Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1939, Agatha Christie wrote her most successful novel, one she said was the most difficult to write. It is the story of a madman who invited ten people to spend a holiday on an island off the Devon coast of England. They were lured by either a promise of employment or a chance to meet old friends. The madman’s real motive for the invitation was to have them murdered, which occurred. The title of Christie’s book was And Then There Were None. The author of The Blue of Portsmouth PD series decided to deviate from writing his own murder plot and instead made the decision to bring Christie’s victims from the island off the shore of England and have the murdered in New Hampshire. The Portsmouth PD detectives, led by Madison “Madi” March, were given the challenge to solve the murders. To give the book an authentic Agatha Christie flavor, Madi’s addled uncle, Henri Parrot, who believes he is the incarnation of Christie’s great detective, Hercule Poirot, is given a badge by Chief Bethany Van Dike and made an honorary sergeant. Surprisingly, Sgt. Henri Parrot has all the detective skills of Hercule Poirot and becomes the leading character of the story.

Download or read book Survived By No One? written by Karen Spicer-Wolven and published by Outskirts Press. This book was released on 2021-12-13 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Angelika's obituary had to be wrong...In the summer of 2014, Angelika Harder-Russo passed quietly from this earth. Little did Karen Spicer-Wolven know that the search for Angelika’s family would help her survive her own darkest days and learn the true value of human connection. This story began based solely on the 82 letters and over 300 photos that Karen retrieved from the trash in Angelika’s home. As she tried to piece together Angelika’s life story, Karen learned that there are no “facts”—simply documented accounts of events recorded through someone else’s lens, which is what Angelika’s photos and letters provided: her version of life in post-WWII Germany; her perspective of her own romance, family conflict, survival and the fear and excitement of leaving Germany to become an American military wife. Survived by No One? is told through the eyes of a brave young mother who endured war, poverty and incredible heartache. Angelika survived it all, but who survived her? This book takes the reader on Karen’s journey through Angelika’s letters, photos, documents and eventually a trip to Bavaria, Germany, to finally share Angelika’s story with her family. It turns out that Angelika Harder-Russo has many "survivors."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This powerful book tells the story of Anne Skorecki Levy, a Holocaust survivor who transformed the horrors of her childhood into a passionate mission to defeat the political menace of reputed neo-Nazi and Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke. The first book to connect the prewar and wartime experiences of Jewish survivors to the lives they subsequently made for themselves in the United States, Troubled Memory is also a dramatic testament to how the experiences of survivors as new Americans spurred their willingness to bear witness. Perhaps the only family to survive the liquidation of the Warsaw Ghetto as a group, the Skoreckis evaded deportation to Treblinka by posing as Aryans. The family eventually made their way to New Orleans, where they became part of a vibrant Jewish community. Lawrence Powell traces their dramatic odyssey and explores the events that eventually triggered Anne Skorecki Levy's brave decision to honor the suffering of the past by confronting the recurring specter of racist hatred.
