Book Synopsis Innovative Numerical Approaches for Multi-Field and Multi-Scale Problems by : Kerstin Weinberg
Download or read book Innovative Numerical Approaches for Multi-Field and Multi-Scale Problems written by Kerstin Weinberg and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-06-24 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides readers with a detailed insight into diverse and exciting recent developments in computational solid mechanics, documenting new perspectives and horizons. The topics addressed cover a wide range of current research, from computational materials modeling, including crystal plasticity, micro-structured materials, and biomaterials, to multi-scale simulations of multi-physics phenomena. Particular emphasis is placed on pioneering discretization methods for the solution of coupled non-linear problems at different length scales. The book, written by leading experts, reflects the remarkable advances that have been made in the field over the past decade and more, largely due to the development of a sound mathematical background and efficient computational strategies. The contents build upon the 2014 IUTAM symposium celebrating the 60th birthday of Professor Michael Ortiz, to whom this book is dedicated. His work has long been recognized as pioneering and is a continuing source of inspiration for many researchers. It is hoped that by providing a "taste" of the field of computational mechanics, the book will promote its popularity among the mechanics and physics communities.
Book Synopsis Mathematical Modeling and Numerical Simulation in Continuum Mechanics by : Ivo Babuska
Download or read book Mathematical Modeling and Numerical Simulation in Continuum Mechanics written by Ivo Babuska and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first international symposium on mathematical foundations of the finite element method was held at the University of Maryland in 1973. During the last three decades there has been great progress in the theory and practice of solving partial differential equations, and research has extended in various directions. Full-scale nonlinear problems have come within the range of nu merical simulation. The importance of mathematical modeling and analysis in science and engineering is steadily increasing. In addition, new possibili ties of analysing the reliability of computations have appeared. Many other developments have occurred: these are only the most noteworthy. This book is the record of the proceedings of the International Sympo sium on Mathematical Modeling and Numerical Simulation in Continuum Mechanics, held in Yamaguchi, Japan from 29 September to 3 October 2000. The topics covered by the symposium ranged from solids to fluids, and in cluded both mathematical and computational analysis of phenomena and algorithms. Twenty-one invited talks were delivered at the symposium. This volume includes almost all of them, and expresses aspects of the progress mentioned above. All the papers were individually refereed. We hope that this volume will be a stepping-stone for further developments in this field.

This book was released on 2020-04-03 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a liber amicorum to Professor Sergei Konstantinovich Godunov and gathers contributions by renowned scientists in honor of his 90th birthday. The contributions address those fields that Professor Godunov is most famous for: differential and difference equations, partial differential equations, equations of mathematical physics, mathematical modeling, difference schemes, advanced computational methods for hyperbolic equations, computational methods for linear algebra, and mathematical problems in continuum mechanics.
Book Synopsis Advances in Continuum Mechanics by : Otto Brüller
Download or read book Advances in Continuum Mechanics written by Otto Brüller and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 513 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recognized authors contributed to this collection of original papers from all fields of research in continuum mechanics. Special emphasis is given to time dependent and independent permanent deformations, damage and fracture. Part of the contributions is dedicated to current efforts in describing material behavior with regard to, e.g., anisotropy, thermal effects, softening, ductile and brittle fracture, porosity and granular structure. Another part deals with numerical aspects arising from the implementation of material laws in the calculations of forming processes, soil mechanics and structural mechanics. Applications of theory and numerical methods belong to the following areas: Comparison with experimental results from material testing, metal forming under thermal and dynamic conditions, failure by damage, fracture and localized deformation modes. The variety of treated topics provides a survery of the actual research in these fields; therefore, the book is addressed to those interested in special problems of continuum mechanics as well as to those interested in a general knowledge.
Book Synopsis Free Boundary Problems in Continuum Mechanics by : S.N. Antontsev
Download or read book Free Boundary Problems in Continuum Mechanics written by S.N. Antontsev and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2013-03-07 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Progress in different fields of mechanics, such as filtra tion theory, elastic-plastic problems, crystallization pro cesses, internal and surface waves, etc., is governed to a great extent by the advances in the study of free boundary problems for nonlinear partial differential equations. Free boundary problems form a scientific area which attracts attention of many specialists in mathematics and mechanics. Increasing interest in the field has given rise to the "International Conferences on Free Boundary Problems and Their Applications" which have convened, since the 1980s, in such countries as England, the United states, Italy, France and Germany. This book comprises the papers presented at the Interna tional Conference "Free Boundary Problems in Continuum Mechanics", organized by the Lavrentyev Institute of Hydrodynamics, Russian Academy of Sciences, July 15-19, 1991, Novosibirsk, Russia. The scientific committee consisted of: Co-chairmen: K.-H. Hoffmann, L.V. Ovsiannikov S. Antontsev (Russia) J. Ockendon (UK) M. Fremond (France) L. Ovsiannikov (Russia) A. Friedman (USA) S. Pokhozhaev (Russia) K.-H. Hoffmann (Germany) M. Primicerio (Italy) A. Khludnev (Russia) V. Pukhnachov (Russia) V. Monakhov (Russia) Yu. Shokin (Russia) V. Teshukov (Russia) Our thanks are due to the members of the Scientific Com mittee, all authors, and participants for contributing to the success of the Conference. We would like to express special appreciation to N. Makarenko, J. Mal'tseva and T. Savelieva, Lavrentyev Institute of Hydrodynamics, for their help in preparing this book for publication

Book Synopsis Smooth Particle Applied Mechanics: The State Of The Art by : William Graham Hoover
Download or read book Smooth Particle Applied Mechanics: The State Of The Art written by William Graham Hoover and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2006-11-02 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book takes readers through all the steps necessary for solving hard problems in continuum mechanics with smooth particle methods. Pedagogical problems clarify the generation of initial conditions, the treatment of boundary conditions, the integration of the equations of motion, and the analysis of the results. Particular attention is paid to the parallel computing necessary for large problems and to the graphic displays, including debugging software, required for the efficient completion of computational projects. The book is self-contained, with summaries of classical particle mechanics and continuum mechanics for both fluids and solids, computer languages, the stability of numerical methods, Lyapunov spectra, and message-passing parallel computing. The main difficulties faced by meshless particle methods are discussed and the means of overcoming them are illustrated with worked examples.
