Rather than return home with her tail between her legs, she promptly heads for Paddington station and buys a ticket for Cornwall. All Samantha wants is a little time to reinvent herself. But she finds much more when she steps off the train in Little Penhaven. The charming Cornish village is a world away from Samantha’s life in Knoxville, Tennessee. And local farmer Caden Day is unlike any man she’s known before. A good-looking guy with a bad reputation, he’s exactly the sort Samantha would normally avoid. But there’s nothing normal about her summer in Little Penhaven. And as Samantha and Caden get to know each other, they discover a love that’s nothing less than extraordinary.

Book excerpt: Cornwall has a rich and diverse history stretching from prehistoric times to the Norman Conquest and beyond, including the turbulent Tudor period, the English Civil War and the First and Second World Wars. Neolithic settlements and Bronze Age dwellings have been found at Carn Brea in Redruth and Rough Tour at Camelford, and many standing stones are scattered across the land. An ancient forest lies beneath the waters between Marazion and the legendary St Michael's Mount, which dates back thousands of years. The area is steeped in legend and Tintagel has mythical connections with King Arthur, although the present castle was probably constructed by Richard, Earl of Cornwall (brother to King Henry III), who owned the site from about 1234. Tales of the Devil, giants, minions and other imps abound in the county. Many of Daphne Du Maurier's books are set in Cornwall including Jamaica Inn and Frenchman's Creek. Virginia Woolf's novel To the Lighthouse was based on holidays at St Ives, Cornwall, where her family took her every summer until 1895. The lighthouse at Godrevy gives inspiration to the title.Various battles and conflicts as well as the diverse and fascinating history of Cornwall are all featured within the pages of this book, which also includes many of the well-known people who have greatly influenced the area over the years.

Book excerpt: A lavishly illustrated companion to Winston Graham's beloved Poldark novels, reissued to coincide with the BBC series based on the novels. Graham's saga of Cornish life in the eighteenth century has enthralled readers throughout the world for seventy years and the wild landscapes that inspired the novels have - even today - remained relatively unchanged. Cornwall then was a perilous world of pirates and shipwrecks: of rugged coast and mysterious smugglers' coves, of windswept moors and picturesque villages such as Boscastle and Port Quin, and of beaches, tin mines and churches. With an introduction by Winston Graham's son, Andrew, and illustrated with stunning photographs, Poldark's Cornwall is a glorious evocation of the land of beauty, excitement, romance and imagination that Graham loved so well.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Little, if anything, is known about Torpoint's passage through the years of World War II; in fact it is a time forgotten. This book goes some way to describe what actually did happen. It is not about one story, but about many individual stories, threaded together to record and validate one person's recollection together with others, to give a true account of the incident in question, which caused death and injuries to its civilian residents; also the fate of its servicemen who died in battle throughout the world. Due to censorship, the taking of photographs was not permitted. However, during research for the book, a few did come to light, including German Reconnaissance photos identifying Torpoint as a target and American GIs leaving on 1st June 1944 bound for the D-Day Landings - a truthful illustration of the times and incidents that did occur. This book also identifies a complete list of Torpoint's War fatalities, their courage, dedication and sense of sacrifice, which brought about their early demise. It is a chronicle of a short period in the town's history that students will learn from and that, for others, will hopefully rekindle lost family memories. "I can only congratulate Joe on a quite remarkable achievement. This book will provide a permanent insight to this and future generations of the dark days our predecessors had to endure, the contribution they made to eventual victory and the freedoms we enjoy today." Richard Carew Pole. Bt. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Joe Plant was born in Crystal Palace London.
