Book Synopsis You Forgot the Sauce by : G. S. Willmott
Download or read book You Forgot the Sauce written by G. S. Willmott and published by Garry Willmott. This book was released on 2018-10-01 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Garry Willmott will donate ten per cent of all royalties from the sales of both the paperback and e-book to an appropriate charity supporting dementia research. Donations will be distributed to the country where the sales originated from. This story brings life the anguish of those people, young and old, suffering the consequences of Alzheimer's disease. It is a story that illuminates many factual aspects of the nature of this illness while fictionally bringing us into the lives of those transformed by its devastating effects. The author has created sympathetic and credible characters whose plights we share as they confront the ways in which this tragic illness affects not only those directly stricken but also their close relatives and friends. The carefully constructed narrative shows vividly how the disease can strike anyone: Rob, a successful young medical researcher with a promising career; his mother, a respected lawyer with a life of achievement, and all those within their immediate orbit are changed utterly by the onset of this disease. There are many subsidiary contemporary elements introduced by the engaging narrative. Gay relationships, for example, are represented positively and respectfully so that we see gay couples living faithful, loving and socially acceptable lives. The author also implies some of the dangers inherent in placing too much faith in the contemporary (and often exploitative) trent to online relationships. There are tragedies and triumphs in this tight and suspenseful narrative. It is an 'emotional roller-coaster', both poignant and uplifting. It is also a compelling read. Two gentlemen were sharing a house together after both their wives had died; both suffered dementia. One of them, Harry, asked his housemate Frank if he wanted anything up at the shops. "Why would I bother Harry? You'll forget by the time you get out the back door." "No, don't be silly, of course I'll remember. I'm feeling good today." "Ok, do you know those ice-creams that have a chocolate flake sticking out of it?" "Yeah!" "Well I want one of them." "Ok, done." "What did I ask for?" "You want one of those ice-creams that have a chocolate flake sticking out of it." "Seeing you remembered that, I want hundreds and thousands sprinkled over the whole lot. Oh forget it, you'll never remember." "I will, I promise." Harry left the house to walk the one kilometre to the shops; three hours later he returned and plonked a brown paper bag down on the kitchen table. "There's your pie." Frank looked inside the bag. "For god's sake, you forgot the sauce!"

Book excerpt: In Reset, author Timothy Benson offers contemporary stories of ordinary people who encounter unexplainable and life-altering situations, often of their own making. Unprepared for the things they face, they struggle to change the course of events before they reach the point of no return. In Whatever You Say, a young mans journey toward a new start begins with a white lie. The lie leads to another, then another, until the mans real identity starts to blur with a new persona that threatens to ruin his plans. An incredible string of luck makes a businessmans life seem too good to be true in Way North of Lucky. He soon realizes his good fortune has a negative and dangerous effect on everyone around him, leading to a frightening conclusion about his future. The Almost Life of Leonard Paduszka tells the story of three imaginative young people who concoct a scheme to create a fake person. The plan succeeds beyond their expectations, until a homeless man gives their faux man more reality than they intended. The Bandit and the Barista recounts the story of a man whose gambling addiction leads him to plan a crime that, at first, seems foolproof. When his plan to temporarily blame a total stranger goes awry, he scrambles to save both the innocent mans future and his own. Rich in visual imagery, memorable, offbeat characters, and dark humor, the stories in Reset offer a view of the often strange and dangerous ways ordinary people navigate through modern culture.

Download or read book Aftermath written by Duane L. Martin and published by Duane L. Martin. This book was released on 2023-05-23 with total page 626 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: They'd come so close to being wiped entirely out of existence when Gerald informed them that he was going to be removing them all from the sim, but Jarrod's foresight, suffering, and self-sacrifice saved them from that fate when he used the sim to kill Gerald by overloading his neural interface. Coming that close to death gives you a whole new perspective on life, so after a celebratory party that left everyone but Jarrod with a nasty hangover, they began to experience their lives with a new appreciation and vigor. This took many forms, depending on the person. Some launched themselves into a whole new slew of practical jokes, some took a well-deserved vacation, and yet others focused on new projects that would give their lives added meaning. As for Jarrod, not only does he find some very special ways to make the people he loves happy, but he and Derek start a project of their own, creating a porch swing for his house on Genesis. It may seem like a small thing, but to them, their little project was more special than anyone could imagine. Aftermath is a slice of life look at the people you've grown to love throughout the series, and now that they no longer have to worry about their own survival, who knows what adventures await them in the future? Only time will tell, and thanks to Jarrod, their time has become limitless. Aftermath is the 22nd book in the Unseen Things series.
