Book Synopsis Computational Acoustics of Noise Propagation in Fluids - Finite and Boundary Element Methods by : Steffen Marburg
Download or read book Computational Acoustics of Noise Propagation in Fluids - Finite and Boundary Element Methods written by Steffen Marburg and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-02-27 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book provides a survey of numerical methods for acoustics, namely the finite element method (FEM) and the boundary element method (BEM). It is the first book summarizing FEM and BEM (and optimization) for acoustics. The book shows that both methods can be effectively used for many other cases, FEM even for open domains and BEM for closed ones. Emphasis of the book is put on numerical aspects and on treatment of the exterior problem in acoustics, i.e. noise radiation.

Book Synopsis Computational Mechanics of Fluid-Structure Interaction by : Rajeev Kumar Jaiman
Download or read book Computational Mechanics of Fluid-Structure Interaction written by Rajeev Kumar Jaiman and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-11-29 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended to provide a compilation of the state-of-the-art numerical methods for nonlinear fluid-structure interaction using the moving boundary Lagrangian-Eulerian formulation. Single and two-phase viscous incompressible fluid flows are considered with the increasing complexity of structures ranging from rigid-body, linear elastic and nonlinear large deformation to fully-coupled flexible multibody system. This book is unique with regard to computational modeling of such complex fluid-structure interaction problems at high Reynolds numbers, whereby various coupling techniques are introduced and systematically discussed. The techniques are demonstrated for large-scale practical problems in aerospace and marine/offshore engineering. This book also provides a comprehensive understanding of underlying unsteady physics and coupled mechanical aspects of the fluid-structure interaction from a computational point of view. Using the body-fitted and moving mesh formulations, the physical insights associated with structure-to-fluid mass ratios (i.e., added mass effects), Reynolds number, large structural deformation, free surface, and other interacting physical fields are covered. The book includes the basic tools necessary to build the concepts required for modeling such coupled fluid-structure interaction problems, thus exposing the reader to advanced topics of multiphysics and multiscale phenomena.

The event was organized in a hybrid mode due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The 466 full and 18 short papers presented in these proceedings were carefully reviewed and selected from 1588 submissions. The books cover such topics as multicore architectures, mobile and wireless security, sensor networks, open source software, collaborative and social computing systems and tools, cryptography, human computer interaction, software design engineering, and others. Part I of the set follows two general tracks: computational methods, algorithms, and scientific applications; high performance computing and networks.
Book Synopsis Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian and Fluid-Structure Interaction by : M'hamed Souli
Download or read book Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian and Fluid-Structure Interaction written by M'hamed Souli and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-03-01 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides the fundamental basics for solving fluid structure interaction problems, and describes different algorithms and numerical methods used to solve problems where fluid and structure can be weakly or strongly coupled. These approaches are illustrated with examples arising from industrial or academic applications. Each of these approaches has its own performance and limitations. The added mass technique is described first. Following this, for general coupling problems involving large deformation of the structure, the Navier-Stokes equations need to be solved in a moving mesh using an ALE formulation. The main aspects of the fluid structure coupling are then developed. The first and by far simplest coupling method is explicit partitioned coupling. In order to preserve the flexibility and modularity that are inherent in the partitioned coupling, we also describe the implicit partitioned coupling using an iterative process. In order to reduce computational time for large-scale problems, an introduction to the Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD) technique applied to FSI problems is also presented. To extend the application of coupling problems, mathematical descriptions and numerical simulations of multiphase problems using level set techniques for interface tracking are presented and illustrated using specific coupling problems. Given the book's comprehensive coverage, engineers, graduate students and researchers involved in the simulation of practical fluid structure interaction problems will find this book extremely useful.

Book Synopsis Incompressible Flow and the Finite Element Method, Volume 1 by : P. M. Gresho
Download or read book Incompressible Flow and the Finite Element Method, Volume 1 written by P. M. Gresho and published by Wiley. This book was released on 2000-06-22 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive two-volume reference covers the application of the finite element method to incompressible flows in fluid mechanics, addressing the theoretical background and the development of appropriate numerical methods applied to their solution. Volume One provides extensive coverage of the prototypical fluid mechanics equation: the advection-diffusion equation. For both this equation and the equations of principal interest - the Navier-Stokes equations (covered in detail in Volume Two) - a discussion of both the continuous and discrete equations is presented, as well as explanations of how to properly march the time-dependent equations using smart implicit methods. Boundary and initial conditions, so important in applications, are carefully described and discussed, including well-posedness. The important role played by the pressure, so confusing in the past, is carefully explained. The book explains and emphasizes consistency in six areas: * consistent mass matrix * consistent pressure Poisson equation * consistent penalty methods * consistent normal direction * consistent heat flux * consistent forces Fully indexed and referenced, this book is an essential reference tool for all researchers, students and applied scientists in incompressible fluid mechanics.
Book Synopsis A Relationship Between Stabilized Finite Element Methods and the Galerkin Method with Bubble Functions by : Institut National de Recherche en Informatique et en Automatique
Download or read book A Relationship Between Stabilized Finite Element Methods and the Galerkin Method with Bubble Functions written by Institut National de Recherche en Informatique et en Automatique and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: "A relation between stabilized finite element methods and the Galerkin method employing interpolations with bubble functions is established for the advective-diffusive model and for the linearized compressible Navier-Stokes equations. The bubble functions are shown to help in stabilizing the advective operator without recourse to upwinding or any other numerical strategy. In particular, for the advective-diffusive model, the Galerkin method employing piecewise linears with bubble functions is shown to be equivalent to the Streamline-Upwind/Petrov- Galerkin (SUPG) method in the diffusive limit."
