Book excerpt: For those of you who have read or saw the movie "Grapes of Wrath," this book will give you a different spin on how a devoted Christian family faced the same devastating times in the 1930's. This is a tender and endearing story of a young couple, united in love and purpose and with God's help endured and overcame desperate times and provided an Oasis of Hope to thousands in need. Don spent most of his adult life encapsulated in the materialistic infrastructure of corporate America. He majored in chemistry and physics and after graduation served as a chemical, biological and radiological staff officer in the military. After Military service he spent most of his career in the Aerospace, Computer Integration and Telecommunication Industries. He is the recipient of two patent awards and published several technical papers. He never had any journalistic ambitions, or an urge to write, until he surrendered his life to Jesus Christ. Over the past ten years Don has served in many church positions, but his favorite has always been evangelism. About ten years ago Don started writing devotional papers to friends and family. After several months he was ask to write for four churches and an International Christian publication. People seemed to like his simplistic and conversational style of devotions. Don met his wife, Darla, while attending the University of Oklahoma. They have been blessed with three wonderful children and five grandchildren.

Book Synopsis Oasis of Dreams by : Grace Feuerverger
Download or read book Oasis of Dreams written by Grace Feuerverger and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-08-21 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Neve Shalom/Wahat Al-Salam (the Hebrew and Arabic words for Oasis of Peace) is a community founded by Jews and Palestinians that is aimed at demonstrating the possibilities for living in peace while maintaining their respective cultural heritages and languages. The village schools represent a unique educational experience: an opportunity for Jewish and Palestinian children to learn together in a Hebrew-Arabic bilingual, bicultural, binational setting. This book, a result of the author's nine year study of the schools in the village, explores the psychological and social dimensions of this important educational endeavor. Award-winning author Grace Feuerverger explores teaching and learning in schools as a sacred life journey, a quest toward liberation. Written for teacher/educators who wish to make a real difference in the lives of their students, this book speaks to everyone who finds themselves, as she did, on winding and often treacherous paths, longing to discover the meaning and potential in their professional lives at school. A child of Holocaust survivors, Feuerverger wrote this book to tell how schools can be transformed into magical places where miracles happen. In an era of narrow agendas of 'efficiency' and 'control', this book dares to suggest that education is and should always be about uplifting the human spirit.
Download or read book Real Power written by Janet O. Hagberg and published by Waveland Press. This book was released on 2024-09-19 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Janet O. Hagberg has written a dynamic book about power — real, personal power —for forward-looking people in organizations who want to harness their own power for the common good. “I wrote this book,” says Hagberg, “to transform the way we think about power and leadership. It takes people on a journey beyond achievement and success to a stance in which power comes from their inner core and they lead from their souls.” There is no doubt that the world is ready for a renaissance in leadership. In this fourth edition, Janet Hagberg addresses what Real Power looked like during two of the most horrific experiences of this century; the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic and George Floyd’s heinous murder. She outlines which behaviors depict each power stage during and after those experiences and invites readers to see themselves in honest reflections, by how they reacted and what evolved in their own lives. Then she tops it all off with a simple yet profound idea we can all use to make positive change for the greater good, in large or in very small ways. She calls it “wiggling the web.”

Book Synopsis The Cancer Whisperer by : Sophie Sabbage
Download or read book The Cancer Whisperer written by Sophie Sabbage and published by Hachette UK. This book was released on 2016-03-10 with total page 165 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'I have cancer. Cancer does not have me.' Sophie Sabbage was diagnosed with late stage 'incurable' lung cancer in October 2014. She was 48 years old, happily married with a 4-year-old daughter. Since that day - when doctors told Sophie that her prognosis was poor - she has been on a remarkable journey of healing and transformation that has reshaped her vocation as well as changed her life for the better. The Cancer Whisperer chronicles Sophie's extraordinary relationship with cancer and the methods that she has used for dealing with fear, anger, denial and grief. The essence of 'cancer whispering' was born of Sophie's determination to take cancer off the battlefield and into the classroom. Instead of going to war with it, Sophie has chosen to listen to it, learn from it and choose her own response to it. Sophie offers a radically different way of relating to this disease both mentally and practically: she shares the research she has done, the treatments she has chosen, the diet she follows and the resources that she feels have made the biggest differences in the hope that they will help others cut through the mass of information out there. Sophie says: 'This book is for the cancer patient who wants to remain a dignified, empowered human being even when your doctors and diagnosis are scaring the hell out of you. It is also for the cancer patient who has a hunch that there is something for them to learn, gain or even be transformed by - if they just knew how to relate to this disease differently to the way most of society does. It is for the cancer patient, perhaps any patient.'

Book excerpt: If you have ever heard the words, “You have cancer” then you know what it is like to walk down a path you never wanted to travel. Such a journey can seem overwhelming, and there are seemingly never-ending twists and turns along the way, some of which may lead to experimental or new treatments. This book, however, is not about all that – rather, it focuses on the caregiver, or “the other patient.” The author, who has battled cancer himself, recalls the challenges of caring for his wife, who was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer. The couple’s children did not think their dad would deal with it well, as caregiving was not in his wheelhouse. He was the one who planned vacations, went to sporting events and enjoyed having fun, but suddenly he found himself in a new role ... and it was hard. The stories he highlights don’t only come from his own experiences, but also highlight what other patients and their caregivers at The Oasis of Hope Hospital have experienced. Whether you’re a patient, nurse, or caregiver, you’ll be inspired to overcome challenges and face the future – no matter what it brings – with the wisdom in The Other Patient.
