Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Orderliness refers to the fact of having a regular, proper, and systematic arrangement. It is the quality of being in a good order. Orderliness is being in an ordered manner. An orderly thing can be by virtue of being methodical and well organized. God likes and cherishes orderliness and doing things orderly. The Word of God says, "Let all things be done decently and in order" (1 Cor. 14:40). In manner, behaviour, and actions, orderliness has to do with obedience to the Word of God. Disobedience is disorderliness. When God sent King Saul on a mission to annihilate the Amalekites and their livestock, he obeyed; but his obedience was partial obedience, which God counted as disobedience. And his story is a pathetic story, because he might have done what he did with good intentions. But what is good in disobeying God's Word, Command, and Instructions? He was disorderly and disobedient before the Almighty. There should be orderliness in the church, in the family, in the society, etc.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book to challenge the broken-windows theory of crime, which argues that permitting minor misdemeanors, such as loitering and vagrancy, to go unpunished only encourages more serious crime. The theory has revolutionized policing in the United States and abroad, with its emphasis on policies that crack down on disorderly conduct and aggressively enforce misdemeanor laws. The problem, argues Bernard Harcourt, is that although the broken-windows theory has been around for nearly thirty years, it has never been empirically verified. Indeed, existing data suggest that it is false. Conceptually, it rests on unexamined categories of law abiders and disorderly people and of order and disorder, which have no intrinsic reality, independent of the techniques of punishment that we implement in our society. How did the new order-maintenance approach to criminal justice--a theory without solid empirical support, a theory that is conceptually flawed and results in aggressive detentions of tens of thousands of our fellow citizens--come to be one of the leading criminal justice theories embraced by progressive reformers, policymakers, and academics throughout the world? This book explores the reasons why. It also presents a new, more thoughtful vision of criminal justice.

Book excerpt: In the post-Cold War New World Order, the European Union (EU) is among a growing number of regional regimes that are acquiring prominent roles in the process of global governance. The EU is the most advanced and influential regional regime by virtue of being constructed aroung the supranational European Community (EC). However, the evident competitive advantages of supranationalism will foster the consolidation and proliferation of supranational regional regimes in a manner consistent with the neo-functionalist understanding of such organisations.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This accessible and entertaining book explores the fundamental connections between life and information and how they emerged inextricably linked, taking the reader on a journey through all the major evolutionary transitions. It records the entire path of how life's information has evolved, starting from the growing polymers of prelife leading to the first replicators, through RNA and DNA to neural networks and animal brains, continuing through the major transition of human language and writing, into computer clouds, and finally heading towards an unknown future. All currently known life is based on three classes of molecules: proteins - life's main structural and functional building blocks; DNA - life's information molecule; and RNA - a molecule that provides the link between these two. Despite the existence of language and the new means of information recording and processing it enabled, at the current stage of life's evolution, the information stored in the natural repository of our planet's DNA archive remains indispensable. If the DNA on Earth were to become seriously corrupted, all cultural information and life itself would soon disappear. However, does future life have to be reliant on these molecules or could a living organism be made of e.g. steel, rubber, copper, and silicon? What was life like when it first emerged on Earth billions of years ago? What will life be like millions or billions of years from now, if it still exists? Could future civilisations, including the possible heirs of the present one, persist without proteins, DNA, and RNA? The author arms the reader with the knowledge required to speculate about such questions in an informed and reasoned way. Living Computers is aimed at students and scholars in a wide range of disciplines, from physics, computing, and biology to social sciences and philosophy. The fascinating idea of life as a computational phenomenon will also appeal to a more general readership interested in our origins and future existence.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This innovative book marks a new way of looking at convict women. It tells their stories in a powerful and evocative way, drawing out broader themes of gender and sexual disorder and race and class dynamics in a colonial context. It considers the convict past in light of contemporary concerns, looking at the cultural meanings of aspects of life in the colony: on ships, in the factories and in orphanages. Using startlingly original research, Joy Damousi considers such varied topics as headshaving as punishment in the prisons and the subversive nature of laughter and play, as well as analysing the language of pollution, purity and abandonment. She also dicusses the nature of sexual relationships, including evidence of lesbianism. The book shows how understanding about sexual and racial difference was crucial for both the maintenance and disturbance of colonial society, and became a focus for cultural anxiety.

Book excerpt: Commercial Practice is the work done for the earning, acquisition, and ownership of existence and within existence! What one acquires, the one is said to own, resulting in the application of ownership to anything at all acquirable, including the slave; however, the slave is held in possession disowned and hence cannot be said to be owned! We cannot accurately say that one owns a slave nor that a slave has owner, when the slave is held disowned! The disowned thing has no owner. The application of ownership to the slave has brought difficulty in telling the relationship between parent and child, husband and wife, employer and employee, and citizen and state, for instance, as a person being owned sounds as the person being a slave. We have redeemed the reality of ownership. There are things one can own and things one cannot own although acquirable: therefore, there are things one has the Right to acquire and things one has no Right to acquire. If you cannot own it and you acquire it then you have stolen it, rendering you a criminal, as theft is a crime! Learn Commercial Practice: it is the legitimate method of acquiring and possessing, and ownership.

