Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why am I writing my memoirs? Several months ago, my Grandson, Steven, said: Papa, you should write all the stories that you have been telling us all these years. Some day you will not be around to tell those wonderful stories anymore. If I had a booklet or some kind of way to tell the stories to my children or hopefully, my grand children, I would be a happy man. So as a result, I decided to write this book. Normally, people do not look to write a novel at the age of 78. however; I have decided to give it a try. I am a normal man of 78 years of age, in my retirement years and love life. I adore God, love my family and friends and Honor my Country, America. I guess I should start by letting you know something about me and my family. I am married to my wife, Roseanne, for 53 years and 5 months. Life with Roseanne has been wonderful. We have three children, Graceanne, 51, Steven, 48 and Anthony, 45. Graceanne is married to my son-in-law, Christopher, Steven is married to my daughter-in law, Jennifer and Anthony is married to my daughter-in-law, Theresa. We have 13 grand children and one great grand daughter. The children are Melanie,36, Rachel,34, Steven,26, Nicholas,24, Courtney, 20, Nichole,20, Christopher,17, Melina,13, Samantha,10, Michael,9, Mackenzy,8, Allyson,4, Isabella 1, and Zoe Emma,1. Thank God, they are all in good health and Beautiful and Handsome individuals.

Book excerpt: I Remember Papa The American Dream My beloved papa, Edward Liberati, was left alone to raise five girls and one boy when my mother passed away with uremia, a poisoning of the blood because the kidneys have stopped functioning properly. I am the youngest, and I never knew my mother because I was barely one and a half when she died. My papa, alone through our upbringing, gave us advanced university education, overseas study, and piano, voice, and dancing lessons. We all learned to speak several languages. And on I could go about how he dedicated his whole life to the six of usall of whom, along with him, are in heaven, except yours truly. Sylvia Liberati Rooney-Rosencrans

On the border of the Dark Land and the Light World, there is a great war burning grandly. A handsome boy in silver armor, with a long spear in hands, he was fighting hundreds of the dark knights. On the far side of the battlefield, the Moon Goddess Diana is fighting hundreds of ice dragons and fire dragons. In the brilliant nebula sea, there is a huge Souls Tree blooming gorgeously in the Flower Goddess Fairyland, on this holy Souls Tree, every bud of soul will split in two light pixies and fly to different worlds, fall in different bodies, then growing and shining. Long long time ago, in the Phoenix Nebula, there was a blue white star bursting into pure gorgeous light, “Even if let me live in the brilliant Mermaid Sea all my life, and eat thousands of the dazzling moon jellyfishes every day until choke me to death, I still must be a great musician of the whole fairy world! And in the world of countless evil demons, fire dragons and ice griffins, I will fight them bravely with the Lyre of Apollo, the Sword of Athena, and the Spear of the Valkyries!” Once Ori lived in a tragic world of ice dragons and fire dragons, he wanted to be a great musician when he was very little, but he was tortured by his fire demon father and ice griffin mother in the Dark Sunflower Sea Pixies Castle. At six years old, he got in the Diana College of the Moon Goddess Magic, but always bullied by his iceberg demon wolf classmates and evil siren teachers. When he nearly died in the flying snow pixies, he was just saved by the Light Goddess Florithena, she taking the child’s hand, then flying to a new gorgeous world of shining pixies, beautiful peris and flower fairies. Forget everything you ever knew, just don’t be surprised at everything you will see, everything of everything......

Floral-painted buses forcing their way through the crowd. Street vendors selling savoury fritters from wicker baskets. Others walked like chain-men with buckets and tin cups swinging by their side as they sold water to the thirsty. Everywhere the 'toot-toot' of motor vehicles. There was a vibrancy in this young country, which had achieved independence scarcely five years before.During school holidays, when I was not attending the posh Mama Parsi High School, I might be travelling in a Jeep on one of Papa's many business trips to Afghanistan or India. But for the spoiled favourite daughter of a rich Persian Zoroastrian family, having everything was not enough. I had to throw it all away.

