Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: YOUR LIFE CAN BE EXTRAORDINARY!This book was not written for those who think they are God's best. It was written for those who feel unqualified to be called by God for a higher purpose. Jesus is walking the highways and seeking to redeem those who are lost, deep in sin and rejected of men. He wants to give these people purpose and use them in an extraordinary way. It does not matter what their history is, but whether they are hungry for God. Many struggle with personal sins and failure and feel unfit for God's use. They often look at the heroes of the Bible as super saints, but many of them weren't so super in reality. God called many of these people when they were deep in sin, blinded by rage or rejected of men. There was nothing really great about them, but their God was great. They were no different from you or I. They were ordinary men and women used by an EXTRAORDINARY GOD!This book looks at the lives of some of the men and women used by God in the Bible. I chose to focus on the primary godly attribute of each Biblical hero and then examine the sin or weakness they struggled with most. These saints or patriarchs are portrayed in a realistic manner in this book. God never intended for us to idolize these men and women. Instead He wanted us to see His great grace in action through mankind. At the end of this book I challenge the reader to pick up the mantles of these Biblical heroes and those used by God throughout Church history. Any Christian can be used by God in an extraordinary way. God is looking for those like Elisha who said, "Where is the God of Elijah?" Will you pick up the mantles that have been forgotten? Will you be the next David? The next Paul? Read this book and awaken God's call on your life today!

Book excerpt: Ordinary People Exhibiting Extraordinary Greatness is a heartfelt exhortation for all people to accept Jesus Christ and use their God-given gifts, talents, and abilities in conjunction with their spiritual character to edify mankind and glorify God. The book begins by asking, “Who are the ordinary people?” Next, it explains that gifts, talents, and abilities from God make ordinary people extraordinary. Followed by discussions on true greatness in the eyes of God, spiritual character, natural fruit and the correlation between these concepts are discussed. This is followed by biblical examples of Rahab, Ananias, and Mordecai, who exhibited extraordinary greatness, including exhortations about spiritual fruit, the true worship of God-not idols, and the glory of God. Next, is a detailed analysis describing David’s conflict with Goliath and a simple blueprint for exhibiting extraordinary greatness, including a synopsis of repentance, salvation, righteousness, the covenant, forgiveness, and the new creation. Completed by a discussion on purpose, vision, goals, standard, and mission. This exhortation should encourage and edify anyone with a desire to please God.

Generous hospitality is a significant way in which God works through our lives to bring life to others, yet many of us feel ill-equipped and overwhelmed at the prospect, especially if we don’t have big houses and we are not wonderful cooks! Carolyn Lacey encourages us to focus on the goal of hospitality, which is to reflect God’s welcoming heart, and shows us how we can all do that, regardless of our bank balance or living situation. She explores seven ways in which we can reflect God’s character in the way we welcome others into our homes and into our lives, and so point people ultimately to Christ. This practical and realistic book explores how to make generous hospitality part of everyday life without becoming exhausted and overburdened.

Book excerpt: Christians know church is important, but sometimes it doesn't seem worth it. An eclectic assortment of people with differing personalities, political views, and parenting styles can make for awkward interactions and difficult connections. What’s the point of putting in the tough work to build relationships? But the Bible says God’s people ought to be bound together. It uses words like beloved, brothers and sisters, saints, and fellow laborers to describe their mutual relationship in the church. In this book, Megan Hill answers a common question of churchgoers: What’s so great about the church? With rich theology, practical direction, and study questions for group use, Hill encourages and equips both first-time visitors and regular members to delight in being a part of the local church—no matter how messy and ordinary it seems today. It is only when God’s people begin to see one another as the Lord sees them that they will truly find a place to belong.

There are many people in the Bible who were helpers of the significant ones like David, Moses, Peter, and Paul. For example, Abigail, one of David's wives, saved her family because she was thoughtful and hardworking. Uriah, the husband of Bathsheba, lost his life because of his loyalty to the army and his King. People from other nations played an important part in Jewish history because they trusted God and made their home with the Jews. What about New Testament people like Apollos, Barnabas, Cornelius, and some of the lesser known disciples? This book is about many of those people who met God and made a decision for or against Him.

