Download or read book High Field Magnetism written by F. Herlach and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-06-03 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High Field Magnetism covers the proceedings of the 2nd International Symposium on High Field Magnetism held in Leuven, Belgium on July 20-23, 1988. The book focuses on magnetism, superconductivity, superconductors, and magnetic properties. The selection first offers information on DC laboratory electromagnets and design of magnet coils for semi-continuous magnetic fields. Discussions focus on resistive and hybrid magnets, power, stress, and homogeneity of the field. The book then examines production of ultra-high magnetic fields and their application to solid state physics; laboratory facility for the magnetic flux compression systems using large explosives; and production of repeating pulsed high magnetic field. The book takes a look at an electronic monitoring system for hybrid magnets; non-destructive quasi-static pulsed magnetic fields at Toulouse; and high field laboratory for superconducting materials at the Institute for Materials Research at Tohoku University. The manuscript then ponders on high magnetic field facility at Osaka University; advances in high field magnetism at Osaka; and status and prospects of superconducting Chevrel phase wires for high magnetic field applications. The selection is a dependable reference for readers interested in high field magnetism.

Book Synopsis Optical Fiber Communications Principles and Practice by : Edwin Conway

This book was released on 2019-11-05 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The field of fibre optics communications has exploded over the past two decades. Fibre is an integral part of modern day communication infrastructure and can be found along roads, in buildings, hospitals and machinery. Fibre optic communication has revolutionised the telecommunications industry. It has also made its presence widely felt within the data networking community as well. Using fibre optic cable, optical communications have enabled telecommunications links to be made over much greater distances and with much lower levels of loss in the transmission medium and possibly most important of all, fiber optical communications has enabled much higher data rates to be accommodated. Optical fibers can be used to transmit light and thus information over long distances. Fiber-based systems have largely replaced radio transmitter systems for long-haul optical data transmission. They are widely used for telephony, but also for Internet traffic, long high-speed local area networks (LANs), cable TV (CATV), and increasingly also for shorter distances within buildings. In most cases, silica fibers are used, except for very short distances, where plastic optical fibers can be advantageous. The basic components are light signal transmitter, the optical fiber, and the photo detecting receiver. The additional elements such as fiber and cable splicers and connectors, regenerators, beam splitters, and optical amplifiers are employed to improve the performance of the communication system. The book offers a completely up-to-date, accessible, and in-depth introduction to the principles and applications of optical fiber communications. It describes the recent developments in optical fiber communication materials, devices, components, and systems.
Book Synopsis Trends in Optical Fibre Metrology and Standards by : Olivério D.D. Soares

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 852 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fibre Optics has gained prominence in: telecommunications, data transmission and distribution, cable television networks, sensing and control, light probing and instrumentation. The 1990's shows an increased expansion of optical fibre networks which respond to the rapid growth on a world scale of long distance trunk lines combined with a family of emerging optical based services in which fibre-to-the-home will have the greatest impact. There is already evidence that optical communications are moving toward higher bit-rates, wavelength transparency and irrelevance of signal formats. The rate of change in fibre optics and the emergence of new services will be a mere consequence of economics. The actual increasing of cost and the demand for high-date-rates or large bandwidth per transmission channels, and the lack of available space in the congested conduits in urban areas, strongly favour the technological change to fibre optics. The recognised advantages of fibre optic technologies and the unchallenged potential to respond to future needs requires the inclusion of fibre optics networking into new installations. Concomitantly, current progress in the field of optical fibres (optical fibre amplifiers, optical fibre switching, WDM, fibre gratings, etc.) unfold major technical advances and greater flexibility in the designs and engineering of networks, optical fibre components and instrumentation. The explosion of growth in fibre sensors, fibre probes and the myriad of fibre based components shows that we are only using a fraction of optical fibre potential.
