Book Synopsis Operators of Class $C_0$ with Spectra in Multiply Connected Regions by : Adele Zucchi
Download or read book Operators of Class $C_0$ with Spectra in Multiply Connected Regions written by Adele Zucchi and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1997 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the present paper the author studies the analogue of the class [italic capital]C0 within a class of operators having a functional calculus based on the algebra of bounded holomorphic functions in a finitely connected domain with an analytic boundary. The latter class consists of the operators having the closure of the domain as a spectral set and having no normal direct summands with spectra contained in the boundary of the domain. (If the domain is the disk the preceding class reduces to the class of completely nonunitary contractions.) The basic properties known for the case of the disk, including the model theory, are established. The extension, even the mere construction of the functional calculus, is not routine, in part because it is unknown whether the analogue of Sz.-Nagy's dilation theorem is true in the author's multiply connected setting.

Download or read book Algebro-Geometric Quasi-Periodic Finite-Gap Solutions of the Toda and Kac-van Moerbeke Hierarchies written by Wolfgang Bulla and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1998 with total page 97 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this work, the authors provide a self-contained discussion of all real-valued quasi-periodic finite-gap solutions of the Toda and Kac-van Moerbeke hierarchies of completely integrable evolution equations. The approach utilizes algebro-geometric methods, factorization techniques for finite difference expressions, as well as Miura-type transformations. Detailed spectral theoretic properties of Lax pairs and theta function representations of the solutions are derived. Features: Simple and unified treatment of the topic. Self-contained development. Novel results for the Kac-van Moerbeke hierarchy and its algebro-geometric solutions.
Book Synopsis Controllability, Stabilization, and the Regulator Problem for Random Differential Systems by : Russell Johnson
Download or read book Controllability, Stabilization, and the Regulator Problem for Random Differential Systems written by Russell Johnson and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1998 with total page 63 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume develops a systematic study of time-dependent control processes. The basic problem of null controllability of linear systems is first considered. Using methods of ergodic theory and topological dynamics, general local null controllability criteria are given. Then the subtle question of global null controllability is studied. Next, the random linear feedback and stabilization problem is posed and solved. Using concepts of exponential dichotomy and rotation number for linear Hamiltonian systems, a solution of the Riccati equation is obtained which has extremely good robustness properties and which also preserves all the smoothness and recurrence properties of the coefficients. Finally, a general version of the local nonlinear feedback stabilization problem is solved.

Book Synopsis Almost Automorphic and Almost Periodic Dynamics in Skew-Product Semiflows by : Wenxian Shen
Download or read book Almost Automorphic and Almost Periodic Dynamics in Skew-Product Semiflows written by Wenxian Shen and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1998 with total page 111 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is devoted to the study of almost automorphic dynamics in differential equations. By making use of techniques from abstract topological dynamics, it is shown that almost automorphy, a notion which was introduced by S. Bochner in 1955, is essential and fundamental in the qualitative study of almost periodic differential equations.

Download or read book Existence and Persistence of Invariant Manifolds for Semiflows in Banach Space written by Peter W. Bates and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1998 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Extends the theory for normally hyperbolic invariant manifolds to infinite dimensional dynamical systems in a Banach space, thereby providing tools for the study of PDE's and other infinite dimensional equations of evolution. In the process, the authors establish the existence of center-unstable and center-stable manifolds in a neighborhood of the unperturbed compact manifold. No index. Book Synopsis Lie Groups and Subsemigroups with Surjective Exponential Function by : Karl Heinrich Hofmann
Download or read book Lie Groups and Subsemigroups with Surjective Exponential Function written by Karl Heinrich Hofmann and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1997 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the structure theory of real Lie groups, there is still information lacking about the exponential function. Most notably, there are no general necessary and sufficient conditions for the exponential function to be surjective. It is surprising that for subsemigroups of Lie groups, the question of the surjectivity of the exponential function can be answered. Under nature reductions setting aside the "group part" of the problem, subsemigroups of Lie groups with surjective exponential function are completely classified and explicitly constructed in this memoir. There are fewer than one would think and the proofs are harder than one would expect, requiring some innovative twists. The main protagonists on the scene are SL(2, R) and its universal covering group, almost abelian solvable Lie groups (ie. vector groups extended by homotheties), and compact Lie groups. This text will also be of interest to those working in algebra and algebraic geometry.
Book Synopsis The Structure of $k$-$CS$- Transitive Cycle-Free Partial Orders by : Richard Warren
Download or read book The Structure of $k$-$CS$- Transitive Cycle-Free Partial Orders written by Richard Warren and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1997 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The class of cycle-free partial orders (CFPOs) is defined, and the CFPOs fulfilling a natural transitivity assumption, called k-connected set transitivity (k-CS-transitivity), are analysed in some detail. Classification in many of the interesting cases is given. This work generlizes Droste's classification of the countable k-transitive trees (k>1). In a CFPO, the structure can be branch downwards as well as upwards, and can do so repeatedely (though it neverr returns to the starting point by a cycle). Mostly it is assumed that k>2 and that all maximal chains are finite. The main classification splits into the sporadic and skeletal cases. The former is complete in all cardinalities. The latter is performed only in the countable case. The classification is considerably more complicated than for trees, and skeletal CFPOs exhibit rich, elaborate and rather surprising behaviour.
Book Synopsis Model Theory and Linear Extreme Points in the Numerical Radius Unit Ball by : Michael A. Dritschel
Download or read book Model Theory and Linear Extreme Points in the Numerical Radius Unit Ball written by Michael A. Dritschel and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1997 with total page 77 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This memoir initiates a model theory-based study of the numerical radius norm. Guided by the abstract model theory of Jim Agler, the authors propose a decomposition for operators that is particularly useful in understanding their properties with respect to the numerical radius norm. Of the topics amenable to investigation with these tools, the following are presented: a complete description of the linear extreme points of the non-matrix (numerical radius) unit ball; several equivalent characterizations of matricial extremals in the unit ball, that is, those members which do not allow a nontrivial extension remaining in the unit ball; and applications to numerical ranges of matrices, including a complete parameterization of all matrices whose numerical ranges are closed disks.
Book Synopsis Nonlinear Eigenvalues and Analytic-Hypoellipticity by : Ching-Chau Yu
Download or read book Nonlinear Eigenvalues and Analytic-Hypoellipticity written by Ching-Chau Yu and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1998 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Explores the failure of analytic-hypoellipticity of two partial differential operators. The operators are sums of squares of real analytic vector fields and satisfy Hormander's condition. By reducing to an ordinary differential operator, the author shows the existence of non-linear eigenvalues, which is used to disprove analytic- hypoellipticity of the original operators. No index. Book Synopsis Harmonic Analysis of Operators on Hilbert Space by : Béla Sz Nagy
Download or read book Harmonic Analysis of Operators on Hilbert Space written by Béla Sz Nagy and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-09-01 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The existence of unitary dilations makes it possible to study arbitrary contractions on a Hilbert space using the tools of harmonic analysis. The first edition of this book was an account of the progress done in this direction in 1950-70. Since then, this work has influenced many other areas of mathematics, most notably interpolation theory and control theory. This second edition, in addition to revising and amending the original text, focuses on further developments of the theory, including the study of two operator classes: operators whose powers do not converge strongly to zero, and operators whose functional calculus (as introduced in Chapter III) is not injective. For both of these classes, a wealth of material on structure, classification and invariant subspaces is included in Chapters IX and X. Several chapters conclude with a sketch of other developments related with (and developing) the material of the first edition.

