Book Synopsis Convective Heat Transfer by : I. Pop
Download or read book Convective Heat Transfer written by I. Pop and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2001-02-23 with total page 673 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interest in studying the phenomena of convective heat and mass transfer between an ambient fluid and a body which is immersed in it stems both from fundamental considerations, such as the development of better insights into the nature of the underlying physical processes which take place, and from practical considerations, such as the fact that these idealised configurations serve as a launching pad for modelling the analogous transfer processes in more realistic physical systems. Such idealised geometries also provide a test ground for checking the validity of theoretical analyses. Consequently, an immense research effort has been expended in exploring and understanding the convective heat and mass transfer processes between a fluid and submerged objects of various shapes. Among several geometries which have received considerable attention are plates, circular and elliptical cylinders, and spheres, although much information is also available for some other bodies, such as corrugated surfaces or bodies of relatively complicated shapes. The book is a unified progress report which captures the spirit of the work in progress in boundary-layer heat transfer research and also identifies potential difficulties and areas for further study. In addition, this work provides new material on convective heat and mass transfer, as well as a fresh look at basic methods in heat transfer. Extensive references are included in order to stimulate further studies of the problems considered. A state-of-the-art picture of boundary-layer heat transfer today is presented by listing and commenting also upon the most recent successful efforts and identifying the needs for further research.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fluid and flow problems in porous media have attracted the attention of industrialists, engineers and scientists from varying disciplines, such as chemical, environmental, and mechanical engineering, geothermal physics and food science. There has been a increasing interest in heat and fluid flows through porous media, making this book a timely and appropriate resource. Each chapter is systematically detailed to be easily grasped by a research worker with basic knowledge of fluid mechanics, heat transfer and computational and experimental methods. At the same time, the readers will be informed of the most recent research literature in the field, giving it dual usage as both a post-grad text book and professional reference.Written by the recent directors of the NATO Advanced Study Institute session on 'Emerging Technologies and Techniques in Porous Media' (June 2003), this book is a timely and essential reference for scientists and engineers within a variety of fields.

Download or read book Similarity Solutions for the Boundary Layer Flow and Heat Transfer of Viscous Fluids, Nanofluids, Porous Media, and Micropolar Fluids written by John H. Merkin and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2021-09-09 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Similarity Solutions for the Boundary Layer Flow and Heat Transfer of Viscous Fluids, Nanofluids, Porous Media, and Micropolar Fluids presents new similarity solutions for fluid mechanics problems, including heat transfer of viscous fluids, boundary layer flow, flow in porous media, and nanofluids due to continuous moving surfaces. After discussing several examples of these problems, similarity solutions are derived and solved using the latest proven methods, including bvp4c from MATLAB, the Keller-box method, singularity methods, and more. Numerical solutions and asymptotic results for limiting cases are also discussed in detail to investigate how flow develops at the leading edge and its end behavior. Detailed discussions of mathematical models for boundary layer flow and heat transfer of micro-polar fluid and hybrid nanofluid will help readers from a range of disciplinary backgrounds in their research. Relevant background theory will also be provided, thus helping readers solidify their computational work with a better understanding of physical phenomena. Provides mathematical models that address important research themes, such as boundary layer flow and heat transfer of micro-polar fluid and hybrid nanofluid Gives detailed numerical explanations of all solution procedures, including bvp4c from MATLAB, the Keller-box method, and singularity methods Includes examples of computer code that will save readers time in their own work

Book Synopsis Physical and Computational Aspects of Convective Heat Transfer by : T. Cebeci

This book was released on 2013-04-18 with total page 497 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is concerned with the transport of thermal energy in flows of practical significance. The temperature distributions which result from convective heat transfer, in contrast to those associated with radiation heat transfer and conduction in solids, are related to velocity characteristics and we have included sufficient information of momentum transfer to make the book self-contained. This is readily achieved because of the close relation ship between the equations which represent conservation of momentum and energy: it is very desirable since convective heat transfer involves flows with large temperature differences, where the equations are coupled through an equation of state, as well as flows with small temperature differences where the energy equation is dependent on the momentum equation but the momentum equation is assumed independent of the energy equation. The equations which represent the conservation of scalar properties, including thermal energy, species concentration and particle number density can be identical in form and solutions obtained in terms of one dependent variable can represent those of another. Thus, although the discussion and arguments of this book are expressed in terms of heat transfer, they are relevant to problems of mass and particle transport. Care is required, however, in making use of these analogies since, for example, identical boundary conditions are not usually achieved in practice and mass transfer can involve more than one dependent variable.

Book Synopsis Heat Transfer to Non-Newtonian Fluids by : Aroon Shenoy
Download or read book Heat Transfer to Non-Newtonian Fluids written by Aroon Shenoy and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2018-03-12 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has been written with the idea of providing the fundamentals for those who are interested in the field of heat transfer to non-Newtonian fluids. It is well recognized that non-Newtonian fluids are encountered in a number of transport processes and estimation of the heat transfer characteristics in the presence of these fluids requires analysis of equations that are far more complex than those encountered for Newtonian fluids. A deliberate effort has been made to demonstrate the methods of simplification of the complex equations and to put forth analytical expressions for the various heat transfer situations in as vivid a manner as possible. The book covers a broad range of topics from forced, natural and mixed convection without and with porous media. Laminar as well as turbulent flow heat transfer to non-Newtonian fluids have been treated and the criterion for transition from laminar to turbulent flow for natural convection has been established. The heat transfer characteristics of non-Newtonian fluids from inelastic power-law fluids to viscoelastic second-order fluids and mildly elastic drag reducing fluids are covered. This book can serve the needs of undergraduates, graduates and industry personnel from the fields of chemical engineering, material science and engineering, mechanical engineering and polymer engineering.
