Book Synopsis Open Hearts and Open Minds Open Doors by : John Fox
Download or read book Open Hearts and Open Minds Open Doors written by John Fox and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2001-06-19 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Open Hearts & Open Minds Open Doors—Volume I & II, intends to stimulate creative thought. John K. Fox, Ph.D., explains the source of his opinions and his approach to creativity and life by referencing his experiences. The Open Hearts & Open Minds Open Doors series is best understood if we consider that the North and South Poles of our Earth, and the flow of Electrical Current, share the same essence as described in the Oriental concept of the Yin and the Yang. That theme-central is that the Female and the Male are not Opposite Sexes—they are Essential-Inseparable-Compatibles. Dr. Fox asserts that the essential difference between the Oriental and the Occidental is well illustrated in the depiction of the fat-bellied Buddha. The Buddha was in truth, a thin man. According to Oriental perception, the belly (the umbilical) represents the center of each person. In moments of personal sadness, the Occidental might say, “my heart is breaking.” The Oriental might be more inclined to feel that the human longing for comfort originates in the abdomen. Yet, we Occidentals share the Oriental abdominal perspective when we reference the inner strength found within a person, colloquially, as, “having guts!”

Book Synopsis The Crucifixion by : Fleming Rutledge
Download or read book The Crucifixion written by Fleming Rutledge and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2015 with total page 695 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Few treatments of the death of Jesus Christ have made a point of accounting for the gruesome, degrading, public manner of his death by crucifixion, a mode of execution so loathsome that the ancient Romans never spoke of it in polite society. Rutledge probes all the various themes and motifs used by the New Testament evangelists and apostolic writers to explain the meaning of the cross of Christ. She shows how each of the biblical themes contributes to the whole, with the Christus Victor motif and the concept of substitution sharing pride of place along with Irenaeus's recapitulation model.

Book Synopsis Managing Nonprofit Organizations in a Policy World by : Shannon K. Vaughan
Download or read book Managing Nonprofit Organizations in a Policy World written by Shannon K. Vaughan and published by CQ Press. This book was released on 2013-01-08 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If nonprofits influence policy, make policy, are affected by policy, and are subject to policy, then shouldn't every nonprofit manager fully understand the policy world in which they operate? In explicitly tying the policy realm to management skills, Shannon Vaughan and Shelly Arsneault's foundational book sheds new light on how nonprofit managers can better navigate policymaking and regulatory contexts to effectively lead their organizations. Managing Nonprofit Organizations in a Policy World provides a comprehensive overview of the nonprofit sector and the policy environment, with a focus on skills and strategies managers can use to advance the causes of their organizations. Abundant examples and rich case studies explore the complexity of the policy-nonprofit relationship and highlight both management challenges and successes. While coverage of the nuts-and-bolts is in here, what sets this book apart is tying everyday management to the broader view of how nonprofits can thrive within the policy ecosystem.
Book Synopsis Most Evil Is Done by Good People Who Do Not Know That They Are Not Good by : Ferd L. Wagner
Download or read book Most Evil Is Done by Good People Who Do Not Know That They Are Not Good written by Ferd L. Wagner and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2010-05 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book takes the view that Christian truth is the basis for all answers to social issues and that there are not two opposing but equal answers within Christian truth that are equally valid and equally acceptable to God. Any so called truth or "right" that circumvents or undercuts the required sacrifices, disciplines and self denial demanded by God in any given social or moral issue ceases to be truth, ceases to be right the moment it becomes a force unto itself, outside of or independent of the Scripturally required obedience. Human history has shown over the millennia that when the letter and spirit of God's laws are not obeyed, the truth is abused, nations become confused and people are used. Many of our political and social issues are rooted in our misplaced belief that tolerance, inclusion, equal respect for unequal truth and live and let live is the way to greater peace and prosperity. They are all wrong. Each individual, government and nation is judged by their response to Christ. The Christian nation or one which ascribes to being one, is tasked to set the Christian standard as every nation's point of reference. It is the Christian's duty to show that the valid rule of God's law, the letter of God's law and the spirit of God's law are superior to any other alternative standard. The biggest obstacle to Christianity today is the undisciplined, misinformed and unfaithful lifestyles of professing Christians. The Church has become so indoctrinated in its aversion to any form of discrimination that it has placed a higher priority on keeping the peace by compromising than by keeping the truth by discriminating. By accepting a false peace and rejecting a hard truth that resists compromise, it begets neither peace nor truth.

Book excerpt: Foster care is more than what I ever could have imagined it to be. It has been the biggest challenge of my life and, every once in a while, the most gratifying. If I can see just a glimpse of change in any of these boys, it lets me know that I am on the right track. Knowing that I have made a very small difference in these children's lives is better than nothing at all. After watching her own mother struggle with mental illness and a history of abuse, S. Oliphant knew that she wanted to make a difference in the lives of children dealing with those same issues. After working in a residential facility, she finally decided, despite the fact that she was already a single mother, to take in foster children. With love, patience, and the belief that every child deserves a chance, S. Oliphant set out to battle the system and change the lives of children who are often forgotten. With Open Doors, Open Hearts, we really can make the world a better place for these children.