Book excerpt: Beans signify the human kidneys. My professional development through advancing my understanding of Nephrology has allowed me to showcase my ability to serve those who are in need. This becomes my MEANS to achieve success on a job I learned to love and helped me appreciate the things I didn't in the past and things I have shared with people who benefited from my experience. A job that means so much to me and with a significant impact personally for me and my wife. It means bringing joy to our household, to procure the essentials on the table, and to see it as a reason why I have given up the supplementary idea of laboring more hours to live the most comfortable life but rather find solace and peace to see my effort done things I could never imagine. Dialysis Nursing is my calling, GOD has called me indeed, to foster the passion that lives in me. Someday I can say that I have fulfilled my dreams because of the “Beans” that give me the “Means” to sustainability. The life in a world where I matter and have made a difference on the lives of others.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Very little is written about the raw beginnings of the womens movement, and very few know that its genesis in Texas was driven to help the abused victims of alcohol. It was in that light that Beth Bannings Aunt Billie came on the scene in 1896. She was known for paving the way for the future; and even though she was never really crowned with notoriety and fame, she made a huge impact in her world. Billie refused to be put in the traditional box where women were so often expected to live during those days. She was intelligent and forthright. She was afraid of nothing, yet fearful of everything. She was a proponent of womens suffrage and was highly educated, giving her a life that was lonely and obscure. She was courted by prominent legal minds of the twentieth century, and her influence was profound. The love of her life was Stanley, and the heartbreak she carried to her death was his doing. Her life was a tiny speck on the timeline of this world, but a speck that made a difference in Austin politics and Texas womanhood. She was absolutely devoted to family and gave her life to care for her mother, Leah America Cook. What she forfeited for love of family will only be measured in eternity. For what price can be placed on love for family? A Life Worth Remembering is loosely based on Ms. Bannings aunts life, and facts have been woven into a work of historical fiction. May women everywhere catch the fervor that burned within her and challenge the world to change for the better. For more information go to www.fromtheheartofawoman.com.

Book excerpt: Papa Is a Poet: is a picture book about the famous American poet Robert Frost, imagined through the eyes of his daughter Lesley. When Robert Frost was a child, his family thought he would grow up to be a baseball player. Instead, he became a poet. His life on a farm in New Hampshire inspired him to write "poetry that talked," and today he is famous for his vivid descriptions of the rural life he loved so much. There was a time, though, when Frost had to struggle to get his poetry published. Told from the point of view of Lesley, Robert Frost's oldest daughter, this is the story of how a lover of language found his voice.

Book excerpt: In the early morning hours of May 18, 1944 the Russian army, under orders from Stalin, deported the entire Crimean Tatar population from their historical homeland. Given only fifteen minutes to gather their belongings, they were herded into cattle cars bound for Soviet Central Asia. Although the official Soviet record was cleansed of this affair and the name of their ethnic group was erased from all records and official documents, Crimean Tatars did not assimilate with other groups or disappear. This is an ethnographic study of the negotiation of social memory and the role this had in the growth of a national repatriation movement among the Crimean Tatars. It examines the recollections of the Crimean Tatars, the techniques by which they are produced and transmitted and the formation of a remarkably uniform social memory in light of their dispersion throughout Central Asia. Through the lens of social memory, the book covers not only the deportation and life in the diaspora but the process by which the children and grandchildren of the deportees 'returned' and anchored themselves in the Crimean Penininsula, a place they had never visited.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three generations of women struggle with oppression in this prize-winning historical saga from “a natural born storyteller” (Julia Alvarez). When I remember Russia, I ache with longing for the village of my birth, where the beloved grandparents magically produced candy in a handshake and told stories of long ago when God spoke to humans and enchantments filled the world . . . Two Jewish sisters, born in Russia shortly before the Communist Revolution, are forced to flee the pogroms and persecution and travel with their parents to British-occupied Palestine. The girls’ parents befriend a widower with two children and join forces, creating a blended family. When the girls are teenagers, World War II tears the family apart, sending the girls separately to France and America. Their lives unfold in tandem: babies are born, friendships forged, and cherry pies baked—despite the brutal backdrop of the Holocaust. As the family grows into the next generation, one of the daughters, an artist drawn to a bohemian lifestyle, surrounds herself with a multicultural circle of friends the likes of which her ancestors could not have imagined. Subsequently, the artist’s turns her passion to providing aid to Salvadoran refugees fleeing the death squads in their homeland, just as her own grandmother once fled the pogroms of Russia. As she follows her vocation of reversing the damage that torturers inflict on their victims, she must also overcome a past-life trauma that haunts her very core. A winner of the Fabri Literary Prize, Memories from Cherry Harvest spans seventy years and five continents, explores the physics of memory, and shows how the tenacity of good can ultimately withstand and overcome the memory of tragedy. “Like Julia Alvarez’s In the Time of the Butterflies and Doris Lessing’s Martha Quest novels, this story about fighting the injustices of the 20th century will engage readers of politically charged fiction.” —Library Journal

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The niece of Lincoln’s assassin comes to terms with her family’s genius and tragic history. In March 1880 at age eighteen, Edwina is experiencing many new things. For the first time she sees her actor father, Edwin Booth, in King Lear, a play he had considered “too harsh for a young lady.” For the first time she finds herself squarely facing the burden carried by her family name for more than a decade: the assassination of President Lincoln by her uncle John Wilkes Booth. And for the first time she is in love, with Downing Vaux, an artist whose father, like Edwina’s, is famous. Edwina leaves Downing behind when her father insists that she accompany him on a year-long theatrical tour abroad. Downing is loyal, however, and when she returns to New York, they become engaged. But when the assassination of President Garfield thrusts the Booth family back into the limelight, Edwina finds that she must travel abroad again with her father, and Downing’s devotion is tested. Forced to reexamine her life, Edwina faces a difficult choice between duty and the pursuit of happiness.
