Book Synopsis Nominalistic Systems by : Rolf A. Eberle
Download or read book Nominalistic Systems written by Rolf A. Eberle and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 1. 1. PROGRAM It will be our aim to reconstruct, with precision, certain views which have been traditionally associated with nominalism and to investigate problems arising from these views in the construction of interpreted formal systems. Several such systems are developed in accordance with the demand that the sentences of a system which is acceptable to a nominalist must not imply the existence of any entities other than individuals. Emphasis will be placed on the constructionist method of philosophical analysis. To follow this method is to introduce the central notions of the subject-matter to be investigated into a system governed by exact rules. For example, the constructionist method of investigating the properties of geometric figures may consist in formulating a system of postulates and definitions which, together with the apparatus of formal logic, generates all necessary truths concerning geometric figures. Similarly, a constructionist analysis of the notion of an individual may take the form of an axiomatic theory whose provable assertions are just those which seem essential to the role played by the concept of an individual in system atic contexts. Such axiomatic theories gain in interest if they are supple mented by precise semantical rules specifying the denotation of all terms and the truth conditions of all sentences of the theory.

Download or read book Reasoning, Necessity, and Logic written by Willis F. Overton and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2013-05-13 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A presentation of current work that systematically explores and articulates the nature, origin and development of reasoning, this volume's primary aim is to describe and examine contemporary theory and research findings on the topic of deductive reasoning. Many contributors believe concepts such as "structure," "competence," and "mental logic" are necessary features for a complete understanding of reasoning. As the book emanates from a Jean Piaget Symposium, his theory of intellectual development as the standard contemporary treatment of deductive reasoning is used as the context in which the contributors elaborate on their own perceptions.

Download or read book Sephirot written by Gordon Bonnet and published by LIttle Bustard Books. This book was released on 2023-01-25 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Duncan Kyle is an ordinary twenty-something whose simple life of sports, his job, and his girlfriend comes to a crashing end late one night when he falls through the floor of his apartment. He finds himself in Malkuth, a desolate, desiccated world where the only living beings are a sardonic Sphinx and her invisible caretakers, who in this frigid place are drawn to anything that is warm. He is told by the Sphinx that he will have to make his way through the ten worlds of the Sephirot before he will be able to get back home. In each world he visits, he has to rely on his wits again and again not only to find his way to the next portal, but simply to stay alive. Along the way he meets a wild huntress who is torn between making love to Duncan and killing him; an elderly woman who tries to convince him that he has been ill and dreamed the whole thing; a scarlet-robed judge who sentences him to be whipped and then executed for performing evil magic; a kind potter and his daughter who take him in and heal him of his injuries; and a timid, soft-spoken Methodist minister who helps him to survive in a world where hell breaks loose, literally, once the sun goes down. And in each one, he has to summon the strength to keep going—because if he falls for the snare each world represents, he'll never find his way home.
