Book Synopsis Everyman's Prayer Book by : H. Kenneth MacLennan
Download or read book Everyman's Prayer Book written by H. Kenneth MacLennan and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2014-08-08 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The world is replete with conflicts between various governments and various religious factions. Author and retired educator H. Kenneth MacLennan has come to realize that these conflicts will not be resolved until the believers of these religions and governments better understand the true nature of those things in which they believe. Everyman's Prayer Book is a humorous, satirical, and a sometimes serious look at the nature of how democratic governments and their courts using many of the same pillars and elements of the legal definition of witchcraft (crafty science, sorcery, and fortune telling) to procure tax payments from believers as Christianity uses in seeking offerings from believers. In considering the nature of democratic governments and their courts, you will find important truths and insights into human nature. Those insights and truths will be revealed through satirizing, ridiculing, lampooning, skewering, deflating, dissecting, embarrassing, undressing, unmasking, and exposing the illusion that the crafty science of democracy represents the people, and that there is such a thing as real justice in the courts of democratic governments. Without faith in the existence and power of God, although the concept of faith is without foundation and the opposite of reason, believers would not accept the power of religions or democratic governments and their courts.

Download or read book Seven Sacraments for Everyone written by Dale F. Coye and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2014-03-31 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Millions of Christians are abandoning their churches to become spiritual seekers, but now find themselves adrift. Without the church what do we believe in? Where do we look for the Sacred in our lives? The seed of an answer can be found in the Roman Catholic sacraments, but with a shift in focus from rites and rituals to human experience. It’s not baptism, it’s the birth of a child that is holy. It’s not the wedding ceremony, it’s the sublime oneness we feel in the arms of our best-beloved that lifts us into the realm of the Divine. Seven Sacraments for Everyone maps the roads that lead to these out-of-this-world experiences and into the heartland of the Sacred. By acknowledging these moments of Mystery and teaching our children to respect them, we will find the clues to a universal moral code on which to build a healthier, more meaningful world.
Book Synopsis The Leaven of the Saints by : Dawn Marie Beutner
Download or read book The Leaven of the Saints written by Dawn Marie Beutner and published by Ignatius Press. This book was released on 2023-03-20 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The kingdom of heaven is like leaven which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till it was all leavened. —Matthew 13:33 How can we be part of the kingdom of heaven here and now and spread it to others, like leaven causing a lump of dough to rise and expand? Just look at the lives of the saints. Over the past two millennia, the Church has recognized thousands of men and women who have loved and imitated Christ so wholeheartedly that they transformed the world around them—as they were transformed themselves. The saints have come from every background, people, and era. They have been rich and poor, healthy and sick, single and married, members of the clergy and of the laity. The Leaven of the Saints groups them according to the kind of Christian witness they have given the world—as martyrs, Fathers and Doctors of the Church, priests and religious, popes and bishops, national heroes, founders of religious orders, married persons, and more. The vastness of this work reveals an important truth: that each saint is a unique individual with a unique mission to grow in the knowledge and love of Christ and to make him better known and loved in the world.

Book Synopsis Papal Teaching in the Age of Infallibility, 1870 to the Present by : Kevin T. Keating
Download or read book Papal Teaching in the Age of Infallibility, 1870 to the Present written by Kevin T. Keating and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2018-06-29 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kevin Keating examines the major writings of the Roman Pontiffs from Pius IX in the last half of the nineteenth century to the most recent writings of Francis. He explores the shift in papal focus from internal church matters and attacks on modern thought to concern for matters affecting all of humanity—not just spiritually, but socially, politically, and economically as well. Looming over all of these teachings is the specter of the doctrine of infallibility. First defined in 1870 to cover only papal infallibility, it would be expanded in the 1960s to include the exercise of infallibility by the worldwide college of bishops. Keating discusses the most significant themes dealt with by popes during this period—the Bible, religious freedom, church-state relations, social doctrine, human sexuality, ecumenism, and interreligious dialogue. He describes how papal teaching has changed, developed, and even been contradicted by later popes, although they have failed to expressly acknowledge departures from prior teaching. He details how the doctrine of infallibility, far from serving to bolster the credibility of papal teaching, often has served to undermine it.

Book Synopsis Pope Benedict XVI and the Sexual Abuse Crisis by : Gregory Erlandson
Download or read book Pope Benedict XVI and the Sexual Abuse Crisis written by Gregory Erlandson and published by Our Sunday Visitor. This book was released on 2010 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since 1985, the Catholic Church in the United States has been living in the shadow of the clerical sexual abuse crisis. In 2002, revelations in Boston ignited an institutional nightmare. More recently, the scandal erupted in Ireland and spread across Europe. There is now a rush by some, both inside and outside the Church, to place direct blame upon Pope Benedict XVI. There is no escaping the fact that Pope Benedict, as the former head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith and now as pope, has played an historically pivotal and personal role in the Vatican's response to the crisis. Pope Benedict XVI and the Sexual Abuse Crisis is a groundbreaking, critically objective assessment of the criticism facing the pope as well as a review of his real response to the victims, abusers, bishops, media, and the millions of Catholics worldwide who continue to be justifiably horrified by the scandal. The first and foremost objective for this book is the truth - no matter how difficult to face - and letting the pope's record speak for itself. Book jacket.
