Book Synopsis Basic and Clinical Anatomy of the Spine, Spinal Cord, and ANS - E-Book by : Gregory D. Cramer
Download or read book Basic and Clinical Anatomy of the Spine, Spinal Cord, and ANS - E-Book written by Gregory D. Cramer and published by Elsevier Health Sciences. This book was released on 2005-05-25 with total page 666 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This one-of-a-kind text describes the specific anatomy and neuromusculoskeletal relationships of the human spine, with special emphasis on structures affected by manual spinal techniques. A comprehensive review of the literature explores current research of spinal anatomy and neuroanatomy, bringing practical applications to basic science. A full chapter on surface anatomy includes tables for identifying vertebral levels of deeper anatomic structures, designed to assist with physical diagnosis and treatment of pathologies of the spine, as well as evaluation of MRI and CT scans. High-quality, full-color illustrations show fine anatomic detail. Red lines in the margins draw attention to items of clinical relevance, clearly relating anatomy to clinical care. Spinal dissection photographs, as well as MRIs and CTs, reinforce important anatomy concepts in a clinical context. Revisions to all chapters reflect an extensive review of current literature. New chapter on the pediatric spine discusses the unique anatomic changes that take place in the spine from birth through adulthood, as well as important clinical ramifications. Over 170 additional illustrations and photos enhance and support the new information covered in this edition.
Book Synopsis An Introduction to the Study of the Nervous System by : E. E. Hewer
Download or read book An Introduction to the Study of the Nervous System written by E. E. Hewer and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An Introduction to the Study of the Nervous System covers topics about the minute structure and functions of the nervous system. The book discusses the minute and gross anatomy of the various parts of the nervous system; the degenerative and regenerative changes following section of the nerves; and the descending and ascending tracts of the spinal cord. The text then describes the cerebellar connections; the deep connections of the cranial nerves; and the microscopic structure of the cortex of the cerebellum and of the cerebrum. The distribution, source, circulation and absorption, pressure, and normal composition of the cerebrospinal fluid and the parts and functions of the autonomic nervous system are also considered. The book further tackles the normal physiology of the sensory and motor paths; the results of interference with the general sensory path at various levels; and the visual path and interference therewith. The text also discusses the cochlear and olfactory paths and the interference therewith and the levels of integration and mechanism of coordinated muscular movement. Students taking courses related to neurology will find the book useful.
Book Synopsis Development of the Human Spinal Cord by : Joseph Altman
Download or read book Development of the Human Spinal Cord written by Joseph Altman and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2001 with total page 566 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There exists a wealth of information about the development of the spinal cord in journal articles and monographs, yet this beautifully illustrated work is the first book devoted to this important topic. Because the developing human spinal cord cannot be subjected to experimental manipulations, the knowledge gained from experimental work in animals is applied here to an interpretation of the time course and mechanisms of spinal cord development in man. The book begins with a review of our current understanding of the structure and functions of the spinal cord. Special reference is made to the phylogeny of the vertebrate spinal cord because the authors' interpretation of the development and organization of the human spinal cord is specifically an evolutionary one. Following a detailed experiment-based account of spinal cord development in the rat, the development of the human spinal cord is described, illustrated and interpreted in separate chapters during three epochs: the first trimester (the embryonic period), the second and third trimesters (the fetal period), and the first year of postnatal life. Special attention is paid to such topics as neurons, and the growth and myelination of the ascending and descending fiber tracts of the spinal cord. The book ends with a correlation of the development of motor behavior with different stages in the morphological development of the human spinal cord during the embryonic, fetal, and postnatal periods. The successive acquisition of voluntary control over different parts of the body during infancy is correlated with the progressive myelination of the corticospinal tract. * The book contains an extensive review of work on spinal cord organization and development throughout the 20th century. * The interpretations are based on experimental studies of spinal cord development in the rat carried out by the authors and their associates. * The histological material on human spinal cord development is the largest ever assembled and reproduced (combining the Carnegie, Minot, and Yakovlev Collections). * The collected material (which varies in quality and some of it has begun to fade) has been digitized and electronically reprocessed for improved reproduction. * Discrete components of the spinal cord and new developments are highlighted by color coding; typically on one side only, leaving the contralateral side untouched to allow the reader to use his own interpretation. * Summary graphs are presented, many in color, to convey important structural relationships, developmental events, or theories. * The authors revive a few forgotten theories and offer several new ones regarding the development and organization of the human spinal cord. Development of the Human Spinal Cord will be of interest to developmental biologists, neuroscientists, embryologists, molecular biologists (those working on stem cell research), pediatric neurologists, pathologists, child and developmental psychologists, and their students and trainees
Book Synopsis Neuroanesthesia and Cerebrospinal Protection by : Hiroyuki Uchino
Download or read book Neuroanesthesia and Cerebrospinal Protection written by Hiroyuki Uchino and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-08-07 with total page 697 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a knowledge-based text that covers the anatomy, neurophysiology, and neuropharmacology needed to carry out the necessary management and cerebrospinal protection during neuroanesthesia. Especially to make the subject of neuroanesthesia more approachable, we introduce surgical measures utilized in neurosurgery, cardiovascular surgery, neuromodulation, and related procedures. The main purpose of neuroanesthesia/neurocritical care is to deliver cerebrospinal protection in neurosurgical and cardiovascular surgeries. How should we select the best anesthetic management to prevent neurological complications for patients who, for instance, undergo different types of surgery for subarachnoid hemorrhage, stroke, head trauma, carotid endarterectomy, or cardiovascular surgery under cardiopulmonary bypass? These pathological conditions include the risk of transient cerebrospinal ischemia, and if our management is not precise, it may induce serious neurological sequelae. Although there is an urgent need to establish the treatment and elucidate the molecular mechanisms of cerebrospinal injury, many components are intertwined, making this a challenge we have not completely solved yet. This volume makes the management of neuroanesthesia more accessible not only for primary residents but also for specialists, providing a valuable resource on the current perspectives of neuroanesthesia.
