Book Synopsis Communicating Process Architectures 2005 by : J.F. Broenink
Download or read book Communicating Process Architectures 2005 written by J.F. Broenink and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2005-09-09 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The awareness of the ideas characterized by Communicating Processes Architecture and their adoption by industry beyond their traditional base in safety-critical systems and security is growing. The complexity of modern computing systems has become so great that no one person – maybe not even a small team – can understand all aspects and all interactions. The only hope of making such systems work is to ensure that all components are correct by design and that the components can be combined to achieve scalability. A crucial property is that the cost of making a change to a system depends linearly on the size of that change – not on the size of the system being changed. Of course, this must be true whether that change is a matter of maintenance (e.g. to take advantage of upcoming multiprocessor hardware) or the addition of new functionality. One key is that system composition (and disassembly) introduces no surprises. A component must behave consistently, no matter the context in which it is used – which means that component interfaces must be explicit, published and free from hidden side-effect. This publication offers strongly refereed high-quality papers covering many differing aspects: system design and implementation (for both hardware and software), tools (concurrent programming languages, libraries and run-time kernels), formal methods and applications.
Book Synopsis Scientific Software Systems by : J. C. Mason
Download or read book Scientific Software Systems written by J. C. Mason and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main aim of this book is to present a broader view of scientific software than has been common in the past. The provision of scientific software is no longer a matter of just writing 'good computer programs', but rather it is concerned with the development of an integrated software system wI-,ich offers the user facilities which approach all that he needs in terms of speed, accuracy and convenience. This means that due account must, for example, be taken of the high-speed computing capabilities of parallel processors, the exact computing features of symbolic mathematical systems, the presentational potentialities of computer graphics, and the advisory aspects of knowledge-based and expert systems. When suites of numerical software programs or routines are supported by such ranges of facilities, then they can be justly described as 'scientific software systems', and that is why we have adopted such a title here. The assembly of this book was a direct consequence of the running of a one-day international symposium, with the same broad aim of advocating a 'systems approach', under the title 'Scientific Software and Systems'. This Symposium was held at the Royal Military College of Science (RMCS) in Shrivenham on July 11, 1988 and was attended by 85 people. A very busy but most enjoyable day included invited talks, poster presentations and demonstrations of software products, not to mention various social activi ties.

Book Synopsis Modelling And Simulation Of Robot Manipulators: A Parallel Processing Approach by : Albert Y Zomaya
Download or read book Modelling And Simulation Of Robot Manipulators: A Parallel Processing Approach written by Albert Y Zomaya and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 1993-01-29 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims to describe how parallel computer architectures can be used to enhance the performance of robots, and their great impact on future generations of robots. It provides an in-depth, consistent and rigorous treatment of the topic. A clear definition of tools with results is given which can be applied to parallel processing for robot kinematics and dynamics. Another advantageous feature is that the algorithms presented have been implemented using a parallel processing system, unlike many publications in the field which have presented results in only theoretical terms. This book also includes “benchmark” results that can be used for the development of future work, or can serve as a basis for comparison with other work. In addition, it surveys useful material to aid readers in pursuing further research.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume consists of the proceedings of the 1st International Conference on Grid Services Engineering and Management (GSEM 2004)that washeld in c- junction with the 5th International Conference Net. ObjectDays 2004 (NODE 2004) and the European Conference on Web Services 2004 (ECOWS 2004) in Erfurt, Germany on 27-30 September 2004. The Grid has emerged as a global platform to support on-demand virtual organizations for coordinated sharing of distributed data, applications and p- cesses. Service orientation of the Grid also makes it a promising platform for seamlessanddynamicdevelopment, integrationanddeploymentofservice-ori- ted applications. The application components can be discovered, composed and delivered within a Grid of services, which are loosely coupled to create dynamic business processes and agile applications spanning organizations and comp- ing platforms. The technologies contributing to such grids of services include Web services, the semantic Web, grid computing, component softwareand agent technologies. The GSEM 2004 conference provided an international forum for presenting thelatesttheoreticalandpracticalresultsintechnologysolutionsforengineering and management of Grid services and service-oriented applications. The conf- ence aimed at bringing together researchersand practitioners from diverse?elds and interests, including Web services, the semantic Web, Grid infrastructures, software components, work?ows, agent technologies and service management, and those looking for new business and research cooperation opportunities in the area of Grid services and service-oriented applications.

Book Synopsis Supercomputational Science by : R.G. Evans
Download or read book Supercomputational Science written by R.G. Evans and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In contemporary research, the supercomputer now ranks, along with radio telescopes, particle accelerators and the other apparatus of "big science", as an expensive resource, which is nevertheless essential for state of the art research. Supercomputers are usually provided as shar.ed central facilities. However, unlike, telescopes and accelerators, they are find a wide range of applications which extends across a broad spectrum of research activity. The difference in performance between a "good" and a "bad" computer program on a traditional serial computer may be a factor of two or three, but on a contemporary supercomputer it can easily be a factor of one hundred or even more! Furthermore, this factor is likely to increase with future generations of machines. In keeping with the large capital and recurrent costs of these machines, it is appropriate to devote effort to training and familiarization so that supercomputers are employed to best effect. This volume records the lectures delivered at a Summer School held at The Coseners House in Abingdon, which was an attempt to disseminate research methods in the different areas in which supercomputers are used. It is hoped that the publication of the lectures in this form will enable the experiences and achievements of supercomputer users to be shared with a larger audience. We thank all the lecturers and participants for making the Summer School an enjoyable and profitable experience. Finally, we thank the Science and Engineering Research Council and The Computer Board for supporting the Summer School.
Book Synopsis Morphological Image Processing: Architecture and VLSI design by : P.P. Jonker
Download or read book Morphological Image Processing: Architecture and VLSI design written by P.P. Jonker and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Summary Based on the experiences of past designs and the outcome of recent studies in the comparisons of low-level image processing architectures, a pipelined system for real time low-image processing has been designed and realized in CMOS technology. To minimize design pitfalls, a study was performed to the details of the design solutions that have been found in embodimentsof the three main architectural groups of image processing; the Square Processor Arrays, the Linear Processor Arrays and the Pipelines. This is reflected in a theoretical model. As the design is based on bitplane-wise processing of images, research was performed on the principles ofCellularLogic Processing of two dimensional images. of binary A methodology has been developed that is based on the transformation images using sets of Hit-or-Miss masks. This method appeared to be extendable to higher dimensional images. A theoretical model for the generation of break-point conditions in high dimensional images has been developed, and applied up to dimension three.
