El término "robot" fue acuñado por el escritor de ciencia ficción checo Karel Čapek en su obra "R.U.R." (Robots Universales Rossum) en 1920. La palabra "robot" se deriva de "robota", que en checo significa "trabajo forzado" o "esclavitud".la palabra "robot" y su concepto tal como lo conocemos hoy en día fueron popularizados en su obra de teatro "R.U.R." (Robots Universales Rossum), que se publicó por primera vez en 1920. La obra de Čapek exploraba temas relacionados con la creación de seres artificiales que realizaban trabajo pesado en lugar de los humanos. La obra "R.U.R." presentaba una fábrica que producía seres artificiales llamados "robots" a partir de material biológico y mecánico. Estos robots eran capaces de llevar a cabo tareas laboriosas y se convirtieron en una fuerza de trabajo esclava. Con el tiempo, los robots en la obra desarrollaron emociones y deseos propios, lo que llevó a un conflicto con los humanos. La obra de Karel Čapek y la introducción del término "robot" tuvieron un impacto duradero en la ciencia ficción y en la cultura popular, y ayudaron a establecer la idea de robots como seres artificiales con la capacidad de realizar tareas humanas o mecánicas. Desde entonces, el término "robot" se ha utilizado ampliamente para describir máquinas automatizadas que pueden llevar a cabo una variedad de tareas, desde tareas industriales hasta aplicaciones en la vida cotidiana.
