Book Synopsis Our Oneness in Christ by : Ian Johnson
Download or read book Our Oneness in Christ written by Ian Johnson and published by PublishAmerica. This book was released on 2006-12-26 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book starts by establishing that all believers in Christ are already, in fact, one with each other in Christ. This leaves us with the challenge, not of creating unity where it does not exist, but of living consistently with the oneness that already exists. The first section explains why living consistently with our oneness is important, including God’s commands and expectations, the benefits of living in oneness and the hazards of living contrary to the truth. Part two explains what oneness is and is not, including the concepts that oneness is a harmony of diverse believers each doing their own part, not unison, unanimity or strict conformity to the same mold. The third section deals with practical barriers to living in oneness—selfishness, misunderstandings, heresy, and incorrect understanding of the origin of the organizational divisions in the universal Church—and suggests how to overcome them.

Book excerpt: Everyone, Christians included, knows what it’s like to feel isolated and alone. We’ve all wondered if anyone really understands us or truly cares about our lives. The good news is that we aren’t alone, and the gospel tells us why: Jesus, the Son of God, came to earth to be forever united with his people—to be one of us. In fact, he has so united himself with us that the Bible says we are literally “in” him. Far from being alone and lost, the Incarnation changes everything for the Christian. Writing with everyday readers in mind, Elyse Fitzpatrick fleshes out the practical implications of our union with Christ and gives us confidence that we are not alone in this approachable and applicable devotional book.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While the church today looks quite different than it did two thousand years ago, Christians share the same faith with the church fathers. Although separated by time and culture, we have much to learn from their lives and teaching. This book is an organized and convenient introduction to how to read the church fathers from AD 100 to 500. Michael Haykin surveys the lives and teachings of seven of the Fathers, looking at their role in such issues as baptism, martyrdom, and the relationship between church and state. Ignatius, Cyprian, Basil of Caesarea, and Ambrose and others were foundational in the growth and purity of early Christianity, and their impact continues to shape the church today. Evangelical readers interested in the historical roots of Christianity will find this to be a helpful introductory volume.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: R. Loren Sandford does not believe we will see revival sweep the Western world--despite the prayers of those longing for God to send it--without certain key elements. The goal of our pursuit in these crucial days, rather than seeking power, must be intimacy with God and oneness with his heart. In addition to biblical examples and practical application, Sandford shows readers how certain "lighthouse churches" are incorporating and cultivating these goals. The church of Jesus Christ, he says, can rise up to have a prophetic impact on cities and nations and become all that our Savior called us to be.

Book Synopsis The Revelatory Name of God by : James Hogsten
Download or read book The Revelatory Name of God written by James Hogsten and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2017-10-02 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Revelatory Name of God examines how God used his name as a form of self-discosure in the Old Testament. Originally, the revelation of God's proper name (YWHH) was bequeathed to the Nation of Israel just prior to their deliverance from Egyptian bondage (Exodus 3:13-15). Scripture clearly demonstrates the Nation of Israel treasured and used the name of God (YHWH). In fact, the name was liturgically placed upon them by the priesthood (Num. 6:22-27); thus, they were a people of the name. As great as the national revelation of God's name was--the Bible foretells of a universal revelation of God's name wherein the Gentiles become partakers of the benefits of the name of God. Yet, unlike the first revelation given through a burning bush--the Bible reveals God would personify His name in a human being prophetically known as The BRANCH. YHWH fulfilled this promise in the person and name of JESUS--the Branch who is both a genuine human and Yahweh manifest in flesh (Isa. 11:1-2, 10; Jer. 23:5-6). Jesus is not simply the name of a human being but is etymologically linked to the memorial name of Exodus 3:15. The early church recognized the memorial name of Exodus 3:15 was personified in the person and name of Jesus--the name encompassing and superseding the Tetragrammaton. I invite you to join me in a powerful study of the Name of God than can potentially change you life....It certainly did mine and I've never regretted it!
