Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It’s 3am on a hot September morning in 1949. A dark sedan pulls to the rear of a home known as an unwed mothers’ birthing clinic in Jasper, Tennessee. The small, quiet package is slipped past the screen door and slipped away in the dead of night never to be seen again. It is a scenario replayed over and over in the 1940’s by the infamous Tennessee Children’s Home Society and Ms. Georgia Tann, its unholy matron. Stolen after birth, my mother was told I was dead. I was sold for $5,000.00 to my adoptive parents in Southern California. Children ripped off the streets and playgrounds, or simply removed from their home under color of authority, the Tennessee Children’s Home Society stretched their tentacles throughout Tennessee as the Black Market Baby scam grew to unimaginable proportions. Doctors, nurses, lawyers, judges, social workers, welfare workers, and others joined on Tann’s payroll. Never daring to ask the question as to where all the children came from. Over 5,000 children were illegally placed for adoption during Georgia Tann’s reign. My agency-assigned number was 7,702. This is the story of James Arnold Bowman, my birth name given by my mother Flossie, and my life as an adoptee. After being told I was adopted at age 7, it became a life of questions unanswered until I was 60 years old. My adoptive parents elected to keep the details of my adoption a secret, never admitting they knew who I was, and the names of my parents. An accidental discovery in 2008 would reveal the secrets kept for so long, and begin my search for my birth family. Search for my true families would take over 5 years of genealogical studies, correspondence, and ending with DNA testing to finally determine my true origin. The Reader will be the investigator, following the trail of evidence presented in the suspect’s own words contained in personal and business letters, and state forms filed in California and Tennessee, from ill-documented birth in May 1949 through sanction of the California adoption in 1953. You will also receive an insight as to what it is like to be an adopted child and labeled as not being “blood relation”. It’s a journey you don’t want to miss.

Book excerpt: In 1970 a scraggly, antiheroic young man from North Carolina by way of Massachusetts began presenting a comforting new sound, a kind never heard before. Within a year, when young ears sought a new sound, there was "Fire and Rain" and "You've Got a Friend," and a new Southern California-fed branch of pop music. Taylor was its reluctant leader. Remarkably, Taylor has survived: his 2015 release, Before This World, edged out Taylor Swift and went to #1 on the charts. Today he is in better physical and probably mental condition than during the whirlwind when he influenced music so heavily, the decade when magazines and newspapers printed feverish stories about his gawky hunkiness, his love affair with Joni Mitchell, his glittery marriage to Carly Simon, his endlessly carried-out heroin habit, and sometimes even his music. Despite it all, Taylor has become the nearest thing to rock royalty in America. Based on fresh interviews with musicians, producers, record company people, and music journalists, as well as previously published interviews, reviews, and profiles, Sweet Dreams and Flying Machines is the definitive biography of an elusive superstar.

Valente. A gruesome curse. A city in upheaval. A monster with unquenchable appetites. Marlinchen and her two sisters live with their wizard father in a city shifting from magic to industry. As Oblya’s last true witches, she and her sisters are little more than a tourist trap as they treat their clients with archaic remedies and beguile them with nostalgic charm. Marlinchen spends her days divining secrets in exchange for rubles and trying to placate her tyrannical, xenophobic father, who keeps his daughters sequestered from the outside world. But at night, Marlinchen and her sisters sneak out to enjoy the city’s amenities and revel in its thrills, particularly the recently established ballet theater, where Marlinchen meets a dancer who quickly captures her heart. As Marlinchen’s late-night trysts grow more fervent and frequent, so does the threat of her father’s rage and magic. And while Oblya flourishes with culture and bustles with enterprise, a monster lurks in its midst, borne of intolerance and resentment and suffused with old-world power. Caught between history and progress and blood and desire, Marlinchen must draw upon her own magic to keep her city safe and find her place within it.

