Book Synopsis Organometallic Chemistry by : E W Abel
Download or read book Organometallic Chemistry written by E W Abel and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2007-10-31 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organometallic chemistry is an interdisciplinary science which continues to grow at a rapid pace. Although there is continued interest in synthetic and structural studies the last decade has seen a growing interest in the potential of organometallic chemistry to provide answers to problems in catalysis synthetic organic chemistry and also in the development of new materials. This Specialist Periodical Report aims to reflect these current interests reviewing progress in theoretical organometallic chemistry, main group chemistry, the lanthanides and all aspects of transition metal chemistry. Specialist Periodical Reports provide systematic and detailed review coverage of progress in the major areas of chemical research. Written by experts in their specialist fields the series creates a unique service for the active research chemist, supplying regular critical in-depth accounts of progress in particular areas of chemistry. For over 80 years the Royal Society of Chemistry and its predecessor, the Chemical Society, have been publishing reports charting developments in chemistry, which originally took the form of Annual Reports. However, by 1967 the whole spectrum of chemistry could no longer be contained within one volume and the series Specialist Periodical Reports was born. The Annual Reports themselves still existed but were divided into two, and subsequently three, volumes covering Inorganic, Organic and Physical Chemistry. For more general coverage of the highlights in chemistry they remain a 'must'. Since that time the SPR series has altered according to the fluctuating degree of activity in various fields of chemistry. Some titles have remained unchanged, while others have altered their emphasis along with their titles; some have been combined under a new name whereas others have had to be discontinued. The current list of Specialist Periodical Reports can be seen on the inside flap of this volume.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organotransition Metal Chemistry: A Mechanistic Approach describes a mechanistic approach to the study of the chemistry of organotransition metals. Organotransition metals are discussed in relation to their reactions with specific functional groups or types of compounds rather than by metals. Topics covered include the formation of hydrogen and carbon bonds to transition metals; reactions of transition metal d- and p-bonded derivatives; and addition and elimination reactions of olefinic compounds. This book is comprised of 10 chapters and begins with a historical overview of organotransition metal chemistry, together with the unique chemistry of transition metals and mechanisms of ligand replacements. The following chapters discuss the methods of preparation of hydrido complexes and carbon-transition metal bonds; homogeneous hydrogenation reactions; isomerization, dimerization, oligomerization, and polymerization of olefins; and reactions of dienes, trienes, and tetraenes with transition metal compounds. Transition metal reactions with acetylenes and carbon monoxide as well as organic carbonyl compounds are also examined. This monograph should be of value to organic chemists as well as students and researchers of organic chemistry.

Book Synopsis Organometallics of the f-Elements by : Marks
Download or read book Organometallics of the f-Elements written by Marks and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 525 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While the organometallic chemistry of the d-block transition elements has been a flourishing field for the past 25 years, it has only been in the last several years that dramatic activity and progJ'ess has occurred in the area of lanthanide and actinide organometallic chemistry. The f. -element organometallic research effort has been truly multinational and multidisciplinary. In a large number of countries, sCientists have become increasingly interested in the synthesis, reactivity, spectroscopy, and the molecular and electronic structures of f-element organometallic compounds. The backgrounds of these scientists range from organic, inorganic, nuclear, and catalytic chemistry to chemical and nuclear physics. The motivations for the study of f-element organometallics have been equally varied. In the area of basic research, there has been a growing realization that the lanthanides and actinides represent two unique and, to a great extent, neglected families of elements in which many fascinating aspects of chemistry and bonding remain to be explored. On a more practical level, an increasing number of these elements play important roles in nuclear energy production and in industrial catalytic processes. It has become apparent that efficiency and safety in both areas could greatly benefit from increased knowledge. In the past there has been no suitable international forum available for bringing together researchers in the diverse areas of f-element organometallic science mentioned above.

Book Synopsis Organotitanium Reagents in Organic Synthesis by : Manfred T. Reetz
Download or read book Organotitanium Reagents in Organic Synthesis written by Manfred T. Reetz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Titanium has been used to perform many kinds of reactions in organic and inorganic chemistry. The present book is concerned primarily with a new development in titanium chemistry which is useful in organic synthesis. In 1979/80 it was discovered that the titanation of classical carbanions using C1TiX leads to species with reduced basicity and reactivity. This increases 3 chemo-, regio-and stereo selectivity in reactions with organic compounds such as aldehydes, ketones and alkyl halides. Many new examples have been reported in recent times. Since the nature of the ligand X at titanium can be widely varied, the electronic and steric nature of the reagents is easily controlled. This helps in predicting the stereochemical outcome of many of the C-C bond forming reactions, but the trial and error method is still necessary in other cases. One of the ultimate objectives of chemistry is to understand correlations between structure and reactivity. Although this goal has not been reached in the area of organotitanium chemistry, appreciable progress has been made. A great deal of physical and computational data of organotitanium compounds described in the current and older literature (e. g. , Ziegler-Natta type catalysts) has been reported by polymer, inorganic and theoretical chemists. It is summarized in Chapter 2 of this book, because some aspects are useful in understanding reactivity and selectivity of organo titanium compounds in organic synthesis as described in the chapters which follow.