Book Synopsis Hopf Algebras, Polynomial Formal Groups, and Raynaud Orders by : Lindsay Childs
Download or read book Hopf Algebras, Polynomial Formal Groups, and Raynaud Orders written by Lindsay Childs and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1998 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume gives two new methods for constructing $p$-elementary Hopf algebra orders over the valuation ring $R$ of a local field $K$ containing the $p$-adic rational numbers. One method constructs Hopf orders using isogenies of commutative degree 2 polynomial formal groups of dimension $n$, and is built on a systematic study of such formal group laws. The other method uses an exponential generalization of a 1992 construction of Greither. Both constructions yield Raynaud orders as iterated extensions of rank $p$ Hopf algebras; the exponential method obtains all Raynaud orders whose invariants satisfy a certain $p$-adic condition.
Book Synopsis Hodge Theory in the Sobolev Topology for the de Rham Complex by : Luigi Fontana
Download or read book Hodge Theory in the Sobolev Topology for the de Rham Complex written by Luigi Fontana and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1998 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, the authors treat the full Hodge theory for the de Rham complex when calculated in the Sobolev topology rather than in the $L2$ topology. The use of the Sobolev topology strikingly alters the problem from the classical setup and gives rise to a new class of elliptic boundary value problems. The study takes place on both the upper half space and on a smoothly bounded domain. It features: a good introduction to elliptic theory, pseudo-differential operators, and boundary value problems; theorems completely explained and proved; and new geometric tools for differential analysis on domains and manifolds.
Book Synopsis A Continuum Limit of the Toda Lattice by : Percy Deift
Download or read book A Continuum Limit of the Toda Lattice written by Percy Deift and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1998 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, the authors describe a continuum limit of the Toda ODE system, obtained by taking as initial data for the finite lattice successively finer discretizations of two smooth functions. Using the integrability of the finite Toda lattice, the authors adapt the method introduced by Lax and Levermore for the study of the small dispersion limit of the Korteweg de Vries equations to the case of the Toda lattice. A general class of initial data is considered which permits, in particular, the formation of shocks. A feature of the analysis in this book is an extensive use of techniques from the theory of Riemann-Hilbert problems.
Book Synopsis Systems, Approximation, Singular Integral Operators, and Related Topics by : Alexander A. Borichev
Download or read book Systems, Approximation, Singular Integral Operators, and Related Topics written by Alexander A. Borichev and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to some topical problems and applications of operator theory and its interplay with modern complex analysis. It consists of 20 selected survey papers that represent updated (mainly plenary) addresses to the IWOTA 2000 conference held at Bordeaux from June 13 to 16, 2000. The main subjects of the volume include: - spectral analysis of periodic differential operators and delay equations, stabilizing controllers, Fourier multipliers; - multivariable operator theory, model theory, commutant lifting theorems, coisometric realizations; - Hankel operators and forms; - operator algebras; - the Bellman function approach in singular integrals and harmonic analysis, singular integral operators and integral representations; - approximation in holomorphic spaces. These subjects are unified by the common "operator theoretic approach" and the systematic use of modern function theory techniques.
