This book was released on 2004 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the past 20 years micronutrients have assumed great public health importance and a considerable amount of research has lead to increasing knowledge of their physiological role. Because it is a rapidly developing field, the WHO and FAO convened an Expert Consultation to evaluate the current state of knowledge. It had three main tasks: to review the full scope of vitamin and minerals requirements; to draft and adopt a report which would provide recommended nutrient intakes for vitamins A, C, D, E, and K; the B vitamins; calcium; iron; magnesium; zinc; selenium; and iodine; to identify key issues for future research and make preliminary recommendations for the handbook. This report contains the outcome of the Consultation, combined with up-to-date evidence that has since become available.

On the other hand, there are fears and misconceptions. I have heard many doctors say "I have never been sued for a section I did, but I have been sued for the section I did not do. " The fear of not having performed a section in my opinion is real, although difficult to prove, and until the public can be educated that cesarean section delivery cannot eradicate fetal death and damage, this fear will remain and will be responsible for some unnecessary cesarean sections. Bruce Flamm and I hope this book will correct misconceptions that have been responsible for many unnecessary cesarean sections. I am still frequently asked the same old question: What is an ideal cesarean section rate? I still give an answer similar to the 1983 answer, perhaps somewhat modified.

Book Synopsis The Cambridge History of Ireland: Volume 3, 1730–1880 by : James Kelly
Download or read book The Cambridge History of Ireland: Volume 3, 1730–1880 written by James Kelly and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2018-02-28 with total page 878 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The eighteenth and nineteenth centuries was an era of continuity as well as change. Though properly portrayed as the era of 'Protestant Ascendancy' it embraces two phases - the eighteenth century when that ascendancy was at its peak; and the nineteenth century when the Protestant elite sustained a determined rear-guard defence in the face of the emergence of modern Catholic nationalism. Employing a chronology that is not bound by traditional datelines, this volume moves beyond the familiar political narrative to engage with the economy, society, population, emigration, religion, language, state formation, culture, art and architecture, and the Irish abroad. It provides new and original interpretations of a critical phase in the emergence of a modern Ireland that, while focused firmly on the island and its traditions, moves beyond the nationalist narrative of the twentieth century to provide a history of late early modern Ireland for the twenty-first century.

Book Synopsis Disability as Diversity by : Lisa M. Meeks
Download or read book Disability as Diversity written by Lisa M. Meeks and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-06-17 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Administrators and faculty in medical, nursing and health science programs are witnessing a substantial increase in the number of students with disabilities entering their programs. Concurrently, the benefits of diversity in healthcare are becoming increasingly apparent and important. Provider-patient concordance is a known mechanism for reducing health care disparities. By developing a workforce that mirrors the patient population, we can appropriately inform disability care, reducing health care disparities while embracing the tenets of the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA), namely equal opportunity, full participation, independent living, and economic self-sufficiency for qualified individuals with disabilities. One in five individuals will experience disability at some point in their lives, making this the largest minority in the US. A commitment to disability inclusion for qualified students should be a high-level goal of nursing, medical, and other health science programs. To support this goal, leaders in these areas must develop robust programs and an understanding of the best practices for inclusion. This first-of-its-kind title is designed to help deans, program directors, faculty, student affairs personnel and disability resource professionals thoughtfully plan for the growing population of health-care professionals with disabilities. The content helps stakeholders contextualize disability inclusion in health-care education as a function of social justice and a mechanism of reducing health care disparities for patients. It offers pragmatic advice, grounded in research, best practice, and case law to address the highly nuanced approach to determining and implementing accommodations in a high-stakes clinical environment. Disability as Diversity connects the moving parts necessary to ensure equal access for qualified students and provides a blueprint for crafting policy, proactive messaging, improving climate, adhering to accreditation standards, addressing licensing and board exams, responding to student failure, all while remaining compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and applicable Federal regulations. This text provides educators with the perspectives and skills they need to bring disability inclusion to the forefront of health education.

Book Synopsis Atheist Identities - Spaces and Social Contexts by : Lori G. Beaman
Download or read book Atheist Identities - Spaces and Social Contexts written by Lori G. Beaman and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-12-04 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The essays in this book not only examine the variety of atheist expression and experience in the Western context, they also explore how local, national and international settings may contribute to the shaping of atheist identities. By addressing identity at these different levels, the book explores how individuals construct their own atheist—or non-religious—identity, how they construct community and how identity factors into atheist interaction at the social or institutional levels. The book offers an interdisciplinary comparative approach to the analysis of issues relating to atheism, such as demography, community engagement, gender politics, stigmatism and legal action. It covers such themes as: secularization; the social context of atheism in various Western countries; the shifting of atheist identities based on different cultural and national contexts; the role of atheism in multicultural settings; how the framework of “reasonable accommodation” applies to atheism; interactions and relationships between atheism and religion and how atheism is represented for political and legal purposes. Featuring contributions by international scholars at the cutting edge of atheism studies, this volume offers unique insights into the relationship between atheism and identity. It will serve as a useful resource for academics, journalists, policy makers and general readers interested in secular and religious studies, identity construction and identity politics as well as atheism in general.
Book Synopsis Occupational Science by : Ruth Zemke
Download or read book Occupational Science written by Ruth Zemke and published by F A Davis Company. This book was released on 1996-01-01 with total page 466 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Occupational Science: The Evolving Discipline presents the most current and comprehensive information on the development of occupational science. This exciting resource offers stimulating ideas about occupation and its implications for health and occupational therapy practice. The papers in this book, most of which are from presentations at the Occupational Science Symposia, reflect an extensive range of perspectives. Presentations by Stephen Hawking, Jane Goodall, and Mary Catherine Bateson are included, as well as other invited and peer-reviewed presentations. In these papers, experienced scholars share their ideas, hypotheses, and preliminary research, tying together the theory behind the study of occupational science. Each section of the book begins with a detailed introduction in which Zemke and Clark describe the relationship of each paper to the study of occupational science. This unique text provides an understanding of occupation that will give therapists a heightened concern for those activities in which their patients invest their energies and time, a better understanding of how participation in occupation shapes self-identity, a way to identify the motivating factors for participation in occupation, and knowledge of how patients can enhance their life opportunities.
