Book Synopsis L' Arc-en-ciel de Vincent / Vincent's Rainbow by : Oui Love Books
Download or read book L' Arc-en-ciel de Vincent / Vincent's Rainbow written by Oui Love Books and published by Odéon Livre. This book was released on with total page 33 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume combines Vincent van Gogh's love for painting and the French language in a work that can entertain and educate parents and children alike. Even-sided pages have the original painting, plus a sentence in each language describing the scene. On the odd-sided pages, thumbnails of the work can be found with hues separated. For instance, "Starry Night" has three thumbnails: yellow for the stars, blue for the sky, and green for the foliage. The selection of paintings includes "Starry Night", "Bedroom in Arles", "The Night Café", and more. Most of the paintings were done during Vincent's years in France, a period that gave us the spellbinding style for which he is known to this day. Color, language, and imagination come together in "Vincent".

Book Synopsis Van Gogh’s Cypresses by : Susan Alyson Stein
Download or read book Van Gogh’s Cypresses written by Susan Alyson Stein and published by Metropolitan Museum of Art. This book was released on 2023-05-15 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890) immortalized the cypress tree in signature images that have become synonymous with his fiercely original power of expression. This richly illustrated publication illuminates the backstory of his invention for the first time, from his initial investigations of the motif in benchmark drawings from Arles to his realization of their full evocative potential in such iconic canvases as The Starry Night and Wheat Field with Cypresses, painted at the asylum in Saint-Rémy. Susan Alyson Stein retraces the Dutch artist’s inspired response to the flamelike evergreens as they gained ground in his works and artistic thinking over the course of his sojourn in the South of France. The volume provides further insight into Van Gogh’s creative process through a technical study focused on two celebrated works from the artist’s epic painting campaign of June 1889. The visual and literary heritage of the cypresses is featured in a compilation of images and excerpts from nineteenth-century poetry, novels, and travel writing — many translated into English for the first time.

Book Synopsis Van Gogh Landscapes by : Cristina Berna

Book excerpt: Vincent Van Gogh (1853 – 1890) is often mentioned as one of the best examples of Japonism, Western art inspired by Japanese art. Van Gogh was infatuated with a vision of Japanese art. He experienced this mainly from Japanese woodblock prints which became widely available after Commodore Matthew Perry forced Japan to open with the Convention of Kanagawa in 1854 after abt 250 years of seclusion. Van Gogh and his brother Theo dealt in these prints for a while and Van Gogh´s studio was literally plastered with them. Van Gogh vision of Japan was a mythical fantasy, an ideal for the artist, and he even tried to establish an artist´s colony to live out this dream. Japan, on the other hand, and especially the woodblock print artists, were inspired by earlier Dutch engraved prints, which had a profound influence on artists like Katsushika Hokusai from abt 1800. It was from these prints Western perspective entered into Japanese art. In the period from abt 1800 to 1850 Japanese prints evolved with Hokusai´s 36 Views of Mt Fuji and became the inspiration that met painters like van Gogh. In a way, what these Western artists saw, was a Japanese mirror of their own processed artistic tradition.
