This book was released on 2011-11-01 with total page 726 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

This book was released on 2010-12-31 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Grenadiers à Cheval of the Imperial Guard, were the shock troops of the guard, who were committed in battle as a final reserve at a crucial moment to turn the tide to victory for the French. Charging at Marengo where they were badly bloodied by the Austrians in their first battle, they again charged decisively at Austerlitz and Eylau, and bore the brunt of the fighting from 1813, when they were expanded to two regiments. Of the regiments of the Guard, the Grenadiers à Cheval has not been widely studied or been the subject of in-depth research. The book brings together much of what is known about the Grenadiers from the regiments archive held in France and contemporary iconography to chart in detail the regiments history and uniform in minute detail. Using primary archival material held in France, this work presents the first in-depth study on this well known but little researched regiment.

This book was released on 2023-01-31 with total page 837 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Napoleonic Wars saw almost two decades of brutal fighting. Fighting took place on an unprecedented scale, from the frozen wastelands of Russia to the rugged mountains of the Peninsula; from Egypt's Lower Nile to the bloody battlefield of New Orleans. Volume II of The Cambridge History of the Napoleonic Wars provides a comprehensive guide to the Napoleonic Wars and weaves together the four strands – military, naval, economic, and diplomatic - that intertwined to make up one of the greatest conflicts in history. Written by a team of the leading Napoleonic scholars, this volume provides an authoritative and comprehensive analysis of why the nations went to war, the challenges they faced and how the wars were funded and sustained. It sheds new light not only on the key battles and campaigns but also on questions of leadership, strategy, tactics, guerrilla warfare, recruitment, supply, and weaponry.

Book Synopsis Revolutionary Paris and the Market for Netherlandish Art by : Darius A. Spieth
Download or read book Revolutionary Paris and the Market for Netherlandish Art written by Darius A. Spieth and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2017-11-06 with total page 535 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seventeenth-century Dutch and Flemish paintings were aesthetic, intellectual, and economic touchstones in the Parisian art world of the Revolutionary era, but their importance within this framework, while frequently acknowledged, never attracted much subsequent attention. Darius A. Spieth’s inquiry into Revolutionary Paris and the Market for Netherlandish Art reveals the dominance of “Golden Age” pictures in the artistic discourse and sales transactions before, during, and after the French Revolution. A broadly based statistical investigation, undertaken as part of this study, shows that the upheaval reduced prices for Netherlandish paintings by about 55% compared to the Old Regime, and that it took until after the July Revolution of 1830 for art prices to return where they stood before 1789.
