Kinnear II, a highly decorated naval aviator who flew more than 100 combat missions in Korea and Vietnam flying every combat aircraft the Navy had during his career, making over 1,000 carrier landings. He rose from enlisted ranks to command "Fighter Town U.S.A.," Carrier Group Two, was the Chief of Legislative Affairs for the Secretary of the Navy, and served as the U.S. Military Representative to NATO. He was a high-school dropout, but went on to earn Bachelor's and Master's degrees from George Washington University and, subsequently, a Master's and a PhD from Stanford University. He ended his professional career as President of the University of New Hampshire. This book is not a collection of "war stories," but the intimate, personal story of an extraordinary man of courage, patriotism, public service and, above all, integrity. James Carter is a life-long professional writer, journalist, editor and author. He holds a degree from the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communications. He has written hundreds of articles for magazines and newspapers, and has received dozens of awards for his writing. After retiring as Vice Chairman of Hammond Farrell, Inc., a leading marketing fi rm in New York, he became the Editor and Publisher of The York Weekly, the newspaper of record in York, Maine, which under his guidance won numerous awards from the Maine Press Association. He sold the newspaper in 1999 (although he still writes his iconic weekly column) to dedicate himself full time to writing. He co-authored (with Robert Shaines) Secrets in a Time of Peace, a history-based novel of international intrigue and nuclear conflict. He also co-authored (with Dick Balkite) The AltMaine Guide: Your Alternative to the Usual Maine Tourist Guidebook.
