To all to whom these presents shall come, Greeting. Whereas William Owen, of Fleet-Street, in our City of London, Bookseller, has by his Petition, humbly represented unto Us, That he has with great Care and Labour, and at a considerable Expense, compiled for the Press, A complete and authentic Account of all the Fairs in England and Wales, as they have, since the Alteration of the Stile, been settled to he held; and that particular Mention is made therein of all Commodities which each of the said Fairs is remarkable for furnishing; And that, as the said Work will undoubtedly be useful to the public in general, and more especially to Travellers; and as the Petitioner has been at great Trouble and Expense in preparing and compiling the same; he therefore humbly prays Us to grant to him, and his Assigns, Our Royal Licence and Permission for the sole Printing and Publishing the same, according to the Statute in that Case made and provided; We being willing to give all due Encouragement to a Work of this Nature, which may be of public Use and Benefit, are graciously pleased to condescend to his Request; and We do therefore, by these Presents, so far as may be agreeable to the Statute in that Behalf, grant unto him the said William Owen, his Heirs, Executors, and Assigns, Our Royal Privilege and Licence, for the sole Printing, Publishing, and Vending the said Work; strictly forbidding and prohibiting all Our Subjects, within Our Kingdoms and Dominions, to reprint, abridge, or translate the same, either in the like or any other Volume or Volumes whatsoever; or to import, buy, vend, utter, or to distribute any copies thereof, reprinted beyond the Seas, without the consent and Approbation of, him the said William Owen, his Heirs, Executors, or Assigns, by writing under his or their Hands and Seals first had and obtained, as they and every of them the contrary will answer at their Peril; whereof the Commissioners and other Officers of the Customs, the Master, Wardens, and Company of Stationers four City of London, and all other our Officers and Ministers whom it may concern, are to take Notice that due Obedience be rendered to our Pleasure here signified.
