This book was released on 2019 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This SAE Aerospace Information Report (AIR) has been written for individuals associated with ground level testing of turbofan and turbojet engines, and particularly for those who might be interested in investigating steady-state performance characteristics of a new test cell design or of proposed modifications to an existing test cell by means of numerical modeling and simulation. It is not the intent of this standard to provide specific test cell design recommendations, which are covered in the reference documentation. As a complement to AIR4827, this document presents best practices in the domain of numerical aerodynamic analysis tools for determining enclosed test cell aerodynamic performance. Correlated and compared to experimental systems, numerical tools represent an ideal way to reinforce the confidence in predicted performance while allowing for more cost effective and timely aerodynamic analysis.

This book was released on 2018-04-10 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with numerical simulations and computations of the turbulent flow around high-lift configurations commonly used in aircraft. It is devoted to the Computational Fluids Dynamics (CFD) method using full Navier-Stokes solvers typically used in the simulation of high-lift configuration. With the increase of computational resources in the aeronautical industry, the computation of complex flows such as the aerodynamics of high-lift configurations has become an active field not only in academic but also in industrial environments. The scope of the book includes applications and topics of interest related to the simulation of high-lift configurations such as: lift and drag prediction, unsteady aerodynamics, low Reynolds effects, high performance computing, turbulence modelling, flow feature visualization, among others. This book gives a description of the state-of-the-art of computational models for simulation of high-lift configurations. It also shows and discusses numerical results and validation of these computational models. Finally, this book is a good reference for graduate students and researchers interested in the field of simulation of high-lift configurations.

This book was released on 2013-02-11 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume reports results from the German research initiative MUNA (Management and Minimization of Errors and Uncertainties in Numerical Aerodynamics), which combined development activities of the German Aerospace Center (DLR), German universities and German aircraft industry. The main objective of this five year project was the development of methods and procedures aiming at reducing various types of uncertainties that are typical of numerical flow simulations. The activities were focused on methods for grid manipulation, techniques for increasing the simulation accuracy, sensors for turbulence modelling, methods for handling uncertainties of the geometry and grid deformation as well as stochastic methods for quantifying aleatoric uncertainties.

Book excerpt: One such facility, is an L-shaped indoor testing facility for these large, high-bypass turbofan engines. However, within a testing facility, the engine does not draw only the air into the facility but also induces a second flow which is a consequence of the interaction between the engine exhaust and the cell environment and augmentor/diffuser tube. Understanding the physics and flow conditions of this facility would be beneficial to the research and testing community.

Book Synopsis Simulation-driven Aerodynamic Design Using Variable-fidelity Models by : Leifur Leifsson
Download or read book Simulation-driven Aerodynamic Design Using Variable-fidelity Models written by Leifur Leifsson and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2015-01-09 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computer simulations is a fundamental tool of the design process in many engineering disciplines including aerospace engineering. However, although high-fidelity numerical models are accurate, they can be computationally expensive with evaluation time for a single design as long as hours, days or even weeks. Simulation-driven design using conventional optimization techniques may be therefore prohibitive. This book explores the alternative: performing computationally efficient design using surrogate-based optimization, where the high-fidelity model is replaced by its computationally cheap but still reasonably accurate representation: a surrogate. The emphasis is on physics-based surrogates. Application-wise, the focus is on aerodynamics and the methods and techniques described in the book are demonstrated using aerodynamic shape optimization cases. Applications in other engineering fields are also demonstrated.State-of-the-art techniques and a depth of coverage never published before make this a unique and essential book for all researchers working in aerospace and other engineering areas and dealing with optimization, computationally expensive design problems, and simulation-driven design.

Book Synopsis Atmospheric and Space Flight Dynamics by : Ashish Tewari
Download or read book Atmospheric and Space Flight Dynamics written by Ashish Tewari and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-11-15 with total page 567 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a unified presentation that does not discriminate between atmospheric and space flight. It demonstrates that the two disciplines have evolved from the same set of physical principles and introduces a broad range of critical concepts in an accessible, yet mathematically rigorous presentation. The book presents many MATLAB and Simulink-based numerical examples and real-world simulations. Replete with illustrations, end-of-chapter exercises, and selected solutions, the work is primarily useful as a textbook for advanced undergraduate and beginning graduate-level students.
