Download or read book Mathematical Topics in Fluid Mechanics written by Jose Francisco Rodrigues and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-09-30 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Research Note presents several contributions and mathematical studies in fluid mechanics, namely in non-Newtonian and viscoelastic fluids and on the Navier-Stokes equations in unbounded domains. It includes review of the mathematical analysis of incompressible and compressible flows and results in magnetohydrodynamic and electrohydrodynamic stability and thermoconvective flow of Boussinesq-Stefan type. These studies, along with brief communications on a variety of related topics comprise the proceedings of a summer course held in Lisbon, Portugal in 1991. Together they provide a set of comprehensive survey and advanced introduction to problems in fluid mechanics and partial differential equations.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the refereed proceedings of the conference on Nonlinear Partial Differential Equations, Dynamics and Continuum Physics which was held at Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts, from July 19th to July 23rd, 1998. Models examined derive from a wide range of applications, including elasticity, thermoviscoelasticity, granular media, fluid dynamics, gas dynamics and conservation laws. Mathematical topics include existence theory and stability/instability of traveling waves, asymptotic behavior of solutions to nonlinear wave equations, effects of dissipation, mechanisms of blow-up, well-posedness and regularity, and fractal solutions. The text will be of interest to graduate students and researchers working in nonlinear partial differential equations and applied mathematics.
Book Synopsis Nonlinear Hyperbolic Problems by : Claude Carasso
Download or read book Nonlinear Hyperbolic Problems written by Claude Carasso and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-15 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The field of nonlinear hyperbolic problems has been expanding very fast over the past few years, and has applications - actual and potential - in aerodynamics, multifluid flows, combustion, detonics amongst other. The difficulties that arise in application are of theoretical as well as numerical nature. In fact, the papers in this volume of proceedings deal to a greater extent with theoretical problems emerging in the resolution of nonlinear hyperbolic systems than with numerical methods. The volume provides an excellent up-to-date review of the current research trends in this area.

Book Synopsis Mathematical Theory of Evolutionary Fluid-Flow Structure Interactions by : Barbara Kaltenbacher
Download or read book Mathematical Theory of Evolutionary Fluid-Flow Structure Interactions written by Barbara Kaltenbacher and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-06-21 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to the study of coupled partial differential equation models, which describe complex dynamical systems occurring in modern scientific applications such as fluid/flow-structure interactions. The first chapter provides a general description of a fluid-structure interaction, which is formulated within a realistic framework, where the structure subject to a frictional damping moves within the fluid. The second chapter then offers a multifaceted description, with often surprising results, of the case of the static interface; a case that is argued in the literature to be a good model for small, rapid oscillations of the structure. The third chapter describes flow-structure interaction where the compressible Navier-Stokes equations are replaced by the linearized Euler equation, while the solid is taken as a nonlinear plate, which oscillates in the surrounding gas flow. The final chapter focuses on a the equations of nonlinear acoustics coupled with linear acoustics or elasticity, as they arise in the context of high intensity ultrasound applications.

Book Synopsis Mathematical Analysis of the Navier-Stokes Equations by : Matthias Hieber
Download or read book Mathematical Analysis of the Navier-Stokes Equations written by Matthias Hieber and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-04-28 with total page 471 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book collects together a unique set of articles dedicated to several fundamental aspects of the Navier–Stokes equations. As is well known, understanding the mathematical properties of these equations, along with their physical interpretation, constitutes one of the most challenging questions of applied mathematics. Indeed, the Navier-Stokes equations feature among the Clay Mathematics Institute's seven Millennium Prize Problems (existence of global in time, regular solutions corresponding to initial data of unrestricted magnitude). The text comprises three extensive contributions covering the following topics: (1) Operator-Valued H∞-calculus, R-boundedness, Fourier multipliers and maximal Lp-regularity theory for a large, abstract class of quasi-linear evolution problems with applications to Navier–Stokes equations and other fluid model equations; (2) Classical existence, uniqueness and regularity theorems of solutions to the Navier–Stokes initial-value problem, along with space-time partial regularity and investigation of the smoothness of the Lagrangean flow map; and (3) A complete mathematical theory of R-boundedness and maximal regularity with applications to free boundary problems for the Navier–Stokes equations with and without surface tension. Offering a general mathematical framework that could be used to study fluid problems and, more generally, a wide class of abstract evolution equations, this volume is aimed at graduate students and researchers who want to become acquainted with fundamental problems related to the Navier–Stokes equations.
