This book was released on 2003 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study focuses on elucidation of the reaction behaviors of peroxidase-mediated phenol coupling in the presence of soil/sediment materials. Our goal is a mechanistic understanding of the influences of geosorbent materials on enzymatic coupling reactions in general and the development of methods for predicting such influences. Extensive experimental investigations of coupling reactions were performed under strategically selected conditions in systems containing model geosorbents having different properties and chemical characteristics. The geosorbents tested were found to influence peroxidase-mediated phenol coupling through one or both of two principal mechanisms; i.e., (1) mitigation of enzyme inactivation and/or (2) participation in cross-coupling reactions. Such influences were found to correlate with the chemical characteristics of the sorbent materials and to be simulated well by a modeling approach designed in this paper. The results of the study have important implications for potential engineering implementation and enhancement of enzymatic coupling reactions in soil/subsurface remediation practice.

Download or read book Synthetic and Natural Phenols written by J.H.P. Tyman and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1996-08-21 with total page 721 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The chemistry of phenols tends to be ignored in organic chemical textbooks and to be lost amongst the many classes of functional derivatives. This volume is not intended to provide a textbook approach but rather to give an account of developments in phenol chemistry in the last two decades.Features of this book:• Numerous phenolic systems have been covered in detail, e.g. phenolic propanoids.• The emphasis throughout has been on synthesis, on what can be achieved by the use of phenolic intermediates and in the construction of phenolic end products.• Many chapters enable the reader to refer to the original literature wherever possible.• Various chapters provide a fund of tutorial material and problems for undergraduate studies and further, which will encourage perusal of the literature. Some 2000 references to applied and academic papers are given.Phenols are ubiquitous substances and now it is more widely accepted that there are pros and cons connected with their usage. The pros for compounds are well-known and are illustrated by perennial panaceas such as aspirin, paracetamol, codeine, etc. The cons are less obvious because they are also materials deeply entrenched in our standard of living and in most cases inherent hazards have only recently come to light. The book will be of interest to postgraduate students in academic and industrial work.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Phenolic compounds as a large class of metabolites found in plants have attracted attention since long time ago due to their properties and the hope that they will show beneficial health effects when taken as dietary supplements. This book presents the state of the art of some of the natural sources of phenolic compounds, for example, medicinal plants, grapes or blue maize, as well as the modern methods of extraction, quantification, and identification, and there is a special section discussing the treatment, removal, and degradation of phenols, an important issue in those phenols derived from the pharmaceutical or petrochemical industries.

Book excerpt: Iodine Catalysis in Organic Synthesis The first book of its kind to highlight iodine as a sustainable alternative to conventional transition metal catalysis Iodine Catalysis in Organic Synthesis provides detailed coverage of recent advances in iodine chemistry and catalysis, focusing on the utilization of various iodine-containing compounds as oxidative catalysts. Featuring contributions by an international panel of leading research chemists, this authoritative volume explores the development of environmentally benign organic reactions and summarizes catalytic transformations of molecular iodine and iodine compounds such as hypervalent organoiodine and inorganic iodine salts. Readers are first introduced to the history of iodine chemistry, the conceptual background of homogeneous catalysis, and the benefits of iodine catalysis in comparison with transition metals. Next, chapters organized by reaction type examine enantioselective transformations, catalytic reactions involving iodine, catalyst states, oxidation in iodine and iodine catalyses, and catalytic reactions based on halogen bonding. Practical case studies and real-world examples of different applications in organic synthesis and industry are incorporated throughout the text. An invaluable guide for synthetic chemists in both academic and industrial laboratories, Iodine Catalysis in Organic Synthesis: Provides a thorough overview of typical iodine-catalyzed reactions, catalyst systems, structures, and reactivity Explores promising industrial applications of iodine-based reagents for organic synthesis Highlights the advantages iodine catalysis has over classical metal-catalyzed reactions Discusses sustainable and eco-friendly methods in hypervalent iodine chemistry Edited by two world authorities on the catalytic applications of organoiodine compounds, Iodine Catalysis in Organic Synthesis is required reading for catalytic, organic, and organometallic chemists, medicinal and pharmaceutical chemists, industrial chemists, and academic researchers and advanced students in relevant fields.

Book Synopsis C-H Activation for Asymmetric Synthesis by : Françoise Colobert
Download or read book C-H Activation for Asymmetric Synthesis written by Françoise Colobert and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2019-11-11 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Provides, in one handbook, comprehensive coverage of one of the hottest topics in stereoselective chemistry Written by leading international authors in the field, this book introduces readers to C-H activation in asymmetric synthesis along with all of its facets. It presents stereoselective C-H functionalization with a broad coverage, from outer-sphere to inner-sphere C-H bond activation, and from the control of olefin geometry to the induction of point, planar and axial chirality. Moreover, methods wherein asymmetry is introduced either during the C-H activation or in a different elementary step are discussed. Presented in two parts?asymmetric activation of C(sp3)-H bonds and stereoselective synthesis implying activation of C(sp2)-H bonds?CH-Activation for Asymmetric Synthesis showcases the diversity of stereogenic elements, which can now be constructed by C-H activation methods. Chapters in Part 1 cover: C(sp3)-H bond insertion by metal carbenoids and nitrenoids; stereoselective C-C bond and C-N bond forming reactions through C(sp3)?H bond insertion of metal nitrenoids; enantioselective intra- and intermolecular couplings; and more. Part 2 looks at: C-H activation involved in stereodiscriminant step; planar chirality; diastereoselective formation of alkenes through C(sp2)?H bond activation; amongst other methods. -Covers one of the most rapidly developing fields in organic synthesis and catalysis -Clearly structured in two parts (activation of sp3- and activation of sp2-H bonds) -Edited by two leading experts in C-H activation in asymmetric synthesis CH-Activation for Asymmetric Synthesis will be of high interest to chemists in academia, as well as those in the pharmaceutical and agrochemical industry.
