Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Object of Balance is a fantasy about nine little fairies who find themselves embarking on a great quest through hostile lands to save their world, Andel. It is a race against time. They must find one of the objects the great wizards were using to keep everyone in their world safe. It has been stolen from the wizards, and it must be found and brought back before it is too late. What the creature that stole the object didnt know was that the object was keeping something even more evil back. Without the object, their world will become riddled with all the storms the elements can throw at them. It is not all bad. The fairies do find that through their travels, they meet many new creatures who become their friends and allies. Well, with the fate of the world in the balance, wouldnt you be willing to help? When the wizards told the fairies they had to go and get the object back, they were shocked. How could nine little fairies possibly do this? The object itself was bigger than all of them put together! The wizards told them they had to; there was no choice. The wizards could not go as they had to stay and hold the other evil at bay until the object was put back into its place. Still, the fairies worried but did as they were told. They would find a way! Object of Balance is a warm and wonderful tale full to the brim with many different characters that I hope everyone of all ages will love. There are ferocious dragons, a giant as tall as a mountain, ogres, witches, trolls, and so many others. It is family oriented, and it has many lessons to be learned. Enjoy!

Book excerpt: Power up your Python with object-oriented programming and learn how to write powerful, efficient, and re-usable code. Object-Oriented Python is an intuitive and thorough guide to mastering object-oriented programming from the ground up. You’ll cover the basics of building classes and creating objects, and put theory into practice using the pygame package with clear examples that help visualize the object-oriented style. You’ll explore the key concepts of object-oriented programming — encapsulation, polymorphism, and inheritance — and learn not just how to code with objects, but the absolute best practices for doing so. Finally, you’ll bring it all together by building a complex video game, complete with full animations and sounds. The book covers two fully functional Python code packages that will speed up development of graphical user interface (GUI) programs in Python.

The twin features of this language, namely, procedure-oriented and object-oriented programming, have been brought out in a very crisp manner. The book intends to remove the fear of 'containers' from the minds of programmers and enable them to use the concept unambiguously and effectively. More than 200 programs have been included in the book after ensuring their correctness with standard C++ compatible compilers, such as gnu g++ and Code::Blocks. This student-friendly book has no prerequisites and contains all that is needed to make the undergraduate and post-graduate students expert C++ programmers. It will be a boon to a novice as well as an experienced programmer. SALIENT FEATURES • More than 200 tested programs • More than 300 objective-type questions • Review questions at the end of every chapter • Includes chapters on multithreading, STL and exception handling, and an annexure on object-oriented analysis and design • Model question papers

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was originally written to support an introductory course in Object Orientation through the medium of Smalltalk (and VisualWorks in particular). However, it can be used as a book to teach the reader Smalltalk, to introduce object orientation as well as present object oriented design and analysis. It takes as its basic premise that most Computer Scientists I Software Engineers learn best by doing rather than from theoretical notes. The chapters therefore attempt to introduce concepts by getting you the reader to do things, rather than by extensive theoretical discussions. This means that these chapters take a hands-on approach to the subject and assume that the student/reader has a suitable Small talk environment available to them. The chapters are listed below and are divided into six parts. The reader is advised to work through Parts 1 and 3 thoroughly in order to gain a detailed understanding of object orientation. Part 2 then provides an introduction to the Smalltalk environment and language. Other chapters may then be dipped into as required. For example, if the reader wishes to hone their Smalltalk skills then the chapters in Part 4 would be useful. However, if at that point they wish to get on and discover the delights of graphical user interfaces in Smalltalk, then Part 5 could be read next. Part 6 presents some more advances subjects such as metaclasses and concurrency which are not required for straight forward Small talk development.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using Winnicott’s classic paper as its starting point, this fascinating collection explores a range of clinical and theoretical psychoanalytic perspectives around relating to "the object." Each author approaches the topic from a different angle, switching among the patient’s use of others in their internal and external lives, their use of their therapist, and the therapist’s own use of their patients. The use of objects is susceptible to wide interpretation and elaboration; it is both a normal phenomenon and a marker for certain personal difficulties, or even psychopathologies, seen in clinical practice. While it is normal for people to relate to others through the lens of their internal objects in ways that give added meaning to aspects of their lives, it becomes problematic when people live as if devoid of a self and instead live almost exclusively through the others who form their internal worlds, often leading them to feel that they cannot be happy until and unless others change. Assessing the significance of objects among adult and child patients, groups and the group-as-object, and exploring Freud’s own use of objects, The Use of the Object in Psychoanalysis will be of significant interest both to experienced psychoanalysts and psychotherapists and to trainees exploring important theoretical questions.
