Es wird davon ausgegangen, dass die intensive Nutzung von Instagram das Selbstbild eines Nutzers negativ beeinflusst. Die regelmäßige Konfrontation von inszenierten Idealbildern können einen Nutzer dazu bringen, vermehrt Selbstdarstellung zu betreiben, um Wertschätzung zu erhalten. Problemfragen werden in dieser Arbeit unter anderem sein: Welche Auswirkungen haben inszenierte Fotos auf den einzelnen Nutzer? Nehmen "Likes" Einfluss auf das Selbstbewusstsein? Der erste Teil klärt die Grundlagen zum Thema Sozialpsychologie, um eine ausreichende Kenntnis über Selbstdarstellung und Selbstwahrnehmung zu gewinnen. Das Thema Impression-Management wird eine zentrale Rolle spielen, um die Auswirkungen durch das Internet 2.0 näher erläutern zu können. Im zweiten Teil wird detaillierter auf das Netzwerk Instagram eingegangen und dieses inhaltsanalytisch beschrieben. Hierbei wird Bezug auf den Aufbau und die Idee hinter dem Netzwerk genommen und geklärt, wie sich dessen Nutzungsweise verändert hat. Speziell wird kritisch hinterfragt, ob eine solche App sozialen Druck auf den Menschen ausübt und wie sich dieser äußert. Der Schlussteil dieser Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit einer Bewertung und Stellungnahme zu dem Aspekt, ob die Nutzung von Instagram eine Bereicherung darstellt, oder negativen Einfluss auf den Menschen ausübt. Dazu werden Nutzungsverhalten, Aufbau der App und die Inhalte der Fotos nochmals kritisch hinterfragt. Zusätzlich gab es im Vorfeld dieser Arbeit eine online Umfrage zum Thema "Nutzungsverhalten und Einfluss von Instagram" deren Ergebnisse zum Ende ausgewertet und beurteilt werden.
