Book Synopsis Optimum Stage-weight Distribution of Multistage Rockets by : John J. Coleman
Download or read book Optimum Stage-weight Distribution of Multistage Rockets written by John J. Coleman and published by . This book was released on 1960 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this analysis a generalized method is developed for determining the optimum stage-weight distribution for multistage rockets. Inclusion of the variations in structural factors with stage weights in the optimization process is shown to lead to a more generalized set of optimum conditions. Expression of all rocket weight parameters in terms of the stage weights allows for convenient optimization as well as for a comparison with previous optimization methods. This approach per mits improved optimum design over existing methods for maximizing payload ratios for given ranges and for maximizing ranges for given payload ratios. An evaluation of previous methods is included for comparison purposes, and the limitations of these previous methods are discussed. (Author).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aerospace Engineering/Mechanical Engineering The definitive text on rocket propulsion-now completely revised to reflect rapid advancements in the field For more than fifty years, this seminal text has been regarded as the single most authoritative sourcebook on rocket propulsion technology. More comprehensive and coherently organized than any other book on the subject, Rocket Propulsion Elements guides readers evenhandedly through the complex factors that shape propulsion, with both theory and practical design considerations. With more than a third of the text and illustrations either completely new or extensively revised, this latest edition includes current information on engine structures, nozzle theory, gas properties, thrust chambers, launch vehicles, and more. With a detailed table of contents breaking down each chapter into subsections-as well as an expanded index of key words-the Seventh Edition efficiently steers readers quickly to the information they need. Other highlights include: * Separate chapters on liquid, solid, and hybrid propulsion systems and a new chapter on thrust chambers including the new aerospike nozzle * Comprehensive coverage of rocket propulsion technology, with applications to space flight, satellite flight, and guided and unguided missiles * Problem-solving examples and exercises relevant to actual design situations * More than 340 illustrations, including photographs, tables, and graphs * Coherent, up-to-date chapter on electrical propulsion balancing fundamentals with practical aspects and applications For professional engineers in the aerospace and defense industries as well as undergraduate and graduate students in mechanical and aerospace engineering, this time-honored resource is indispensable for its scope of coverage and utility.
Book Synopsis On the Optimization of Two-stage Rockets by : Martin Goldsmith
Download or read book On the Optimization of Two-stage Rockets written by Martin Goldsmith and published by . This book was released on 1956 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Equations useful in design studies are derived for determining the optimum weight distribution for two-stage tandem rockets for the case of different structural factors and propellant specific impulses in each stage. Minimization of gross weight for a given required burnout velocity and payload is the criterion of optimization used. For illustrative purposes an example is included in which the optimum distribution is found for a hypothetical chemically-boosted atomic rocket. (Author).

Download or read book Analysis of Optimum Staging Ratios for Rockets with Fixed and Propellant-dependent Structural Factors written by F. R. Sedlund and published by . This book was released on 1960 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report was prepared to document a study of optimum weight ratios of multi-stage rockets. The study includes the effects of gravity and of stage inert weights expressed as a constant plus a term proportional to stage propellant weight. This report includes the case of no gravity field and the case of vertical flight in a constant gravity field. A subsequent report will present the case of general ballistic flight in a constant gravity field. (Author).

Book Synopsis Advances in Space Science and Technology by : Frederick I. Ordway
Download or read book Advances in Space Science and Technology written by Frederick I. Ordway and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-12-02 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advances in Space Science and Technology, Volume 4 provides information pertinent to the fundamental aspects of basic and applied astronautics. This book deals with one of the more practical aspects of artificial satellites, measurement of the Doppler effect. Organized into six chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the Doppler effect of Earth-circling satellites. This text then explores the possibility of the existence of intelligent beings other than man. Other chapters consider the historical development of multistage rockets and space carrier vehicles and explain the concepts and approaches to manned orbital flight. This book discusses as well the problems of bringing spacecraft safely through planetary atmospheres and onto the surface. The final chapter deals with radioactive elements as energy sources for spacecraft propulsion in orbital transfer and for travel between the worlds of the Solar System. This book is a valuable resource for biologists, astronomers, chemists, geologists, and geochemists.
