Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Panzer Tracts No. 5-4 - Panzerkampwagen Panther II and Panther Ausf.F - We spent hundreds of hours accurately measuring the surviving Panther II chassis and the Schmalturm and over a thousand hours drawing at full-scale to create as-built drawings for the first time - accurate to the same tight tolerances demanded of the original assembly firms. Extensive measurement of the Panther II chassis prove that its design is completely different than the Panther Ausf.F chassis. We have selected the unique approach of using 1/10th scale drawings to illustrate the smallest details, while six-view (including right side and belly) 1/35th scale drawings are still used for the complete Panther. We also created ?flat-plane? drawings of many components to assist modelers in making accurate parts that would be hard to replicate if only drawn at the angle in which they are actually mounted. This book also includes the development history of these rare Panther variants. This 56 page book is heavily illustrated with over 130 scale drawings and 15 clear/rare large-format photos.

Book excerpt: Panzer Tracts No. 3-2 - Panzerkampfwagen III Ausf.E, F, G, und H development and production from 1938 to 1941. 38 years of digging out original records in public and private archives and hundreds of visits to museums were spent in creating this penultimate history of a winner - the Panzerkampfwagen III variants used to win the 1939 to 1941 campaigns. Survivors were accurately measured in detail and drawn at full scale to create as-built drawings for the first time - accurate to the same tight tolerances demanded of the original assembly firms. Thousands of hours went into sorting out the defining features for each Ausfuehrung as well as when significant modifications were introduced. We have selected the unique approach of using 1/10th scale drawings to illustrate the smallest details, while six-view (including right side and belly) 1/35th scale drawings are still used for the complete Pz.Kpfw.III. Over 120 clean/rare photos and drawings illustrate this 84 page book.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Panzerkampfwagen IV has often been referred to as the 'workhorse' of the German Army in World War II. This important weapon went through several upgrades and improvements during its lifetime and is the only German tank to have been produced continuously throughout the entire war. In his previous title, Modelling the Early Panzerkampfwagen IV, Tom Cockle covered the early production Panzer IV. This book will cover the later versions of the tank from those that were initially equipped with the 7.5cm KwK 40 L/43 to later versions which were mounted with the L/48 gun. Step-by-step photographs show how to model this tank across various scales and at various skill levels, making this book ideal for both beginners as well as advanced modellers interested in minuscule detail, scratch built extras and rare tank markings.

Altogether 12 different projects are covered starting with the real Zwischenloesung, Krupp L.S.K., L.Tr.Sfl., 3.7 cm and 7.5 cm Sfl., Pz.Sfl.II, 8.8 cm Flak 18 Sfl., Pz.Sfl.IVa, Pz.Jaeg.I, 4.7 cm Pak(t) auf Pz.Kpfw.35R, and ending with the rare trial Pz.Sfl.Ia and Pz.Sfl.Ic. New as-built drawings - accurate to the same tight tolerances demanded of the original assembly firms - were created for both production series of the 4.7 cm Pak(t) (Sfl) auf Pz.Kpfw.I. This 72 page book is heavily illustrated with 17 scale drawings and 67 clear/rare large-format photos.

Book excerpt: "An encyclopaedic, four-volume work on every aircraft type proposed, designed, or manufactured in Australia, from Lawrence Hargrave's experiments in the 1880's, through to the authors self-imposed cutoff point in the mid-1980's. The four-volume work lists over 540 aircraft types as well as detailed histories of the companies involved in their construction. Coverage is multi-faceted, being technical, operational, historical, industrial, and political. Along with the text is the most comprehensive collection of photographs, technical drawings, and diagrams yet assembled into the one reference work, many of which have never before been seen outside the original source. Exhaustively researched over the past 40 years by the well-known aviation personality Keith Meggs, a man uniquely placed to write on all aspects of Australian aviation from construction through to operational flight. All volumes are superbly indexed and cross-referenced with the main text reinforced by extensive and detailed endnotes. As a result of digging through public and private archives for 38 years, we are able to create this accurate history of the very rare variants from the Pz.Kpfw.II family - the VK 901, VK 903, VK 1301, VK 1303, and VK 1601. Original drawings, documented measurements, and original wartime photographs were used to create four-view drawings of the VK 901 and VK 1601 (printed at 1/35th scale). Over a thousand hours were spent precisely measuring external details of the "Luchs" in order to create as-built drawings of all six views (including right side and belly) with both the VK 1301 and VK 1303 turrets in 1/24th scale. Even the smallest details are clearly discernable in the component drawings at 1/10th scale including the surprise feature of an Orterkompass mounted on the turret roof. This 56 page book is illustrated with over 50 drawings and 41 clean/rare photos.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Much has been written about the use of tanks in battle. Little, however, has appeared about the gunnery systems that are at their core. This book describes and examines the main gun systems of medium and heavy tanks from first use in 1916 in World War I to those fielded in numbers to the end of World War II in 1945, including tanks of the interwar period. Specifically considered are guns of a caliber greater than 35 mm, which have been deployed in numbers greater than 100. The emphasis is on guns mounted in turrets on heavier tracked armored fighting vehicles (greater than 15 tonnes) which were considered tanks. There are, though, exceptions, in that the naval 6 pounder guns in First World War British tanks, as well as the 75 mm guns in French medium tanks of the same period (all turretless) are included. The treatment of gun systems includes sighting and fire control equipment, gun laying equipment, mounts and the array of munitions fired, as well as the actual gun, including its, barrel, cradle, breech, firing mechanism, sights and recoil system. Related to this are issues of gun handling (loading and unloading), ammunition design and rates of fire. Also examined are the maximum impulse and energy generated by firing some of the munitions available that must be absorbed by the gun recoil system.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This first volume, of a three-volume set, covers the history, development and production history of the Tiger tank variants from the idea's conception to the end of Tiger I production. This includes details on the development series known as the D.W., VK 30.01(H), VK 30.01(P), VK 36.01(H), VK 45.01(P) as well as the Tiger I. All of this illustrated with scale drawings by Hilary L. Doyle, combined with drawings, sketches, and photographs depicting external modifications as well as internal views. Over thirty years of intensive research went into finding the original documents needed to create this history of the development, characteristics, and tactical capabilities of the Tiger. An exhaustive search was made for surviving records of the design/assembly firms (including Krupp, Henschel, Porsche, and Wegmann), the Heereswaffenamt, the Generalinspekteur der Panzertruppen, the D656 series of manuals on the Tiger, and the war diaries with their supporting reports from German army units. This is supplemented by the authors' collecting hundreds of photos and climbing over, under, around, and through nearly every surviving Tiger I. AUTHOR:
