Book Synopsis Offshore Oil and Gas Production Waste Characteristics, Treatment Methods, Biological Effects, and Their Applications to Canadian Regions by : Arctic Laboratories Ltd
Download or read book Offshore Oil and Gas Production Waste Characteristics, Treatment Methods, Biological Effects, and Their Applications to Canadian Regions written by Arctic Laboratories Ltd and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report examines wastes which are generated at offshore oiland gas production platforms and discharged on-site ortransported to shore for treatment and disposal. The review ofliterature and industry practice deals with three U.S. offshoreproducing regions: Gulf of Mexico, California coast and CookInlet, Alaska; and, the U.K. and Norwegian sectors of the NorthSea producing fields. The results of this review and evaluationhave been applied to three Canadian offshore regions withpotential for production of oil and gas; namely, the ScotianShelf, Grand Banks and Beaufort Sea. Current discharge anddisposal practices for all wastes are described for each region. Technical and cost evaluations of alternative methods fordisposal of produced water and drilling fluids and cuttings arepresented. Marine discharge regulations used in the offshorehyudrocarbon production areas of Norway, the United Kingdom andthe United States are presented. The report also gives acomparison of international conventions with legislation for oiland gas production, for various wastes. Conclusions andrecommendations formulated collectively by the principal authorsof the report are presented.

Download or read book Deep Water: The Gulf Oil Disaster and the Future of Offshore Drilling: Report to the President, January 2011 written by National Commission on the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill and Offshore Dril and published by Government Printing Office. This book was released on 2011-05-24 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On April 20, 2010, the Macondo well blew out, costing the lives of 11 men, and beginning a catastrophe that sank the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig and spilled nearly 5 million barrels of crude oil into the Gulf of Mexico. The spill disrupted an entire region’s economy, damaged fisheries and critical habitats, and brought vividly to light the risks of deepwater drilling for oil and gas—the latest frontier in the national energy supply. Soon after, President Barack Obama appointed a seven-member Commission to investigate the disaster, analyze its causes and effects, and recommend the actions necessary to minimize such risks in the future. The Commission’s report offers the American public and policymakers alike the fullest account available of what happened in the Gulf and why, and proposes actions—changes in company behavior, reform of government oversight, and investments in research and technology—required as industry moves forward to meet the nation’s energy needs.

Book Synopsis Environmental Control in Petroleum Engineering by : DR. John C. Reis Ph.D.
Download or read book Environmental Control in Petroleum Engineering written by DR. John C. Reis Ph.D. and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1996-04-25 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The petroleum industry must minimize the environmental impact of its various operations. This extensively researched book assembles a tremendous amount of practical information to help reduce and control the environmental consequences of producing and processing petroleum and natural gas.The best way to treat pollution is not to create it in the first place. This book shows you how to plan and manage production activities to minimize and even eliminate some environmental problems without severely disrupting operations. It focuses on ways to treat drilling and production wastes to reduce toxicity and/or volume before their ultimate disposal. You'll also find methods for safely transporting toxic materials from the upstream petroleum industry away from their release sites. For those sites already contaminated with petroleum wastes, this book reviews the remedial technologies available. Other topics include United States federal environmental regulations, sensitive habitats, major U.S. chemical waste exchanges, and offshore releases of oil.Environmental Control in Petroleum Engineering is essential for industry personnel with little or no training in environmental issues as well as petroleum engineering students.
Book Synopsis Pollution Prevention Opportunities in the Offshore Oil and Gas Sector by : Dillon Consulting
Download or read book Pollution Prevention Opportunities in the Offshore Oil and Gas Sector written by Dillon Consulting and published by [Calgary] : Environmental Studies Research Funds. This book was released on 2004 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. The document identifies current practices already followed or designed into projects and future opportunities that may become technologically & economically feasible. It also discusses other opportunities for pollution prevention or examples not within those five priorities, such as slender well design and carbon dioxide injection, along with case studies of their application.
