Download or read book Putting Skill to Work written by Nichola Lowe and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2021-03-16 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An argument for reimagining skill in a way that can extend economic opportunity to workers at the bottom of the labor market. America has a jobs problem--not enough well-paying jobs to go around and not enough clear pathways leading to them. Skill development is critical for addressing this employment crisis, but there are many unresolved questions about who has skill, how it is attained, and whose responsibility it is to build skills over time. In this book, Nichola Lowe tells the stories of pioneering workforce intermediaries--nonprofits, unions, community colleges--that harness this ambiguity around skill to extend economic opportunity to workers at the bottom of the labor market.

Book Synopsis Early Implications of Welfare Reform in the Southeast by : Margaret Robinson
Download or read book Early Implications of Welfare Reform in the Southeast written by Margaret Robinson and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2000 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Perhaps the most sweeping of changes in social welfare since the enactment of the Social Security Act, was realised in 1996 with the passage of the Personal Responsibility Work Opportunity and Reconciliation Act (PRWORA). PRWORA, signed into law by President Clinton amidst much national controversy, was designed to essentially transform social welfare in the United States through transferring the design, implementation and evaluation of the welfare system from the federal government to the states. This groundbreaking book highlights firstly how important the strong social welfare is to the country and secondly, how spirited the debate of the 1990s has been with regard to the nuances of social welfare policies and programmes.

Book Synopsis The 1996 Federal Welfare Reform in North Carolina by : Andrew W. Dobelstein
Download or read book The 1996 Federal Welfare Reform in North Carolina written by Andrew W. Dobelstein and published by Edwin Mellen Press. This book was released on 2002 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The implementation of welfare reform in North Carolina provided an opportunity to explore theories of welfare reform implementation and theories of bureaucratic power. While welfare reform implementation proceeded smoothly in many states, the unique political climate in North Carolina in 1996 forced a more transparent view of bureaucratic development and growing political independence. The political capacity of the bureaucracy to influence policy implementation contrary to legislative intent is often discussed but infrequently documented, and this work opens this subject for additional debate.
