Book Synopsis The Mulberry Genome by : Belaghihalli N. Gnanesh
Download or read book The Mulberry Genome written by Belaghihalli N. Gnanesh and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-06-16 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first comprehensive compilation of current knowledge on mulberry (Morus L.) covering botany, cytogenetics, biodiversity, genetics and breeding, tissue culture and genetic transformation, biotic and abiotic stresses, molecular mapping, QTL identification, whole genome sequencing and elucidation on functional genomics. As mulberry is one of the most economically important trees in Asian countries, it has attracted the attention of both academicians as well as industrialists. Being highly heterozygous due to long juvenile life coupled cross pollination among species, the genetics of this important crop species is yet to be unravelled. Nonetheless, the recent success of sequencing the genomes of haploid and diploid domesticated species has ushered in an era of intense molecular and genetic research to understand this crop well for its better utilization for mankind. In this book, efforts have been made to bring together key information on origin and distribution, taxonomy, morphological features, economic importance, abiotic stress responses, disease and pest resilience, current breeding strategies and their constraints, progress and prospects of gene mapping, elucidation of genes controlling metabolic and physiological pathways, and their utilization in crop improvement which are elaborated in about 250 pages over 13 chapters authored by globally leading experts on the species presented. This book is useful to the sericulture community in the world in general and students, teachers, and scientists in the academia for forage and fruit production, genetics, breeding, pathology, entomology, physiology, molecular genetics, in vitro culture and genetic engineering, and structural and functional genomics. This book is also useful to seed and biofuel industries.

Book Synopsis The Making of the Slavs by : Florin Curta
Download or read book The Making of the Slavs written by Florin Curta and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2001-07-12 with total page 494 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers an alternative approach to the problem of Slavic ethnicity in south-eastern Europe between c. 500 and c. 700, from the perspective of current anthropological theories. The conceptual emphasis here is on the relation between material culture and ethnicity. The author demonstrates that the history of the Sclavenes and the Antes begins only at around 500 AD. He also points to the significance of the archaeological evidence, which suggests that specific artefacts may have been used as identity markers. This evidence also indicates the role of local leaders in building group boundaries and in leading successful raids across the Danube. Because of these military and political developments, Byzantine authors began employing names such as Sclavines and Antes in order to make sense of the process of group identification that was taking place north of the Danube frontier. Slavic ethnicity is therefore shown to be a Byzantine invention.

Book Synopsis Limitations and Potentials for Biological Nitrogen Fixation in the Tropics by : J. Dobereiner
Download or read book Limitations and Potentials for Biological Nitrogen Fixation in the Tropics written by J. Dobereiner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 15th Latin American Symposium ''laS held in Brasilia (FD) on J1UY 18-22, 1977, on a topic of great interest for agriculture, especially in the tropics. Many new developments have taken place in the field of research in N2 fixation during the last few years. They "Tere made possible by the improved methods of measuring of nitrogenase activity, progress in genetic engineering fields and the increased interest in taking advantage of natural sources for biological nitrogen fixation. The approach used in this Symposium together with the one held four months earlier in Brookhaven on ;'Genetic Engineering for Nitrogen Fixation" gives an interesting picture of the present status of nitrogen fixation from two diverse approaches. This is my 20th year visiting Latin i'-J11.erica. I am most impressed with the tremendous development which has taken place during these years in Latin American science. I want to congrat ulate our Brazilian colleagues for arranging this excellent and timely symposium and its excellent organization. These symposia are a cooperative effort between our Latin colleagues and scientists allover the world. They are made possible by excellent local support and support by a number of international agencies and several groups in the United States. Earlier symposia in this series are listed on pp. viii-x. Book Synopsis Elsevier's Dictionary of Trees by : M.M. Grandtner
Download or read book Elsevier's Dictionary of Trees written by M.M. Grandtner and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2005-04-08 with total page 1531 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This dictionary will present all currently accepted generic, specific, sub-specific and variety names of trees, excluding fossil and more recently extinct taxa, hybrids and cultivars. Only the indigenous trees of a continent, those wild species that were natural elements of the spontaneous forest vegetation before the arrival of Europeans or other colonizers, are included. Each generic entry includes the family to which it is assigned, the synonyms of the Latin name, and the English, French, Spanish, trade and other names. For the English and French names the standard name is listed first, followed by other available names with, in parentheses, the countries where they are used. Where appropriate, names in additional languages are also included. Each infrageneric (species, subspecies, variety) entry includes, in addition, the distribution, height, type of foliage, ecological characteristics and main uses of the tree when available. In this volume only taxa indigenous on the North American continent are included, considered in a geographical, not in a political sense. This means from Alaska and Greenland to Panama, including Caribbean, but excluding Hawaii.
Book Synopsis Material-Tissue Interfacial Phenomena by : Paulette Spencer
Download or read book Material-Tissue Interfacial Phenomena written by Paulette Spencer and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2016-09-30 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Material-Tissue Interfacial Phenomena: Contributions from Dental and Craniofacial Reconstructions explores the material/tissue interfacial phenomena using dental and craniofacial reconstructions as a model system. As the mouth is a particularly caustic environment, the synthetic and/or bio-enabled materials used to repair damaged tissues and restore form, function, and esthetics to oral structures must resist a variety of physical, chemical, and mechanical challenges. These challenges are magnified at the interface between dissimilar structures such as the tooth/material interface. Interfacial reactions at the atomic, molecular, and nano-scales initiate the failure of materials used to repair, restore, and reconstruct dental and craniofacial tissues. Understanding the phenomena that lead to failure at the interface between dissimilar structures, such as synthetic materials and biologic tissues, is confounded by a variety of factors that are thoroughly discussed in this comprehensive book. Provides a specific focus on the oral environment Combines clinical views and basic science into a useful reference book Presents comprehensive coverage of material-interfacial phenomena within the oral environment
