Download or read book Weighted Polynomial Approximation and Numerical Methods for Integral Equations written by Peter Junghanns and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-08-10 with total page 662 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book presents a combination of two topics: one coming from the theory of approximation of functions and integrals by interpolation and quadrature, respectively, and the other from the numerical analysis of operator equations, in particular, of integral and related equations. The text focusses on interpolation and quadrature processes for functions defined on bounded and unbounded intervals and having certain singularities at the endpoints of the interval, as well as on numerical methods for Fredholm integral equations of first and second kind with smooth and weakly singular kernel functions, linear and nonlinear Cauchy singular integral equations, and hypersingular integral equations. The book includes both classic and very recent results and will appeal to graduate students and researchers who want to learn about the approximation of functions and the numerical solution of operator equations, in particular integral equations.

Book excerpt: In 1979, I edited Volume 18 in this series: Solution Methods for Integral Equations: Theory and Applications. Since that time, there has been an explosive growth in all aspects of the numerical solution of integral equations. By my estimate over 2000 papers on this subject have been published in the last decade, and more than 60 books on theory and applications have appeared. In particular, as can be seen in many of the chapters in this book, integral equation techniques are playing an increas ingly important role in the solution of many scientific and engineering problems. For instance, the boundary element method discussed by Atkinson in Chapter 1 is becoming an equal partner with finite element and finite difference techniques for solving many types of partial differential equations. Obviously, in one volume it would be impossible to present a complete picture of what has taken place in this area during the past ten years. Consequently, we have chosen a number of subjects in which significant advances have been made that we feel have not been covered in depth in other books. For instance, ten years ago the theory of the numerical solution of Cauchy singular equations was in its infancy. Today, as shown by Golberg and Elliott in Chapters 5 and 6, the theory of polynomial approximations is essentially complete, although many details of practical implementation remain to be worked out.

Book Synopsis A Course on Integral Equations with Numerical Analysis by : Tofigh Allahviranloo
Download or read book A Course on Integral Equations with Numerical Analysis written by Tofigh Allahviranloo and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-10-30 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book suggests that the numerical analysis subjects’ matter are the important tools of the book topic, because numerical errors and methods have important roles in solving integral equations. Therefore, all needed topics including a brief description of interpolation are explained in the book. The integral equations have many applications in the engineering, medical, and economic sciences, so the present book contains new and useful materials about interval computations including interval interpolations that are going to be used in interval integral equations. The concepts of integral equations are going to be discussed in two directions, analytical concepts, and numerical solutions which both are necessary for these kinds of dynamic systems. The differences between this book with the others are a full discussion of error topics and also using interval interpolations concepts to obtain interval integral equations. All researchers and students in the field of mathematical, computer, and also engineering sciences can benefit the subjects of the book.

Book Synopsis Mathematical Analysis and Numerical Methods for Science and Technology by : Robert Dautray
Download or read book Mathematical Analysis and Numerical Methods for Science and Technology written by Robert Dautray and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 503 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The advent of high-speed computers has made it possible for the first time to calculate values from models accurately and rapidly. Researchers and engineers thus have a crucial means of using numerical results to modify and adapt arguments and experiments along the way. Every facet of technical and industrial activity has been affected by these developments. The objective of the present work is to compile the mathematical knowledge required by researchers in mechanics, physics, engineering, chemistry and other branches of application of mathematics for the theoretical and numerical resolution of physical models on computers. Since the publication in 1924 of the "Methoden der mathematischen Physik" by Courant and Hilbert, there has been no other comprehensive and up-to-date publication presenting the mathematical tools needed in applications of mathematics in directly implementable form.
Book Synopsis Linear Operator Equations: Approximation And Regularization by : M Thamban Nair
Download or read book Linear Operator Equations: Approximation And Regularization written by M Thamban Nair and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2009-05-05 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many problems in science and engineering have their mathematical formulation as an operator equation Tx=y, where T is a linear or nonlinear operator between certain function spaces. In practice, such equations are solved approximately using numerical methods, as their exact solution may not often be possible or may not be worth looking for due to physical constraints. In such situations, it is desirable to know how the so-called approximate solution approximates the exact solution, and what the error involved in such procedures would be.This book is concerned with the investigation of the above theoretical issues related to approximately solving linear operator equations. The main tools used for this purpose are basic results from functional analysis and some rudimentary ideas from numerical analysis. To make this book more accessible to readers, no in-depth knowledge on these disciplines is assumed for reading this book.

This book was released on 2010 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hierarchical matrices present an efficient way of treating dense matrices that arise in the context of integral equations, elliptic partial differential equations, and control theory. While a dense $n\times n$ matrix in standard representation requires $n^2$ units of storage, a hierarchical matrix can approximate the matrix in a compact representation requiring only $O(n k \log n)$ units of storage, where $k$ is a parameter controlling the accuracy. Hierarchical matrices have been successfully applied to approximate matrices arising in the context of boundary integral methods, to construct preconditioners for partial differential equations, to evaluate matrix functions, and to solve matrix equations used in control theory. $\mathcal{H}^2$-matrices offer a refinement of hierarchical matrices: Using a multilevel representation of submatrices, the efficiency can be significantly improved, particularly for large problems. This book gives an introduction to the basic concepts and presents a general framework that can be used to analyze the complexity and accuracy of $\mathcal{H}^2$-matrix techniques. Starting from basic ideas of numerical linear algebra and numerical analysis, the theory is developed in a straightforward and systematic way, accessible to advanced students and researchers in numerical mathematics and scientific computing. Special techniques are required only in isolated sections, e.g., for certain classes of model problems.

Download or read book Techniques of Functional Analysis for Differential and Integral Equations written by Paul Sacks and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2017-05-16 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Techniques of Functional Analysis for Differential and Integral Equations describes a variety of powerful and modern tools from mathematical analysis, for graduate study and further research in ordinary differential equations, integral equations and partial differential equations. Knowledge of these techniques is particularly useful as preparation for graduate courses and PhD research in differential equations and numerical analysis, and more specialized topics such as fluid dynamics and control theory. Striking a balance between mathematical depth and accessibility, proofs involving more technical aspects of measure and integration theory are avoided, but clear statements and precise alternative references are given . The work provides many examples and exercises drawn from the literature. Provides an introduction to mathematical techniques widely used in applied mathematics and needed for advanced research in ordinary and partial differential equations, integral equations, numerical analysis, fluid dynamics and other areas Establishes the advanced background needed for sophisticated literature review and research in differential equations and integral equations Suitable for use as a textbook for a two semester graduate level course for M.S. and Ph.D. students in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics
