This book was released on 2007-05-08 with total page 580 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a unified presentation that does not discriminate between atmospheric and space flight. It demonstrates that the two disciplines have evolved from the same set of physical principles and introduces a broad range of critical concepts in an accessible, yet mathematically rigorous presentation. The book presents many MATLAB and Simulink-based numerical examples and real-world simulations. Replete with illustrations, end-of-chapter exercises, and selected solutions, the work is primarily useful as a textbook for advanced undergraduate and beginning graduate-level students.
Book Synopsis Basic Research and Technologies for Two-Stage-to-Orbit Vehicles by : Dieter Jacob
Download or read book Basic Research and Technologies for Two-Stage-to-Orbit Vehicles written by Dieter Jacob and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2006-03-06 with total page 683 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Focusing on basic aspects of future reusable space transportation systems and covering overall design, aerodynamics, thermodynamics, flight dynamics, propulsion, materials, and structures, this report presents some of the most recent results obtained in these disciplines. The authors are members of three Collaborative Research Centers in Aachen, Munich and Stuttgart concerned with hypersonic vehicles. A major part of the research presented here deals with experimental and numerical aerodynamic topics ranging from low speed to hypersonic flow past the external configuration and through inlet and nozzle. Mathematicians and engineers jointly worked on aspects of flight mechanics like trajectory optimization, stability, control and flying qualities. Structural research and development was predominantly coupled to the needs for high temperature resistant structures for space vehicles.

Book Synopsis The New Rocket Science by : Edward Keith
Download or read book The New Rocket Science written by Edward Keith and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2010-07-12 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes a new type of rocket science needed to create low-cost, reliable, responsive space transportation. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to understand the issues explored within this book. The text is beyond the current state-of-the-art engineering of modern launch vehicles, going into a scientific investigation that opens the door to true design optimization. The purpose of this work is to enable the reader to understand how low-cost space transportation is practical, and why it has been so hard to achieve.

Book Synopsis An Investigation of the Optimum Design and Flight of Rockets by : John D. Bird
Download or read book An Investigation of the Optimum Design and Flight of Rockets written by John D. Bird and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analysis using classical variational methods was made whereby significant physical characteristics of rockets were determined in an optimal sense. A two-point boundary-value problem was formulated which, when solved, provided the significant physical parameters and flight path for a two-stage rocket which would deliver a given payload to orbit with minimum total initial mass. Numerical solutions were carried out for nine cases by an iterative method. The results show how the stage masses and thrusts should be proportioned for various structural efficiencies in the fuel tanks and rocket motors. Analyses of the type carried out for this investigation should be useful in the sizing and, generally, in the design of rockets.
