Download or read book Nuclear Law written by Stephen Tromans and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2010-03-12 with total page 610 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a practical guide to the international, EC and UK law applying to the various uses of nuclear energy and radioactive substances. The first edition was produced in 1997, and given the renaissance of interest in nuclear power in the UK and worldwide, this new, updated and much expanded edition is timely. It will cover the law relating to the permitting and operation of nuclear power stations, the decommissioning and clean-up of former nuclear facilities, radiological protection, the management of radioactive waste and spent fuel, liability and insurance, and the security and transport of radioactive materials. Readers will find a clear framework explaining the development and application of nuclear law, and how domestic law is based on and influenced by international and European requirements and by its historical context. In the commercial context, the chapters dealing specifically with new build and with decommissioning will be vital reading.

This book was released on 2003 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Workshop on the Indemnification of Damage in the Event of a Nuclear Accident, organised by the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency in close so-operation with the French authorities, was held in Paris from 26 to 28 November 2001. this event, which was an integral part of the International Nuclear Emergency Exercise INEX 2000, attracted wide participation from national nuclear authorities, regulators, operators of nuclear installations, nuclear insurers and international organizations. The objective was to test the capacity of the existing nuclear liability and compensation mechanisms in the 29 countries represented at the workshop to manage the consequences of a nuclear emergency such as the accident simulated at the Gravelines nuclear power plant in the north of France in May 2001, and upon which the INEX 2000 Exercise was based. These proceedings contain a comparative analysis of legislative and regulatory provisions governing emergency response and nuclear third party liability, based upon country replies to a questionnaire, the full responses provided to that questionnaire, as well as the texts of presentations made by special quests from Germany and Japan describing the manner in which the public authorities in their respective countries responded to two nuclear accidents of a very different nature and scale.
Download or read book Nuclear Waste written by Peter Riley and published by Ashgate Publishing, Ltd.. This book was released on 2004 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nuclear waste is a by-product of the nuclear weapons programme, the nuclear electricity programme and, to a lesser extent, from the use of radioactive isotopes in medical and industrial processes. Using as a starting point the laws framed in the early years of the UK nuclear power programme to regulate the industry, this book compares approaches to nuclear waste management in a number of countries including the United States, France, Finland, and Korea. The book identifies the current treatment and proposed future of nuclear waste, looking at wider policies, stakeholder perceptions, international pressures and future energy scenarios. The key argument of the book is that, in the future, the regulation of nuclear waste must be treated as a primary objective of the law.
