I constructed this theory by application of the Li- ville integro-differentiation. To some extent, it is similar to M.M.Djrbashian's factorization theory of the classes Na of functions of a-bounded type in the disc, as much as the well known results on different classes and spaces of regular functions in the half-plane are similar to those in the disc. Besides, the book contains improvements of several results such as the Phragmen-Lindelof Principle and Nevanlinna Factorization in the Half-Plane and offers a new, equivalent definition of the classical Hardy spaces in the half-plane. The last chapter of the book presents author's united work with G.M. Gubreev (Odessa). It gives an application of both a-theories in the disc and in the half-plane in the spectral theory of linear operators. This is a solution of a problem repeatedly stated by M.G.Krein and being of special interest for a long time. The book is proposed for a wide range of readers. Some of its parts are comprehensible for graduate students, while the book in the whole is intended for young researchers and qualified specialists in the field.

Hilbert spaces of analytic functions form one of the pillars of complex analysis. These spaces have a rich structure and for more than a century have been studied by many prominent mathematicians. They have essential applications in other fields of mathematics and engineering. The most important Hilbert space of analytic functions is the Hardy class H2. However, its close cousins—the Bergman space A2, the Dirichlet space D, the model subspaces Kt, and the de Branges-Rovnyak spaces H(b)—have also garnered attention in recent decades. Leading experts on function spaces gathered and discussed new achievements and future venues of research on analytic function spaces, their operators, and their applications in other domains. More explicitly, there were courses and workshops on Interpolation and Sampling, Riesz Bases, Frames and Signal Processing, Bounded Mean Oscillation, de Branges-Rovnyak Spaces, Blaschke Products and Inner Functions, and Convergence of Scattering Data and Non-linear Fourier Transform, among others. At the end of each week, there was a high-profile colloquium talk on the current topic. The program also contained two advanced courses on Schramm Loewner Evolution and Lattice Models and Reproducing Kernel Hilbert Space of Analytic Functions. Book excerpt: In this paper, the authors study matrix functions of bounded type from the viewpoint of describing an interplay between function theory and operator theory. They first establish a criterion on the coprime-ness of two singular inner functions and obtain several properties of the Douglas-Shapiro-Shields factorizations of matrix functions of bounded type. They propose a new notion of tensored-scalar singularity, and then answer questions on Hankel operators with matrix-valued bounded type symbols. They also examine an interpolation problem related to a certain functional equation on matrix functions of bounded type; this can be seen as an extension of the classical Hermite-Fejér Interpolation Problem for matrix rational functions. The authors then extend the H∞-functional calculus to an H∞¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯+H∞-functional calculus for the compressions of the shift. Next, the authors consider the subnormality of Toeplitz operators with matrix-valued bounded type symbols and, in particular, the matrix-valued version of Halmos's Problem 5 and then establish a matrix-valued version of Abrahamse's Theorem. They also solve a subnormal Toeplitz completion problem of 2×2 partial block Toeplitz matrices. Further, they establish a characterization of hyponormal Toeplitz pairs with matrix-valued bounded type symbols and then derive rank formulae for the self-commutators of hyponormal Toeplitz pairs.

Of course the famous invariant subspace problem asks whether or not T has any non-trivial invariant subspaces. This monograph is part of a long line of study of the invariant subspaces of the operator T = M (multiplication by the independent variable z, i. e. , M f = zf )on a z z Hilbert space of analytic functions on a bounded domain G in C. The characterization of these M -invariant subspaces is particularly interesting since it entails both the properties z of the functions inside the domain G, their zero sets for example, as well as the behavior of the functions near the boundary of G. The operator M is not only interesting in its z own right but often serves as a model operator for certain classes of linear operators. By this we mean that given an operator T on H with certain properties (certain subnormal operators or two-isometric operators with the right spectral properties, etc. ), there is a Hilbert space of analytic functions on a domain G for which T is unitarity equivalent to M .
