Book Synopsis An Introduction to Malawi by : Cecilia Lawrence
Download or read book An Introduction to Malawi written by Cecilia Lawrence and published by Intercontinental Books. This book was released on 2017-11-23 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work provides basic facts about Malawi. It is intended to serve as a brief introduction to this southeast African country and enable some people, who know nothing or very little about Malawi, to learn important facts which can help them learn more about the people and the history of one of the most fascinating countries on the African continent. Who are the people of Malawi? What are their ethnic identities? What is the country's history? How is the land? What are some of its prominent features? How is life in Malawi? What are some of the cultural aspects which give the country its own identity? Is there a national culture or simply cultures of different ethnic groups? What are some of the towns and cities of this predominantly agricultural country and one of the poorest in Africa? What is the country's future in a region with richer and more powerful neighbours? Is federation with them possible and a solution to the country's economic problems? Those are some of the questions I have attempted to answer in this book.
Book Synopsis A History of Nyasaland and Malawi Football by : Mario Antoine
Download or read book A History of Nyasaland and Malawi Football written by Mario Antoine and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2022-05-24 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mario Antoine explores the origin and development of football in Malawi, previously known as Nyasland, in this book. Little is known about the humble beginnings of Malawi football and how two separate associations for Europeans and Africans drove its development. With other countries such as South Africa, Southern Rhodesia, and Mauritius also having separate associations, this was not uncommon. The author highlights how the British, who travelled overseas to work and as missionaries, played a critical role in introducing football to Nyasland and other countries. After the British colony attained independence in 1964 and changed its name to Malawi, the sport continued to grow in popularity. As the years went by, apart from selected matches, games were played on a regular basis among Southern Region clubs, which formed the Indian Sport Club in 1920, followed by the Goans Club in 1928. Some of the families that pioneered the formation of the European association known as Nyasaland Football Association still grace the shores of this land today.

Book Synopsis Pan-Africanism Versus Partnership by : Brooks Marmon
Download or read book Pan-Africanism Versus Partnership written by Brooks Marmon and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-04-29 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book takes the transnational history of southern Africa’s liberation struggles in an innovative direction. It provides one of the first targeted studies of the manner in which the wider process of African decolonisation shaped the political struggle for control of Southern Rhodesia (colonial Zimbabwe). It offers an in-depth survey of the repercussions of pan-African developments on national-level political thought amidst one of the most seminal moments of the continent’s history. The book draws on over a year of fieldwork in southern Africa as well as archival collections in the USA and UK to explore the seismic re-alignments that occurred in the white settler dominated territory in southern Africa as self-determination became a widely accepted international principle virtually overnight. In particular, it focuses on the impact of decolonisation struggles and/or independence in Ghana, Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Malawi on Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle. In so doing, it also offers new context on the roots of contemporary repression in Zimbabwe.