The life of deceit, selfishness, and pain that the author engaged in is now in the rearview mirror. When he reads about the people who will not inherit the kingdom of God, he can see the man he used to be walking toward eternal destruction. While Adams was close to certain death many times, God kept him here so he could become a soldier for His cause. Ever since Adams was saved, he has sought to win souls for the Lord. In this testimony, he asks powerful questions such as: • How can we work on a daily basis for God’s glory? • Where can we find opportunities to be part of God’s work? • What can we do to be sensitive to the Holy Spirit? While Adams is just an ordinary man, his journey of slowly moving toward Christ until being born again holds valuable lessons for everyone. Discover how you, too, can be redeemed and live in God’s love and grace.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bible is full of heroes people doing God's work and heeding His call. At one time, however, these prophets, disciples, and pivotal personalities were ordinary people just like us. In Ordinary People, Extraordinary God, author and minister Scott G. Van Note shows us how, as the pinnacle of the Lord's creation, we too can be heroes of faith and accomplish great and mighty things for Him. Van Note focuses on the people of the Bible, presenting stories of their lives to show how their ordinary lives were transformed by their willingness to listen to God's Word. Two interactive chapters contain worksheets to help readers understand how their lives and experiences relate to the lives of the biblical people that are discussed. The questions posed offer food for individual reflection as well as for youth and adult group study and discussion. Through His Word, God has poured out love and compassion for each of us, and He is still in the business of helping, blessing and gifting His creation. Ordinary People, Extraordinary God helps us relate to Scripture and the people within it like never before. God does desire to use us in His kingdom, and if we are willing, He will use us mightily. "Ordinary People, Extraordinary God shows how God uses people just like you and me in powerful ways, when we act on faith in Him and His word, and abandon the bad habit of trusting in our own strength, plans, and ideas. As I read the book and was reminded of those in the Biblical story whom we think of as heroes of the faith, I was challenged to renew my absolute trust in and obedience to the Lord. I know Scott, and he is a man who models this life of faith and obedience. I recommend this book as a source of encouragement and challenge in our faith walk." Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the story of Condoleezza Rice that has never been told, not that of an ultra-accomplished world leader, but of a little girl--and a young woman--trying to find her place in a sometimes hostile world, of two exceptional parents, and an extended family and community that made all the difference. Condoleezza Rice has excelled as a diplomat, political scientist, and concert pianist. Her achievements run the gamut from helping to oversee the collapse of communism in Europe and the decline of the Soviet Union, to working to protect the country in the aftermath of 9-11, to becoming only the second woman--and the first black woman ever--to serve as Secretary of State. But until she was 25 she never learned to swim, because when she was a little girl in Birmingham, Alabama, Commissioner of Public Safety Bull Connor decided he'd rather shut down the city's pools than give black citizens access. Throughout the 1950's, Birmingham's black middle class largely succeeded in insulating their children from the most corrosive effects of racism, providing multiple support systems to ensure the next generation would live better than the last. But by 1963, Birmingham had become an environment where blacks were expected to keep their head down and do what they were told--or face violent consequences. That spring two bombs exploded in Rice’s neighborhood amid a series of chilling Klu Klux Klan attacks. Months later, four young girls lost their lives in a particularly vicious bombing. So how was Rice able to achieve what she ultimately did? Her father, John, a minister and educator, instilled a love of sports and politics. Her mother, a teacher, developed Condoleezza’s passion for piano and exposed her to the fine arts. From both, Rice learned the value of faith in the face of hardship and the importance of giving back to the community. Her parents’ fierce unwillingness to set limits propelled her to the venerable halls of Stanford University, where she quickly rose through the ranks to become the university’s second-in-command. An expert in Soviet and Eastern European Affairs, she played a leading role in U.S. policy as the Iron Curtain fell and the Soviet Union disintegrated. Less than a decade later, at the apex of the hotly contested 2000 presidential election, she received the exciting news--just shortly before her father’s death--that she would go on to the White House as the first female National Security Advisor. As comfortable describing lighthearted family moments as she is recalling the poignancy of her mother’s cancer battle and the heady challenge of going toe-to-toe with Soviet leaders, Rice holds nothing back in this remarkably candid telling.
