Four dynamic models are considered. The first model is that of the circular restricted three-body problem (CR3BP), in which the satellite is in the presence of two large point masses in circular orbit about their mutual center of gravitation. The next two models are applications of the restricted full two-Body problem (RF2BP), in which the satellite is in orbit about a uniformly rotating, constant-density ellipsoid whose gravity distribution is characterized using the complete shape integral for an ellipsoid and an approximation of the ellipsoid shape using spherical harmonic expansion, respectively. The final dynamic model uses spherical harmonic approximation of an ellipsoid whose state of rotation is not constant. In all dynamic models, the satellite does not influence the motion of the gravitational body or bodies. Several applications to space mission design in complex gravity fields are also considered, such as the creation of a periodic orbit about an asteroid and an analysis of the visibility requirements for a communications network between an orbiting satellite and ground stations on the surface of an asteroid.