Book excerpt: Information theoretics vis-a-vis neural networks generally embodies parametric entities and conceptual bases pertinent to memory considerations and information storage, information-theoretic based cost-functions, and neurocybernetics and self-organization. Existing studies only sparsely cover the entropy and/or cybernetic aspects of neural information. Information-Theoretic Aspects of Neural Networks cohesively explores this burgeoning discipline, covering topics such as: Shannon information and information dynamics neural complexity as an information processing system memory and information storage in the interconnected neural web extremum (maximum and minimum) information entropy neural network training non-conventional, statistical distance-measures for neural network optimizations symmetric and asymmetric characteristics of information-theoretic error-metrics algorithmic complexity based representation of neural information-theoretic parameters genetic algorithms versus neural information dynamics of neurocybernetics viewed in the information-theoretic plane nonlinear, information-theoretic transfer function of the neural cellular units statistical mechanics, neural networks, and information theory semiotic framework of neural information processing and neural information flow fuzzy information and neural networks neural dynamics conceived through fuzzy information parameters neural information flow dynamics informatics of neural stochastic resonance Information-Theoretic Aspects of Neural Networks acts as an exceptional resource for engineers, scientists, and computer scientists working in the field of artificial neural networks as well as biologists applying the concepts of communication theory and protocols to the functioning of the brain. The information in this book explores new avenues in the field and creates a common platform for analyzing the neural complex as well as artificial neural networks.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Suppose the universe expands and becomes a void, as most scientists think. Would that mean . God failed? If that is the fate of the universe, then some of our beliefs concerning God and our place in nature, as well as our beliefs concerning how we should live in the world, will not be borne out. From the biblical perspective, it looks as though the formless void and deep darkness opposing God from the beginning prevailed in the end. Today, when we consider the fate of the universe, as well as the possible destruction of life on Earth, it looks as though a deep darkness surrounds usThat is the idea this book considers. When we explore it, we find that we refocus our understanding of faith, hope, and love, and revitalize our view of how we should live. In brief, faith in a God who challenged the formless void and deep darkness in order to create life and sustain it charges us to do the same: oppose lifelessness and be good stewards of life. Faith in an insurgent God restores authentic hope for our future and realizes its true end: not in heaven, but on Earth, and perhaps beyond it.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I wrote this book in my darkest time and realized that I must use my experiences to teach people many ways to enjoy both sides of life. I believe that there is no such thing as a good time or bad time in life. Rather, I see opportunities for creative invention, regeneration, growth, circumcision of heart, and thinking about the past and the future. I wrote this book to answer some of the world's most commonly asked questions, which always cross my mind. I propose many sources of the problems we have in the world, as well as solutions for how to handle them. Do the politicians really have the solution to our economic problems? Can the world ever experience peace and harmony? Has religion done us more harm than good? Is there really a God? If there is one, where can we find him/her? I think that, after reading this book, most of your questions will be answered. Human beings forget that there are two sides to everything: the good and the bad, the sun and the moon, night and day, light and darkness. Unfortunately, we choose to see only the good sides of existence as being beneficial and refuse to embrace and see the opportunities that can come from the hard times. We may be so busy seeing the faults of other people and not our own; could that be one of the reasons we seem to misunderstand each other? I hope to impart my wisdom to you. Do not worry about death, but consider how to be prepared when it comes. Additionally, you must acknowledge God and his sovereignty, and not only by attending church or Mosque. This book also teaches about parenting, attitudes, character and many other things about life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is difficult to doubt that we suffer at present from the manifold aspects of an economic crisis which affects all walks of life. Well, men in almost every epoch in history have maintained that they were going through a crisis which was sup posed to be always more grave than any preceding critical phase. Very often those crises were not of an economic nature, but concerned either health, the political structure, the opportunity of acquiring knowledge, and so on. I think that we would consider today that some of those claims that were made in various historical epochs were often exaggerated if viewed from a historical point of view. However, it seems undeniable that we at present are in the middle of a universal economic crisis which has affected almost every facet of our daily life. And yet, the fact that despite these adverse conditions it is still possible to gather scholars from all corners of the world to deal with often sheer theo retical and sometimes abstract pursuits is a refutation of any facile pessimism it is reassuring to all who wonder where political and social events are taking us. Our salvation may well come from those acts of the mind so character istic of the pure scientist and scholar.

Book excerpt: Concepts of God presented by Greek philosophers were significantly different from the image of the divine of popular religion and indicate a fairly sophisticated theological reflection from the very inception of Greek philosophy. This book presents a comprehensive history of theological thought of Greek philosophers from the Presocratics to the early Hellenistic period. Concentrating on views concerning the attributes of God and their impact on eschatological and ethical thought, Drozdek explains that theology was of paramount importance for all Greek philosophers even in the absence of purely theological or religious language.
