This book was released on 2014-03-27 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Techniques based on numerical simulations have been applied to the analysis of the heat exchanger and the High Temperature Superconductor (HTS) module of HTS current leads. In the first case correlations have been derived for the meander flow geometry. In the second case steady state and transient thermal-electric models have been validated. Both techniques are used to design and optimize HTS current leads. The correlations were applied to a predictive analysis of the ITER HTS current leads.

Book Synopsis Final Report of the Committee on a Strategic Plan for U.S. Burning Plasma Research by : National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine
Download or read book Final Report of the Committee on a Strategic Plan for U.S. Burning Plasma Research written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2019-07-01 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fusion offers the prospect of virtually unlimited energy. The United States and many nations around the world have made enormous progress toward achieving fusion energy. With ITER scheduled to go online within a decade and demonstrate controlled fusion ten years later, now is the right time for the United States to develop plans to benefit from its investment in burning plasma research and take steps to develop fusion electricity for the nation's future energy needs. At the request of the Department of Energy, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine organized a committee to develop a strategic plan for U.S. fusion research. The final report's two main recommendations are: (1) The United States should remain an ITER partner as the most cost-effective way to gain experience with a burning plasma at the scale of a power plant. (2) The United States should start a national program of accompanying research and technology leading to the construction of a compact pilot plant that produces electricity from fusion at the lowest possible capital cost.

Book Synopsis Development of high-temperature superconductor cables for high direct current applications by : Preuß, Alan
Download or read book Development of high-temperature superconductor cables for high direct current applications written by Preuß, Alan and published by KIT Scientific Publishing. This book was released on 2021-01-14 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A design process for HTS DC cables was developed for high current applications. Based on the design process, a 35 kA HTS DC cable demonstrator was developed. The superconducting elements of the demonstrator were manufactured and tested individually at 77 K. Afterwards, the demonstrator cable was assembled and tested at 77 K. The assembled demonstrator successfully reached 35 kA at 77 K and self field conditions.
