Book excerpt: I am third oldest of 15 siblings. We were a happy middle class family enjoying life in the city of Hinche, Haiti. Father was a Soldier in the Haitian Army and a part-time Cultivator. A few years later, in 1962, Father was promoted to an officer. Taking advantage of the promotion he sent us, the three oldest siblings, to school in the capital of Port-Au-Prince. Through the years Father visited us as often as he could, but his visit in April 1967 changed our lives forever. He was sent back home, then he traveled to the capital to bring us the bad news that he had been discharged from the military without immediate reason. In late May he was arrested with 18 other officers. A Court-Marshall Panel was formed. They had been accused of: Coup-d'etat, mutiny and attempted assassination of the President of the Republic . They were found guilty, and were stripped of their ranks, condemned and sentenced to death through firing squad. Meanwhile, we had to go into hiding from place to place since the dictator s military was hunting my family who was divided and lived in different towns. All sixteen of us had to reunite to take asylum.

Book Synopsis Frantz Fanon, My Brother by : Joby Fanon
Download or read book Frantz Fanon, My Brother written by Joby Fanon and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2014-07-29 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The short, but remarkable, life of Frantz Fanon has attracted several biographers, all of whom have relied on Fanon’s older brother, Joby, for information on Fanon’s early life. Dissatisfied with these portrayals, Joby decided to tell the story of his brother in his own words with a richness of detail not found in any other work. Translated into English by Daniel Nethery, this is an intimate, passionate, and very human account of one of the most influential thinkers of the twentieth century. Frantz Fanon stands as one of the most uncompromising critics of racism and colonialism. His experience growing up as French colonial subject taught him to be fearless in the defense of his ideals. At the age of seventeen he left his home island of Martinique to fight in Europe against Nazi Germany. After the war he studied medicine and wrote his first book, Black Skin, White Masks. He practiced as a psychiatrist in Algeria and put his medical skills and literary talent in the service of the struggle for Algerian independence and African liberation. He died in 1961, one week after the publication of his classic text, The Wretched of the Earth. He was thirty-six years old.

Download or read book Remain in Love written by Chris Frantz and published by St. Martin's Press. This book was released on 2020-07-21 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two iconic bands. An unforgettable life. One of the most dynamic groups of the ‘70s and ‘80s, Talking Heads, founded by drummer Chris Frantz, his girlfriend Tina Weymouth, and lead singer David Byrne, burst onto the music scene, playing at CBGBs, touring Europe with the Ramones, and creating hits like “Psycho Killer” and “Burning Down the House” that captured the post-baby boom generation’s intense, affectless style. In Remain in Love, Frantz writes about the beginnings of Talking Heads—their days as art students in Providence, moving to the sparse Chrystie Street loft Frantz, Weymouth, and Byrne shared where the music that defined an era was written. With never-before-seen photos and immersive vivid detail, Frantz describes life on tour, down to the meals eaten and the clothes worn—and reveals the mechanics of a long and complicated working relationship with a mercurial frontman. At the heart of Remain in Love is Frantz’s love for Weymouth: their once-in-a-lifetime connection as lovers, musicians, and bandmates, and how their creativity surged with the creation of their own band Tom Tom Club, bringing a fresh Afro-Caribbean beat to hits like “Genius of Love.” Studded with memorable places and names from the era—Grace Jones, Andy Warhol, Stephen Sprouse, Lou Reed, Brian Eno, and Debbie Harry among them—Remain in Love is a frank and open memoir of an emblematic life in music and in love.

Book Synopsis Trauma, Bonding & Family Constellations by : Franz Ruppert
Download or read book Trauma, Bonding & Family Constellations written by Franz Ruppert and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Franz Ruppert's book explores the different types of trauma experience, along with the bonding theories of John Bowlby and attachment work of Mary Ainsworth and others, forming a multigenerational picture of the dynamics of trauma. Experiences of trauma can be so painful as to cause a split in the personality. It is impossible for a mother or father to avoid passing something of their own traumatic experiences on to their children through the process of bonding. These are the deeper feelings, perceptions, thoughts and embodied ways of being which form the residue of the trauma. Informed by his clinical experience Franz Ruppert introduces his insights into the origins of psychological distress. He has developed a unique way of working sensitively with Constellations to reveal and resolve the hidden dynamics of past trauma.
Download or read book A Bound Heart written by Laura Frantz and published by Revell. This book was released on 2019-01-01 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Though Magnus MacLeish and Lark MacDougall grew up on the same castle grounds, Magnus is now laird of the great house and the Isle of Kerrera. Lark is but the keeper of his bees and the woman he is hoping will provide a tincture that might help his ailing wife conceive and bear him an heir. But when his wife dies suddenly, Magnus and Lark find themselves caught up in a whirlwind of accusations, expelled from their beloved island, and sold as indentured servants across the Atlantic. Yet even when all hope seems dashed against the rocky coastline of the Virginia colony, it may be that in this New World the two of them could make a new beginning--together. Laura Frantz's prose sparkles with authenticity and deep feeling as she digs into her own family history to share this breathless tale of love, exile, and courage in Colonial America.
Download or read book An Uncommon Woman written by Laura Frantz and published by Revell. This book was released on 2020-01-07 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unflinching and plainspoken, Tessa Swan is not your typical 18th-century woman. Born and bred on the western Virginia frontier along with her five brothers, she is a force to be reckoned with. Quiet and courageous, Clay Tygart is not your typical 18th-century man. Raised by Lenape Indians, he returns a hero from the French and Indian War to the fort that bears his name, bringing with him Tessa's long-lost friend, Keturah, who disappeared from the settlement years earlier. Determined to avoid any romantic entanglements as fort commander, Clay remains aloof whenever he encounters the lovely Tessa. But when circumstances force Clay's hand--and heart--the stage is set for one very private and one very public reckoning. Intense, evocative, and laced with intricate historical details that bring the past to life, An Uncommon Woman will transport you to the picturesque and dangerous western Virginia mountains of 1770.
