Download or read book Queen Mother written by Edward Sri and published by Emmaus Road Publishing. This book was released on 2015-02-13 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Queen Mother: A Biblical Theology of Mary's Queenship by Dr. Edward Sri sets out to explain the firm foundation of this dogma in Scripture and Tradition. As Pope Pius VII writes in Ad Caeli Reginam, in which he instituted the first Feast of the Queenship in October 1954: "The arguments on which Mary's queenly dignity is based have already been clearly set forth, and are to be found in ancient documents of the Church and in the books of the sacred liturgy." Based on Dr. Sri's doctoral dissertation, Queen Mother explores the role of the queen mother in the Davidic kingdom, examining the ways in which this theme sheds light on Mary's role as heavenly Queen and Mother of the Church. As he proceeds through the New Testament, Dr. Sri demonstrates the ultimate convergence of the queen-mother theme in the Gospels and the Book of Revelation. In his foreword to the book, Dr. Hahn reaffirms Mariology's potential "to gather the scattered disciplines by modeling an integrative, holistic approach-a biblical theology that integrates such seemingly diffuse and disparate fields as dogma, exegesis, and liturgy."

Download or read book Hail, Holy Queen written by Scott Hahn and published by Image. This book was released on 2006-09-19 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Essential reading for all Catholics! Bestselling author, Scott Hahn illuminates a fresh and enlightening perspective on Mary, Mother of God, and her central importance in the Christian faith. In The Lamb's Supper, Hahn explored the relationship between the Book of Revelation and the Roman Catholic Mass, deftly clarifying the most subtle of theological points with analogies and anecdotes from everyday life. In Hail, Holy Queen, he employs the same accessible, entertaining style to demonstrate Mary's essential role in Christianity's redemptive message. Most Christians know that the life of Jesus is foreshadowed throughout the Old Testament. Through a close examination of the Bible, as well as the work of both Catholic and Protestant scholars and clergy, Hahn brings to light the small but significant details showing that just as Jesus is the "New Adam," so Mary is the "New Eve." He unveils the Marian mystery at the heart of the Book of Revelation and reveals how it is foretold in the very first pages of the Book of Genesis and in the story of King David's monarchy, which speaks of a privileged place for the mother of the king. Building on these scriptural and historical foundations, Hahn presents a new look at the Marian doctrines: Her Immaculate Conception, Perpetual Virginity, Assumption, and Coronation. As he guides modern-day readers through passages filled with mysteries and poetry, Hahn helps them rediscover the ancient art and science of reading the Scriptures and gain a more profound understanding of their truthfulness and relevance to faith and the practice of religion in the contemporary world.

From the visions of Blessed Catherine Emmerich detailing how the Holy Mother lived and was assumed into Heaven to become our Eternal Queen, and +Brand new illustrations from Sequential Artist Jacob Rice +Study questions +Biography and +A Treatise on Catholic Theology and the Bible. The Glories of Mary is a classic of Mariology, written during the 18th century by Saint Alphonsus Liguori, the great Doctor of the Church. The book was written at a time when Jansenists criticized Marian devotions, and was written in part as a defense of Marian devotion. The book combines numerous citations in favor of devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary from the Church Fathers and the Doctors of the Church with Saint Alphonsus' own personal views on Marian veneration and includes a number of Marian prayers and practices. Part 1 focuses on the Salve Regina and explains how God gave Mary to mankind as the "Gate of Heaven". St. Alphonsus quotes Saint Bonaventure: "No one can enter Heaven unless by Mary, as though through a door." Part 2 deals with the key Marian feasts such as the Immaculate Conception, Nativity, Purification, Annunciation, Assumption, etc. Part 3 looks at the Seven Sorrows of Mary, explaining how her "prolonged martyrdom" was greater than that of all other martyrs. In part 4 fourth we discuss ten different virtues of the Blessed Virgin, while part 5 rounds out the work with a collection of prayers, meditations and devotions.
Book Synopsis The Coronation of the Blessed Virgin Mary by : Maureen Uche
Download or read book The Coronation of the Blessed Virgin Mary written by Maureen Uche and published by . This book was released on 2020-05-18 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Coronation of the Virgin or Coronation of Mary is a subject in Christian art, especially popular in Italy in the 13th to 15th centuries, but continuing in popularity until the 18th century and beyond. Christ, sometimes accompanied by God the Father and the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove, places a crown on the head of Mary as Queen of Heaven. In early versions the setting is a Heaven imagined as an earthly court, staffed by saints and angels; in later versions Heaven is more often seen as in the sky, with the figures seated on clouds. The subject is also notable as one where the whole Christian Trinity is often shown together, sometimes in unusual ways. Although crowned Virgins may be seen in Orthodox Christian icons, the coronation by the deity is not. Mary is sometimes shown, in both Eastern and Western Christian art, being crowned by one or two angels, but this is considered a different subject. The subject became common as part of a general increase in devotion to Mary in the Early Gothic period, and is one of the commonest subjects in surviving 14th-century Italian panel paintings, mostly made to go on a side-altar in a church. The great majority of Roman Catholic churches had (and have) a side-altar or "Lady chapel" dedicated to Mary. The subject is still often enacted in rituals or popular pageants called May crownings, although the crowning is performed by human figures. The belief in Mary as Queen of Heaven obtained the papal sanction of Pope Pius XII in his encyclical Ad Caeli Reginam (English: Queenship of Mary in Heaven) of October 11, 1954.[1][2] It is also the fifth Glorious Mystery of the Rosary. The Roman Catholic Church celebrates the feast every August 22, where it replaced the former octave of the Assumption of Mary in 1969, a move made by Pope Paul VI. The feast was formerly celebrated on May 31, at the end of the Marian month, where the present general calendar now commemorates the Feast of the Visitation. In addition, there are Canonical coronations authorized by the Pope which are given to specific Marian images venerated in a particular place. The Coronation of the Blessed Virgin Mary is the fifth of the Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary (following the Assumption, the fourth Glorious Mystery) and therefore the idea that the Virgin Mother of God was physically crowned as Queen of Heaven after her Assumption is a traditional Catholic belief echoed in the Rosary. This belief is now represented in the liturgical feast of the Queenship of Mary (August 22), that follows closely after the solemnity of the Assumption (August 15).
