Book Synopsis Encyclopedia of Sustainability [3 volumes] by : Robin Morris Collin
Download or read book Encyclopedia of Sustainability [3 volumes] written by Robin Morris Collin and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2009-12-09 with total page 891 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This three-volume encyclopedia explores the concept of sustainability in the contexts of the environment, economics, and justice. This expansive encyclopedia breaks new ground, giving definition and focus to an urgent and much-talked-about topic that is extraordinarily wide ranging and all too often misunderstood. As the first major reference work in its field, the three comprehensive volumes span the entire scope of sustainability from ecological concepts to financial concerns to public policy and community action, giving readers a solid foundation from which to think critically about efforts to make a more sustainable world. The Encyclopedia of Sustainability comprises three volumes, each dedicated to one of three equally important contexts in which the term is used: environment and ecology, business and economics, and equity and fairness. Each volume provides authoritative but accessible coverage of basic concepts and terms, as well as policy initiatives, controversies, and future trends. Volumes also include biographical sketches of important contributors to sustainability efforts from the scientific, economic, public policy, and activist realms, plus extensive listings of print and online resources for further exploration.

Book Synopsis Environmental Water Markets and Regulation by : Katherine Owens
Download or read book Environmental Water Markets and Regulation written by Katherine Owens and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2016-11-18 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: River systems around the world are degraded and are being used unsustainably. Meeting this challenge requires the development of flexible regimes that have the potential to meet essential consumptive needs while restoring environmental flows. This book focuses on how water trading frameworks can be repurposed for environmental water recovery and aims to conceptualise the most appropriate role for law in supporting recovery through these frameworks. The author presents a comprehensive study of the legal frameworks in four jurisdictions: the States of Oregon and Colorado in the western United States; the province of Alberta in Canada; and the Murray-Darling Basin in Australia/Basin State of New South Wales. A close comparative analysis of these four jurisdictions reveals a variety of distinctive regulatory arrangements and collaborations between public and private actors. In all cases, the law has been deployed to steer and coordinate these water governance activities. The book argues that each regime is based on a particular regulatory strategy, with different conceptions of the appropriate roles for, and relationships between, various actors and institutions. Legal frameworks do not have the capacity to rationalise and provide an overarching and absolute solution to the complex environmental and governance issues that arise in the context of environmental water transactions. Rather, the role of law in this context needs to be reconceptualised within the paradigm of regulatory capitalism as establishing and maintaining the limits within which regulatory participants can operate, innovate and collaborate.

Book Synopsis Beyond Consensus by : Richard D. Margerum
Download or read book Beyond Consensus written by Richard D. Margerum and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2011-08-19 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An examination of how to move from consensus to implementation using collaborative approaches to natural resource management, urban planning, and environmental policy. Collaborative approaches are increasingly common across a range of governance and policy areas. Single-issue, single-organization solutions often prove ineffective for complex, contentious, and diffuse problems. Collaborative efforts allow cross-jurisdictional governance and policy, involving groups that may operate on different decision-making levels. In Beyond Consensus, Richard Margerum examines the full range of collaborative enterprises in natural resource management, urban planning, and environmental policy. He explains the pros and cons of collaborative approaches, develops methods to test their effectiveness, and identifies ways to improve their implementation and results. Drawing on extensive case studies of collaborations in the United States and Australia, Margerum shows that collaboration is not just about developing a strategy but also about creating and sustaining arrangements that can support collaborative implementation. Margerum outlines a typology of collaborative efforts and a typology of networks to support implementation. He uses these typologies to explain the factors that are likely to make collaborations successful and examines the implications for participants. The rich case studies in Beyond Consensus—which range from watershed management to transportation planning, and include both successes and failures—offer lessons in collaboration that make the book ideal for classroom use. It is also designed to help practitioners evaluate and improve collaborative efforts at any phase. The book's theoretical framework provides scholars with a means to assess the effectiveness of collaborations and explain their ability to achieve results.

Download or read book Who Made American Schools Marxist Training Centers? written by Diana L. Anderson and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2022-10-27 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nine Philosopher kings were commissioned to under gird the articles of Marxist faith while expunging dogma and religious doctrine. Their seeds of a pre-ordained organic philosophy were planted to upbring young sprouts to destroy the America republic and rebuild from that rubble the next Marxist country. The unrelenting pressures to indoctrinate children with the Marxist family of totalitarian ideologies that promises to ‘free the child’ comes to communities under various guises. The allure of promises made in the name of fairness, equity, tolerance and more recent of social justice has drawn a large percentage of millennials to socialism. Behind the race baited mantras, metro regional government is working for the eventual transformation of schools as learning centers staffed with soviet councils to transform neighborhoods into self-sustaining eco-villages. Children will be socialized as activists for their community to install Fascist green agendas, paired with Marxist social justice.
