Book excerpt: The Maverick coven holds a meeting pointedly for its two youngest and strangest members. Twin vampires that are adults trapped inside boyish bodies. Tristen and Lukas are to be formally melded into the family frame by way of an induction ceremony, one such event that Maliki believes will harm the family and put him in the line of danger. Maliki plots with one of his lovers as to how to handle the problem without either of them being fingered as the culprit. Together the couple decide to trick a local band of nameless rouge vampires into attacking on the night of the party and kill the twins before they can upset the balance. Jaquelin knows about the induction and has spoken to Jak about the twins becoming more instrumental to the family. Jak tells her that such will not be the case and they will remain mostly hidden from the outside world as they have been for their entire lives within the clan. Thinking the treatment unfair for the two vampires, she disobeys Jak and takes the twins into the town of Harding so that at least once in their lives they may taste freedom. During the visit Tristen breaks away on the streets and meets another vampire that calls himself Vincent Summerset and tells Tristen that he, the small weak undead, is his master and he wishes to serve him again. Before he can explain the vampire flees as he hears Luke and Jaquelin returning only leaving Tristen with a brass pin.
Book Synopsis One Soul at a Time by : Grant Wacker
Download or read book One Soul at a Time written by Grant Wacker and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2019-09-10 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christianity Today 2020 Book Award of Merit in History/Biography For more than five decades Billy Graham (1918-2018) ranked as one of the most influential voices in the Christian world. Nearly 215 million people around the world heard him preach in person or through live electronic media, almost certainly more than any other person. For millions, Graham was less a preacher than a Protestant saint. While remaining orthodox at the core, over time his approach on many issues became more irenic and progressive. And his preaching continued to resonate, propelled by his powerful promise of a second chance. Drawing on decades of research on Billy Graham and American evangelicalism, Grant Wacker has marshalled personal interviews, archival research, and never-before-published photographs from the Graham family and others to tell the remarkable story of one of the most celebrated Christians in American history. Where Wacker’s previous work on Graham, America’s Pastor, focused on the preacher’s relation to the nation’s culture, One Soul at a Time offers a sweeping, easy-to-read narrative of the life of the man himself.

Download or read book Soul Custody written by Stephen W. Smith and published by David C Cook. This book was released on 2012-11-08 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every day, inner and outer violence ravages the soul, leaving us weak, fearful, and malnourished. In Soul Custody, Stephen W. Smith presents eight choices to help readers reclaim custody of their one and only life—choices about silence, community, vocation, honoring the body, finding one’s true self, and more. As Smith reminds readers, allowing God to shape the soul leads to the deep, full, and satisfying life that God had in mind all along. This is not a self-help book. It is not a book of easy steps to a happy life. It is an invitation to the life God dreams for each of His children. It is a call to start living—to let the soul wake up to life as God intended.
Download or read book Soul Food written by Adrian Miller and published by UNC Press Books. This book was released on 2013-08-15 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 2014 James Beard Foundation Book Award, Reference and Scholarship Honor Book for Nonfiction, Black Caucus of the American Library Association In this insightful and eclectic history, Adrian Miller delves into the influences, ingredients, and innovations that make up the soul food tradition. Focusing each chapter on the culinary and social history of one dish--such as fried chicken, chitlins, yams, greens, and "red drinks--Miller uncovers how it got on the soul food plate and what it means for African American culture and identity. Miller argues that the story is more complex and surprising than commonly thought. Four centuries in the making, and fusing European, Native American, and West African cuisines, soul food--in all its fried, pork-infused, and sugary glory--is but one aspect of African American culinary heritage. Miller discusses how soul food has become incorporated into American culture and explores its connections to identity politics, bad health raps, and healthier alternatives. This refreshing look at one of America's most celebrated, mythologized, and maligned cuisines is enriched by spirited sidebars, photographs, and twenty-two recipes.

In fact, all the things people most desire in life--peace of mind, hope for tomorrow--are rooted in one simple thing: how they care for the health of their souls. In How's Your Soul?, Judah Smith explores the various facets and needs of the inner person, demonstrating that the path to cultivating healthy souls starts with discovering God’s original design. He helps readers find real peace and security by bringing their feelings into alignment with God’s truth, discover a healthy sense of identity from God and feel empowered to face the future with a new security and confidence, and learn the four elements necessary for a healthy soul environment.