Book excerpt: This story radiates hope. It inspires us to encounter God in our darkest hour. When the Holy Spirit gave the Edmonds their ‘Rainbow Promise,’ they were high up on the eleventh floor of a hospital tower with their critically ill baby, James. In faith, they embraced it fully. However, they had no idea that God would unravel His colorful supernatural sign, not only across the sky, but across generational timelines and even realms where angels moved. Ultimately, this radiant promise would lead them to heaven’s gate. Lara and Andrew Edmonds have had the privilege of sharing their journey with a number of churches, schools, and ladies’ groups over the years, and it has touched the hearts of many people... “Your testimony about your journey with little Baby James said what a hundred sermons could not say. I know that there wasn’t a dry eye in the church. From all of us, who sat in your presence with weeping hearts that night, I thank you for your courage and for the wonderful witness to the love of God, as revealed in His ‘rainbow’ fingerprints.” (Rev Ian Mc Guigan – All Saints United Church, Pietermaritzburg, 2004). Lessons on letting go.

There wasn't much positive guidance shown from Coretha's family at all. She grew up basically making decisions for herself and fending for herself. She became pregnant at an early age by a man who was twice her age. She heard nothing but negative comments from her family members, saying that she was going to be a teen dropout from high school, who lives on welfare assistance. She was persistent and determined to not need her family for anything when it came to raising her kids. She also went through sexual abuse and physical abuse from members of her family. She blamed herself in many ways, that there could have been something she could have done to stop the abuse from happening. Instead of being protected by her family members, she heard gossiping, and her so-called family tried to keep her silent. Even though she grew up in church as a child, she began to feel like God had betrayed her. She felt lost in the world and not protected. She became promiscuous as an adolescent. She enjoyed partying, sex, and dating hustler men. Despite her lifestyle, there wasn't anything she wouldn't do for her kids. At times, she held down two jobs at a time, just to make sure that her kids were straight. For years, Coretha thought that she wouldn't find that special someone to love her for her, and she did. Black was her everything. He treated her like a queen and gave her security and unconditional love. But that had soon come to an end when Black was killed. The pain she felt was unbearable. She was lost and became deeply depressed. "God, why did you have to take him away from me so soon? I will never be the same."

Book excerpt: When all seems lost, where can you find hope? Katherine and Jay Wolf married right after college and sought adventure far from home in Los Angeles, CA. As they pursued their dreams--she as a model and he as a lawyer--they planted their lives in the city and their church community. Their son, James, came along unexpectedly in the fall of 2007, and just six months later, everything changed in a moment for this young family. On April 21, 2008, as James slept in the other room, Katherine collapsed, suffering a massive brain stem stroke without warning. Miraculously, Jay came home in time and called for help. Katherine was immediately rushed into brain surgery, though her chance of survival was slim. As the sun rose the next morning, the surgeon proclaimed that Katherine had survived the removal of part of her brain, though her future recovery was uncertain. Yet in that moment, there was a spark of hope. Through forty days on life support in the ICU and nearly two years in full-time brain rehab, that small spark of hope was fanned into flame. Hope Heals documents Katherine and Jay's journey as they struggled to regain Katherine's quality of life and as she relearned to talk, eat, and walk. As Katherine returned home with a severely disabled body but a completely renewed purpose, she and Jay committed to celebrating this gift of a second chance by embracing life fully, even though that life looked very different than they could have ever imagined. As you uncover Katherine and Jay's remarkable story, you'll be encouraged to: Find lasting hope in the midst of struggle Embrace the unexpected Welcome God's miracles into your everyday life In the midst of continuing hardships, both in body and mind, Katherine and Jay found what we all long to find: a hope that heals the most broken place--our souls. Let Hope Heals be your guide along the way. Praise for Hope Heals: "As I read this book, tears streamed from my eyes even as joy flooded my heart. Jay and Katherine are a raw yet refreshing testimony to the unshakable trustworthiness of God amidst the unimaginable trials of life. This book reminds all of us where hope can be found in a world where none of us know what the next day holds." --David Platt, author of the New York Times bestseller Radical and president of the International Mission Board "Hope Heals is a beautiful, true story that illustrates the love and protection God has for us even in the darkest times of our lives. Katherine and Jay's dedication to each other and the Lord through their most devastating season is inspiring. This book will help your heart believe that He sees, He knows, He cares, and He is still working miracles today!" --Lysa TerKeurst, New York Times bestselling author and president of Proverbs 31 Ministries
