Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: U.S. inflation surged in 2021-22 and has since declined, driven largely by a sharp drop in goods inflation, though services inflation remains elevated. This paper zooms into services inflation, using proprietary microdata on wages to examine its relationship with service sector wage growth at the Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) level. We estimate the wage-price pass-through with a local projection instrumental variable model that exploits variation in labor market tightness across MSAs. Our findings reveal a positive and significant relationship between wages and price growth, with a lag. This suggests that the effects of tight labor markets are persistent and may influence the pace of progression toward the inflation target.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, food law has taken on an increasingly prominent role in political discourse, with calls for a more sustainable food system challenging the legal status quo. A thorough legal perspective is thus indispensable for grasping the complexities of the EU food system and political quests for change. In the first monograph of its kind, Hanna Schebesta and Kai Purnhagen offer an authoritative and comprehensive overview of EU food legislation. Drawing on the authors' experience researching and teaching in the field, EU Food Law explores how political paradigms have shaped the development of laws in a variety of domains, including food technology, food safety, food information, food quality, nutrition, and sustainability. The book begins with insightful analyses of the historical foundations of EU food law and two existing umbrella frameworks: the General Food Law Regulation and the Official Controls Regulation. The book then presents an in-depth discussion of the food law acquis before contextualising EU law against international food law. Schebesta and Purnhagen have created the definitive resource on EU food law, offering a balanced treatment of the subject across eighteen carefully structured chapters. This volume is essential reading for students, academics, and practitioners alike.

This book was released on 2024-02-27 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the patient experience as a leadership strategy. It explores the relationships between coordinated care, expert leadership, provider-patient communications, and the patient experience. When clinical and nonclinical staff collaborate effectively, healthcare teams can improve patient outcomes, prevent medical errors, improve efficiency, and increase patient satisfaction. Surprisingly, however, healthcare leaders tend to prioritize specific metrics to improve hospital performance and patient satisfaction even though patient experience and provider-patient communications are intertwined. Determining the most effective strategy for achieving higher levels of service quality and patient satisfaction can prove elusive for providers. Consider the evidence: a survey in 2012 of more than 17,000 healthcare leaders in North America, for example, found that leaders’ perceptions did not always match the data, and many hospital leaders overestimated the performance of their hospitals. Over 75% of the hospital leaders reported "quality of care" was something their hospital did well, while their patients, on average, rated them lower on perceived service quality. Ten years later, in 2022, only a few providers integrated best practices to achieve high patient satisfaction which severely impacted CMS Hospital Star Rating. This has significant effects on profit margins since patients consider the star rating differentials in their choices of hospitals and are willing to pay upward of 17% extra for treatments in 5-star hospitals, a revenue generating source of income at times when hospitals have seen falling revenues (down 4.8%) and rising labor (up 37%) from pre-COVID-19 pandemic levels. To reduce the gap between perception and reality, hospital leaders can consider the link between communication goals (e.g., responsiveness of hospital staff, pain management, communication about medicines) and outcomes (e.g., increased adherence and compliance, readmission, healthcare delivery costs, hospital overall ratings) as well as improve the patient experience. When intentions and outcomes are aligned, they create a powerful medium by which healthcare leaders can evaluate the gaps that exist between patient care measures and best practices and mitigate organizational or technological factors relevant to improving the patient experience. When the alignment is optimal, care teams develop a better sense of shared purpose, become more committed and accountable, and work together to improve the patient experience. When accomplished, patients participate more fully and actively in the exchange and are discharged with an enhanced commitment to carry out care management requirements. Key topics in this practical guide include provider-patient communications; demonstrating the value of patient-focused care; how physician and nurse executives use synergy as a strategy; engaging board members in promoting quality and safety goals and in developing hospital community partnerships; building bridges between physicians, administrators, trustees, and hospital staff; and developing a leadership pipeline.

This book was released on 2022-02-17 with total page 51 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Supply constraints hurt the economic recovery and boosted inflation in 2021. We find that in the euro area, manufacturing output and GDP would have been about 6 and 2 percent higher, respectively, and half of the rise in manufacturing producer price inflation would not have occurred in the absence of supply bottlenecks. Globally, shutdowns can explain up to 40 percent of the supply shocks. Sectors that are more reliant on differentiated inputs—such as autos—are harder hit. Late last year industry experts expected supply shortages for autos to largely dissipate by mid-2022 and broader bottlenecks by end-2022, but given the Omicron wave, disruptions will last for longer, possibly into 2023. With supply constraints adding to price pressures, the challenge for policymakers is to support recovery without allowing high inflation to become entrenched.

Following two years of impressive performance, growth, as measured by real GNI*, is projected to moderate to a still solid pace at 21⁄2 percent in 2023–24. Inflation is expected to further ease, reaching 2 percent toward late 2025. The fiscal position has strengthened considerably on the back of strong tax revenues, but the headline numbers mask some underlying vulnerabilities. The large and complex financial system has remained resilient so far and will continue to be tested by tighter financial conditions. The positive economic outlook is clouded by considerable external risks.
