Download or read book Development of Panama as a Logistics Hub and the Impact on Latin America written by Daniel Muñoz (M. Eng.) and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Panamanian government is executing an aggressive economic growth initiative to transform the country into a regional logistics hub, like Singapore or Dubai. Two elements of the initiative are expansion of the Panama Canal and development of the Panama Pacifico Project, a large logistics park. The government initiative is analyzed with respect to the logistics hubs in Singapore and Dubai by 1) identifying a structure of critical factors for developing a logistics cluster, 2) using this structure to analyze the feasibility of Panama becoming a major logistics hub, and 3) exploring the impact of a logistics_hub in Panama on the Latin American network of ports. We make recommendations so that Panama can speedily develop its logistics hub, and so that Latin American ports whose existence is threatened by this development can adapt.
Book Synopsis Panama’s Growth Prospects by : Ms.Kimberly Beaton
Download or read book Panama’s Growth Prospects written by Ms.Kimberly Beaton and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2017-07-07 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper estimates medium-term potential growth for a country undergoing significant structural and secular changes. Our forward-looking framework, incorporating three analytical approaches for examining economic prospects, constitutes an important complement to typical backward-looking methods that filter or extrapolate historical data. In particular, the opening of the expanded Panama Canal in 2016 highlights significant structural changes underway in the Panamanian economy. We first analyze growth determinants and find that Panama is well-placed to maintain its business model, with improvements in education and governance important to support growth. Second, the current pipeline of investment projects can help sustain investment-led growth, although at a more moderate pace. Third, further development of the logistics and tourism sectors holds promise to further build on Panama’s comparative advantage.

And saying this of Colombia is a tall order given a tumultuous yesterday of armed conflict and internal mass displacement. Today's struggles are of a different nature, however. President Duque has had to give simultaneous management to the COVID-19 health crisis, the Venezuelan refugee crisis, and an expanding fiscal deficit situation that lost the country its investment-grade rating. Despite their benefits, strengthened trans-Pacific economic relations have also become a cause for concern in Latin America, due to major imbalances of different kinds.
