Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Dish Keepers of Honest House is an original fairytale. Rehabilitating four-greed stricken dentists is a task Irish butler EDWIN HEDGECROFT takes very seriously. As Ella, a former newspaper reporter on vacation in Ireland, examines past grievances with dental professionals HARRY BADGER, NELGON FESTOON, GUILLIAM MOREDUCK and MOTT FINKS, Hedgecroft's partner in concert MOTHER NATURE delivers invitations to a special meeting. The train stops within walking distance of Honest House, where a directional sign swings aimlessly until wind ceases and the dentists see the gate. Before them is another sign: "Dish Keepers, This Way." Mother Nature and Hedgecroft guide the dentists to consequences of greed. Imbalances in humanity stir up raging storms. These dentists learn why they are suddenly in the grips of phantom teeth, giant saliva containers, an indiscriminate tooth-plucking assistant, grotesquely repulsive nurses and dishes from every far corner of the world.

Book excerpt: Now an original movie on Prime Video starring Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine! When Solène Marchand, the thirty-nine-year-old owner of a prestigious art gallery in Los Angeles, takes her daughter, Isabelle, to meet her favorite boy band, she does so reluctantly and at her ex-husband’s request. The last thing she expects is to make a connection with one of the members of the world-famous August Moon. But Hayes Campbell is clever, winning, confident, and posh, and the attraction is immediate. That he is all of twenty years old further complicates things. What begins as a series of clandestine trysts quickly evolves into a passionate relationship. It is a journey that spans continents as Solène and Hayes navigate each other’s disparate worlds: from stadium tours to international art fairs to secluded hideaways in Paris and Miami. And for Solène, it is as much a reclaiming of self, as it is a rediscovery of happiness and love. When their romance becomes a viral sensation, and both she and her daughter become the target of rabid fans and an insatiable media, Solène must face how her new status has impacted not only her life, but the lives of those closest to her.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of the 2014 National Outdoor Book Awards for History/Biography Emma Gatewood told her family she was going on a walk and left her small Ohio hometown with a change of clothes and less than two hundred dollars. The next anybody heard from her, this genteel, farm-reared, 67-year-old great-grandmother had walked 800 miles along the 2,050-mile Appalachian Trail. And in September 1955, having survived a rattlesnake strike, two hurricanes, and a run-in with gangsters from Harlem, she stood atop Maine's Mount Katahdin. There she sang the first verse of "America, the Beautiful" and proclaimed, "I said I'll do it, and I've done it." Grandma Gatewood, as the reporters called her, became the first woman to hike the entire Appalachian Trail alone, as well as the first person—man or woman—to walk it twice and three times. Gatewood became a hiking celebrity and appeared on TV and in the pages of Sports Illustrated. The public attention she brought to the little-known footpath was unprecedented. Her vocal criticism of the lousy, difficult stretches led to bolstered maintenance, and very likely saved the trail from extinction. Author Ben Montgomery was given unprecedented access to Gatewood's own diaries, trail journals, and correspondence, and interviewed surviving family members and those she met along her hike, all to answer the question so many asked: Why did she do it? The story of Grandma Gatewood will inspire readers of all ages by illustrating the full power of human spirit and determination. Even those who know of Gatewood don't know the full story—a story of triumph from pain, rebellion from brutality, hope from suffering.

Book excerpt: He drank her in, as if dying of thirst, but not touching her with anything more than his heated gaze. She held out her hand. He clasped it. And they caught fire. Audrey Oakes is in Wildcat Bluff County on a mission. She has a lead on the legendary Hallelujah Ranch bootlegger gold—money that would cover the cost of her grandmother's life-saving medical treatment—but she hadn't counted on following it straight into a group of wild horse rustlers. Audrey has no choice but to speed to the closest refuge and hide, only to be confronted by a gun-toting, hot-blooded cowboy. It might only be a coincidence that Audrey appears on firefighter Cole Murphy's doorstep just as the rustlers race by his ranch. But Cole isn't about to let anything, or anyone, distract him from catching the wild mustang thieves—no matter how red-hot his connection to her is. And if she is part of the rustler ring, all the more reason to keep a very close eye on her. This sexy cowboy romance is perfect for readers looking for: A cowboy firefighter who isn't afraid of a little heat A fearless woman who would do anything for her loved ones A sassy small town that feels like home Intense attraction that can't be denied Praise for Kim Redford's Smokin' Hot Cowboys: "This tale will melt even the iciest heart."—Publishers Weekly STARRED review for A Cowboy Firefighter for Christmas "As sweet as pie and spicy as chili."—Booklist for Cowboy Firefighter Christmas Kiss

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is amazing to realize that much of the Western medical community is in a love/hate relationship with the economics of medicine. Quality-Adjusted Life Years (QALYs) is one of the primary methods of guiding many medical decision-makers in the allocation of limited medical resources. Herein lies the problem of medicine and economics. It seems that deciding who will receive limited medical resources is a task filled with moral and ethical difficulties, even for those depending on the information obtained from QALY calculations. These moral and ethical difficulties are beyond the scope of sound bites that tout the benefits of universal health care, affordable insurance, or the safety of the free-market economy. The breadth of the difficulty is found in the widespread disagreement concerning how the health-care system should be distributed or fixed, since most will agree that there is a problem with distributing medical resources. It seemed obvious that some difficult decisions will need to be made that few are both willing and able to make. This difficulty is particularly true in decisions about health-care allocation, and that is where QALYs have been found useful and problematic. Limiting medical care for the elderly based upon their age did not occur until the mid-twentieth century possibly because the elderly held a unique position of respect in the Western community. It is no longer the case that the elderly are given a unique position of respect and dignity. Rather, it seems that with the increased use of QALY calculations, the elderly are in danger of receiving less medical care than they are warranted. It is imperative that Christians respond to the ethical implications of significant models of resource allocation that currently assist decision-makers in the allocation process, such as QALYs.
